Dragon Quest IX leads to increased DS sales in Japan

According to Media Create, the DSi sold 118,202 units last week, up from the previous week's 46,855. That actually seems like a pretty minor boost given that Dragon Quest sold over two million copies, and given that the red DSi launched alongside it. The DS Lite even managed to sell 10,161 units, presumably because DSis were sold out.

I had planned to report that the sky is usually blue, but sometimes red, and othertimes grey, but I didn't want to overshadow this news.

I concur. I've had enough of reading how millions of people -who are not me- are playing this game. :(

Wait a second...INCREASED Nintendo DS sales in...Japan? Is that even possible? Only one explanation for this, every person in Japan bought a SECOND Nintendo DS to play Dragon Quest 9
*end sarcasm*

Now maybe my morning coffee has yet to kick in but, if you presume that the DSi's were sold out wouldn't that explain the "minor" boost to sales? How can you have a major sales increase when there are no systems available for purchase? You seemed to have contradicted yourself with those statements, no?

This is big. Sony's gonna have to have something big to counter this. I can't shake the feeling that the PSP Go is going to be a failure. I don't think a port of LittleBigPlanet is going to save them.
The DS now has official-numbered entries of the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy franchises. PSP is getting the official Kingdom Hearts prequel and Parasite Eve 3 (both of which I'm looking forward to), along with the Final Fantasy agito XIII spin-off that looks suspiciously like FF8. I'm just afraid that the PSP will fail before those games get time to be translated to English.
