Here's the dilemma: We want to make fun of PETA's latest game, but the problem is that after clicking on pixelated breasts for 10 minutes, we feel that any entitlement to mock it has escaped us like gushing silicone from a popped implant.
The lesson in here somewhere is that PETA believes researching and testing breast cancer drugs on animals is "wrong." We're guessing the 192,370 women who'll be diagnosed with the disease this year would disagree, so perhaps it's best to enjoy this method without subscribing to the madness.

I think people say that because we are widely regarded as the most intellectual beings on the planet, being the only species to develop machines, space travel, manufacturing, art, etc. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean we should kill every other species to save ourselves, mind.
Another reason could because it's natural order to protect yourself and your species over another, and we're all on this team called "humans".
Obviously, I do feel that we should use animal testing if it means saving lives, but I justify this to myself because I think those hundreds of rats died to saves millions of humans.

you might want to look into how some of your animal friends destroy habitats and ecosystems (beavers come to mind) before throwing around that human beings are the only ones to destroy the planet line.
Humans are in the unique position of being the ONLY species able and willing to preserve and protect the environment.

@John- you make no sense. The pharmaceutical companies have stated that they would rather sell a cure then give one. I bet if your mom had breast cancer and you were a billionaire you would have the cure. Anything else you have to say is mute at this point.
@Ron - You have no idea what you are talking about. I agree that all animal abusers should be dead. Thats one of the traits that makes up either a serial killer or pedophile. So much like your baseless accusations, "I assume you are a pedophile and deserve to get the electric chair." Just to clarify something for you Ronny, I never said I was a member of PETA, you just type without thinking. Much like John, anything you have to say from this juncture is pointless.

First off jackass, the word is MOOT point, not Mute point.
Secondly, why shouldn't drug companies make a profit? You think the R&D for creating the cure was free? You are a parasite.
Thirdly, your stupid ass conspiracy theory is the kind of shit people wearing foil hats and raving about the end of the world talk about.
Fourth, the onus is on YOU to prove your theory, not on me to tell you how full of shit you are.
Fifth, here's a quick list of billionaires who have died of cancer in the last year, just to show what an incredible fucking jackass you are: Richard Pratt, James L. Sorenson, Jerry Zucker, so there goes your retarded theory.
And finally, it's called a reply button, learn to use it moron.

And I don't need any arguments after you said beavers can destroy the planet as much as humans. Not only that, but that humans are willing to preserve and protect the environment. Protect it agains whom? Aliens? The only kind of protect the Earth needs is agains humans. What most environmentalists are talking about is how can we MINIMIZE our inpact on the planet, but there's no way we can save it from ourselves. But it's ok, in the end of the day we'll be the ones losing the battle anyway and the Earth will still going, business as usual.

So if at the end of the day the earth will be fine anyway, then why not be wasteful and use any resources up that we can?
You defeat your own arguments, you are an idiot.
And pointing out your crackpot conspiracy theories for the bunk they are and thusly dubbing you jackass is purely an emotionless, logical response on my part.
I am not doing any more research for you because you simply want to argue and not research, plus your reading comprehension is a little off, I said beavers are destructive to ecosystems as an example of animals who are destructive and incapable of undoing harm caused.
Google the damage beaver dams do to the surrounding area.
Last I checked humans are the ones starting the sierra club, greenpeace etc, while animals are going about their ways of living their lives, uncaring of what they do to their environment.
Deer Also will strip the bark off of all trees if allowed to overpopulate, thus destroying forests, but unlike humans, they don't replant trees.
One day when you start to get hair on your pee pee, you will be able to follow an adult conversation, until that day I am no longer responding to you because frankly the wall in my bedroom is better able to follow the conversation.

If Earth will be fine anyway, why not be wasteful? For our own sake. The Earth will be ok, but if we continue doing the same stuff we've been doing, we are going to disappear sooner than later.
Sincerely, I don't care that much about that, I'm just concerned that in the meantime we continue to inflict so much pain and suffering to the other animals in the planet, that we treat as if they were our properties and as if they don't have any rights to live in this planet as much as we do.
It's ok, I can undertand how emotional people can get about this kind of stuff "boo hoo my mother died with cancer, I would kill all the animals in the planet so I could save her", well, here's the thing, I could't care less about your mother.
Now regarding Greenpeace and all this other organizations created by humans, who do you think they fight? Beavers? Deers? No! They fight other humans!! For sure other animals can bring unbalance to an ecosystem, but it's in a much much smaller scale than humans.
But anyway, this conversation is over, as it seems like it now turned into "dispassionatelly" call me a jackass and a impuber kid.

I will try to explain this to you again, like I would to a child because obviously either english is not your first language, or you are that dumb.
Animals also do things that destroy their ecosystems, some examples include rats, beaver, and deer.
Unlike animals, humans are uniquely equipped to assess damage done and then attempt to mitigate or repair it by planting trees, safeguarding andangered species etc.
you are the one saying that the earth would be better off without us, but the earth will also be fine once we are gone, and in the same breath say that we should preserve what we have for our sake.
you are using circular logic with no fact, not the hallmark of intelligent conversation.
It is really sad that you don't care about others, but I have a solution, kill yourself thus ending any damage your mere existence does to the earth.

PETA and Nazi-germany go hand in hand, hell, the Nazis invented animal rights.

Even now there are huge issues with neo-nazis getting togheter as "animal rights" groups, while in reality they are all about the eugenics. Comparing one against the other is not a big leap.

@John - No I meant mute like in the sense that you would shut up.
You are an idiot. Drug companies should not make a large profit like the ones they make now. It only hurts the poor and needy in getting treatment. Did you not listen when I said its cheaper to die, no you were probably too busy learning to read.
There is no conspiracy behind what I say look it up. Its not on me to prove anything. You are just some nerd who thinks he knows whats going on. You my friend don't know anything because you are a sheep. Stay in line boy. You have no idea what you are talking about.
You revert to name calling because everything you are saying is uneducated and lacking any reason.
No more replies from you. Stop it. Just let it go son.
Internet Role Number 23: The only reason people talk shit on the internet is because they feel safe. They are the ones who will not do it in public because they are afraid of getting beat up.
Thanks for playing John.

yeah see the button that says reply?

And no, you were using it as in a moot point, no one on planet earth says mute point except illiterate 8th graders trying to look smart on a message board.
Yes, a company should make a profit, your daddy doesn't work for free, why should a scientist? If the poor and needy need treatment, they should have to pay for it, just like I have to pay for everything from food to toilet paper, nothing is free in this world, ask mommy.
I am talking shit to you because you present a crackpot theory, expect everyone else to take your word for it like you are some kind of prophet, and then act condescending, like the 5th grader you are.
And I find it funny you say no more replies when you have thus far been unable to find the fucking reply button.

John: Just wanted to make the point (not that I agree with either of you) that profits are only called "profits" after a company's expenditures are covered and the remaining amount of money left over is in excess of what the company has spent. That would include research and development, marketing, labor and benefit costs for the employees, etc. No one is saying those people or companies should work for free.
Arketype clearly wrote he was against "large profits" and, in that regard, he's right. Drug companies are able to patent drugs and, essentially, leverage the monopoly they have on the market for that drug up to the point the patent expires. And it's not on the backs of the poor the drug companies make their windfall profits (after all, many of them aren't getting preventative care in the first place - how are they going to get the prescriptions for those meds?) but on the backs of those of us who pay more and more each year for our insurance.
Do a little research, John, and stop trying to defend a corrupt practice from a greedy industry when you clearly are unsure as to how the industry works.

You are unsure how the industry or any industry works if you think people go into business out of a sense of philanthropy.
When you tell people how much they can and can't make you no longer have an industry at all, you have an authoritarian regime, and we don't do things like that in America, unless you keep voting democrat.

Well now, this has been productive.
There are alternatives to animal testing, but currently I do not know of any which could fully replace animal testing, at least in medical research. Most of the alternatives being developed use either human or animal stem cells to grow tissues which mimic the structure and features of the particular organ or tissue a drug is supposed to target. It's not there yet, but one day it will be and it will replace a significant amount of animal research in testing new pharmaceuticals. Also the possibility of producing tissue sample assays which contain most if not all tissue types found in the target organism could effectively eliminate the majority of animal testing done. I seriously doubt it will ever be eliminated entirely, however. It's very difficult to tell how a particular drug will react in a biological system by limiting your testing to tissues isolated from the system as a whole. Someone raised computer simulations as a possibility, and it may, but the computing power necessary to accurately model a living organism is still many many years away and depends greatly on just how far the fields of cell biology and biochemistry have advanced in that time.
What I do feel is the most pointless and tragic waste of animal life is the use of animal testing for cosmetic purposes. Apparently I'm not alone on this as the EU is requiring the cessation of all animal testing for cosmetics by 2013. This is one area in which there are models that can be used in lieu of animal models, but animal models are still more economical.
And for the record, I'm a vegan and I don't really appreciate the assumptions expressed by so many of you that PETA somehow speaks for every vegetarian, vegan and animal rights activist on this planet. They don't. I'm also a former biochemist, so I feel I have some ability to intelligently talk about the subject.

PETA is pretty crazy. They align themselves with the ALF (Animal Liberation Front) that is basically a terrorist group that does many illegal activities, including arson, in research facilities and the like in the name of "save the animals".
Many people don't understand how dangerous the intentions of PETA are. "Save the Animals" is a good slogan to use at universities and such to have young people join the cause, but they do not know the whole story. They would prefer if we didn't even have animals as pets. They are against insulin because it is created with animal products, so that would rule out diabetes treatment. And the Head of PETA has diabetes and takes insulin. How hypocritical is that? Many other treatments would be rendered useless if we followed the word of PETA.
I understand the feelings people have about animal testing, but what would the alternative be? Human testing? and that does happen once the drugs pass animal testing. So if we didn't have this sort of research, we would literally be living in the dark ages still because no new medical procedures and cures would have been tested.
I am a huge animal lover myself, but I disagree a lot with the methods used by PETA. They act without really considering the consequences of what they are asking of the world.
But hey, "Save the animals" is catchy and feel good right?

Animal testing for cancer DOES NOT WORK.
Torturers have "cured" cancer for decaded on animals but when they turn to humans it doesn't work because humans ARE NOT rats/rabbits/monkeys.
If animal testing is so useful why does there have to be clinical trials? BECAUSE ANIMAL TESTING DOES NOT WORK.
But then you all don't care because if you don't see animals squeeling in agony after being tortured to death you can pretend it doesn't happen right?

I think it's fair to say we wouldn't even HAVE organizations like Peta if we hadn't killed a couple of Sabre tooth Tigers and Woolly Mammoth. The problem is, Peta can't tell when things are actual problems(I.E. excessive cruelty, endangered species) worthless fights(a fly only lives a single day: Killing any one fly is only infringing on hours of mating and feeding)and thing that are just being an asshole to our own species. Not being an asshole helps get people behind you.
