Official Valkyria Chronicles 2 site launches

Famitsu may have spilled the beans with regards to the Valkyria Chronicles 2 announcement, but Sega has now officially opened the game's website for business. There's not much there right now except for the first page in the developer's blog, though it contains a few screenshots from the game, one of which you can see above. It looks like the style of the original has been maintained, despite the lower-resolution PSP graphics.
The developer diary -- handily translated over at Andriasang -- notes that the game has been bought to the PSP "to expose the series to a greater variety of users," and is keen to state that "this is a true sequel." The game is set three years after the first game, with no sign of any of the characters from the original, though we'd be very surprised if one or two didn't make at least cameo appearances in the sequel.

sony boy @ Jul 17th 2009 9:48PM
welcome to the darkside, muwhahahhaha!!!
Kenofthedead @ Jul 17th 2009 9:37PM
Looks good, shame it's on the PSP where I can't play it.
Oh if only the PS3 could play PSP games.
sony boy @ Jul 17th 2009 9:48PM
and you have a patapon avatar?!???!?! but you don't have a psp?!?!?
PSN: Erdie (Now equipped with Wii!) @ Jul 17th 2009 9:49PM
...said the person sporting a Patapon avatar.
Evan @ Jul 17th 2009 10:19PM
There are several PSP games I would buy if I could play them on my PS3.
dgknight500 @ Jul 17th 2009 10:47PM
blame it on the PS3 version selling like crap
Kenofthedead @ Jul 18th 2009 10:02PM
Oh I had a PSP, but after close to a year with only three games I wanted to play (two of which were on PS2 and better for it), I traded it for a Wonderswan and have been far happier.
As for why I have a Patapon avatar. Well, I keep trying to change it to something else, but it never seems to go through on the site. After a few months of attempting a change, I gave up. Not that it matters, Patapon are a fun group even if you can't play their games.
j.howlett @ Jul 17th 2009 9:43PM
psp is getting a bunch of sequels to console games
Ashitaka @ Jul 17th 2009 9:54PM
I can only think of this and AC: Bloodlines. What other games am I missing here?
j.howlett @ Jul 17th 2009 9:59PM
metal gear, motorstorm, and LBP to name a few
Wiizer (Michael Pachter MUST DIE.. Professionally) @ Jul 17th 2009 10:00PM
Um... Tekken 6, MGS: Peacewalker, Monster Hunters, LBP on PSP, GRAN TURISMO!
What more could you WANT?
Ashitaka @ Jul 17th 2009 10:06PM
Damn, I can't believe I missed MGS, LBP and GT! and MGS is right on the right of j.howlett's comment, I need some sleep -_-'
Erik Stroud @ Jul 17th 2009 11:35PM
Yeah, but at least it's getting quality games. I can only play Disgaea, DJ Max, and Jeane D'Arc so much before I want new games.
Kdiggy @ Jul 18th 2009 9:49AM
... and Final Fantasy Dissidia, Persona, Final Fantasy XIII Agito, Parasite Eve, Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, etc, etc
Now is a great time to be a PSP owner.
charlie b. @ Jul 18th 2009 3:21PM
as someone who has been playing unhealthy amounts of Disgaea on PSP, i think that SRPGs are better suited to the portable format.
rather than being glued to your console while grinding for hours, you can step outside, do a few missions/chapters, put your system to sleep, and resume later.
that, and, you know, level griding in the bathroom.
BLee @ Jul 19th 2009 12:57AM
no one liked god of war or monster hunter???
midnightshade @ Jul 20th 2009 4:11AM
Resident Evil PSP , Dante's inferno, Disgaea 2 (with Mao and geoblocks from DIsagea 3 and multiplayer) coming in September, Persona 1 remake, Final Fantasy :Dissidia coming in Augest, Fianal Fantasy 13: Agito (companion game to the ps3 ff13 and ff13vs.. meaning its a full ff game), Monster Hunter Freedom unite (already out) , class of heroes, crimson gem saga (allready out), Soul Calibur 4, Assassin's creed Bloodlines, Tekken 6, Lbp, Gt-potable, Motorstorm Arctic edge, Parasite eve the 3rd birthday, Resistance Retribution, kingdom hearts birth by sleep, MGS Peace walker, pixel junk monsters deluxe, fat princess, Holy invasion of privacy badman, what did i do to deserve this!! (one of my favorite titles, been playing like a madman since it came out last week)!!! PSP has it all, and it complements the ps3 so well! I owned the psp before the ps3 and it made me want the console too. I love both.
While I would of loved a sequel to vc on my ps3, I really can't complain. It's going to my favorite portable so graphics and gameplay will not be cut (if it went to ds, that would be the case!) VC2 will be great having it on the psp for the go...it makes me happy as i love my psp. As long as it stays on Sony systems that's all i care about, if it came out on the failbox i would be pissed!!!!
NukeAssault @ Jul 17th 2009 9:47PM
Im excited and disappointed at the same time... You know since it on PSP. Maybe if it sells decent enough they will make another PS3 version. =D
Phil @ Jul 18th 2009 10:57AM
OR you could go get a PSP. There are tons of ways that the two systems interact with each-other. Much more tightly integrated then the DS and the Wii.
NukeAssault @ Jul 18th 2009 12:04PM
I have two PSP's... =|
Jacksons @ Jul 17th 2009 9:48PM
Finally! The support the PSP always deserved!
Deterrence @ Jul 17th 2009 9:53PM
The PS3 needs an addon that can let its users play PSP games like the GBA adapter for Gamecube, or let us download and play PSP games on the PS3!
ToadStoolPorridge @ Jul 17th 2009 10:01PM
This is a double-edged sword. On one hand, Sony could/would get more PSP game sales and people would want to buy the adapter. However, people who own a PS3 would be less inclined to buy a PSP unless the REALLY want to play the games on the go. I don't think they want to put the PSP system sales at risk
DangerMouse @ Jul 17th 2009 10:12PM
I'd always hoped they would make one, but the chances are even slimmer since they're phasing out the UMD. I hope future PSP's will have an accessory to allow it to be connected to the PS3 which would give the console complete control over it, from video to using the DS3 controller for it. I know they won't, but that would huge feature that would convince me to get another one.
leo @ Jul 17th 2009 10:35PM
Or you could just hook up your PSP 3000 to the tv.. and play it..
oh wait you didnt know you could do that? Thank you sony and your amazing advertising..
Phil @ Jul 18th 2009 10:59AM
@ leo:
ha-ha! I know... so few people realize that the PSP can hook up to the TV. It's really sad. Both the 2k and the 3k models can hook up to a TV.
ToadStoolPorridge @ Jul 17th 2009 9:53PM
Ever since I got my iPod Touch my PSP and DS have been gathering a lot of dust. Rock Band Unplugged and Patapon 2 are the only games making me clean it off every once in a while. My DS, well...He's just kind of chillin' in a corner...
Ashitaka @ Jul 17th 2009 10:02PM
I have an iPod Touch so... wth are you talking about?
1. No iPod games can actually compete with the PSP's and the DS's.
2. The battery while playing a game on the iPod lasts about 4 hours.
3. The iPod has no D-Pad, no buttons.
4. Your fingers are always blocking your view of the screen.
The handheld gaming you have been doing lately sure sounds great...
sony boy @ Jul 17th 2009 10:28PM
what do you play on the touch??are you a gamer that doesn't play deep games.?
ToadStoolPorridge @ Jul 17th 2009 10:29PM
Are you talking to me or Ashitaka? I'm guessing him?
arrness (PSN: chsowls) @ Jul 17th 2009 11:16PM
sony boy, you sound like a 5 year old
Michael @ Jul 17th 2009 9:58PM
it sure seems that Raita isnt involved in character design anymore but someone's copying his style, and oh boy valkyrur lolis with whips.
Deku2106 @ Jul 17th 2009 10:04PM
Raita's still doing the designs.
Michael @ Jul 18th 2009 2:07AM
at the very least it seems much more in line with the anime designs since there doesn't seem to be any of the watercolor-sketch style images yet
ToadStoolPorridge @ Jul 17th 2009 10:08PM
I get addicted to certain iPhone games and there are some games that make excellent use of the hardware (or lack thereof). Galcon is a fantastic game that I have drained countless online hours into. Baseball Sluggers recently got me hooked. Rolando is my Loco Roco fix when I don't carry around my PSP. (Loco Roco 2 is another game that has made me go back to my PSP). Star Defense is a fun little game. Flight Control is also pretty good. And besides, even though a majority of my handheld gaming is done on my iPod, I still don't spend that much time with handhelds. I have been picking up new PS3 games and have been spending time with those. When I come home after work I would much rather look at a big screen and use a controller rather than sit down and look at a 3 inch screen.
And you're right about #'s 2 and 3. The battery life is pretty horrible and the addition of a D-pad would be a big help.
One more thing, sorry, ha. I'm not expecting a $.99 game to compete with a $20 or $30 PSP game. I know I'm getting what I'm paying for: a small addicting time waster that I'll spend a few days with until I buy a different little game.
You're points can all be valid in some regards and I'm not trying to attack you, this is just how I look at my handheld gaming.
Sly @ Jul 18th 2009 12:07AM
have you tried any of these games?:
1. Zenonia
2. Zombieville USA
3. Knights Onrush
4. Peggle
5. iBomber
6. geoDefense
7. Amateur Surgeon
8. Hero of Sparta
9. Radio Flare
10. Fieldrunners
all of them are PERFECT. and i got a lot of them for only $.99. you should take a look at the ones you haven't heard of.
ToadStoolPorridge @ Jul 18th 2009 10:37AM
Is Zenonia really a good RPG? I actually own every other game you listed. The $.99 price points really tempt me and I end up buying them on sale. Peggle was the best $1 purchase of my life.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 18th 2009 11:33AM
Well I don't know. I see where YOU are coming from but let's take a look at the opposite idea.
iPhone is expensive as all hell and has a minimum $90 a month contract in my area and I can't even use it inside my own apartment on account of AT&T coverage being shit. I also don't really have a need for a portable MP3 player and even if I did, I much prefer Amazon's MP3 service to Apples. So spending much, much, much more (The Apple Decree) so I can enjoy a $.99 sense game is completely contridictory to me.
Meanwhile PSP is much cheap, requires no monthly fee, has a huge library and makes it easy to find what I want, and while the games ARE more expensive, they are also much more substantial in content.
But PSP vs iPhone comparisons are about as retarded as the 30+ fart machines on iPhone anyway. You can dig what you dig but PLEASE don't talk about the cheap price after paying your Apple Tax.
maskedrose @ Jul 17th 2009 11:30PM
I will probably buy this.. but jeeeeez does it look bad after playing it on ps3.. of course. Disappointing.
Perhaps if this does well they will bring it back to the big system? :)
arrness (PSN: chsowls) @ Jul 17th 2009 11:17PM
whats next, Uncharted?
WINterfang @ Jul 17th 2009 11:26PM
I'm glad for the PSP fans, jeez you guys had it so bad but things are looking up =D. ( I still like my DS more)

Didn't see this one coming. Never though we'd see a sequel, even if it is just a psp game.

This game needs to come to the US, and it should have multiplayer :)
Ashitaka @ Jul 18th 2009 10:27AM
It has :)
Old_Snake @ Jul 18th 2009 12:31AM
Loved the first game, somewhat on the bummed side that this will be a PSP title. I don't have one, and honestly don't have any foreseeable plan to get one. I might end up breaking down though, never know.
It is good that it at least got a sequel though
Maedhros @ Jul 18th 2009 12:39AM
I'll play this even before the first one, I can't buy a PS3 now... but I'll buy one latter...
I hope it doesn't too connected to the last game. =/
HDpurist @ Jul 18th 2009 12:46AM
would like to try the PS3 game but waiting for a price drop........
Old_Snake @ Jul 18th 2009 1:07AM
You can find the game now for $20-30 at most shops. Doubt it's going to get much cheaper then that honestly
