Play, Create, Share, Watch the first ModNation Racers trailer
These are three words that should be very familiar to the PlayStation audience. First unveiled at Sony's E3 press conference, ModNation Racers is a kart racing game that follows in the footsteps of LittleBigPlanet. Unlike Media Molecule's platformer, however, the creation process of ModNation Racers looks much easier to use, with a full racetrack able to be created in minutes -- not days, as some LBP levels.
Of course, a game isn't worth much if it isn't actually fun to play. Thankfully, the physics-based gameplay of ModNation Racers -- and its wacky power-ups -- look to provide just that. With an avatar as adorable as Sackboy, and some very convincing animation, it's safe to say ModNation is also very easy on the eyes. We'll be keeping a close watch on this one.

anyone know if this game will be retail or psn download?
MaliceMajorE15 @ Jul 17th 2009 4:24PM
retail
Just like LBP
cuteSAVAGE @ Jul 17th 2009 4:25PM
This E3 was quite baffling. Mod NationNation Racers and NSMB Wii are both retail games. Shadow Complex is DD.
InFaMoUs1- @ Jul 17th 2009 4:30PM
LBP was over 40 GB and I expect this game to be the same. Too much content to be a PSN title. I am looking forward to this game though.
WINterfang @ Jul 17th 2009 4:33PM
Who is the girl in your avatar iNf@mmOuS?
Kill a mans jiro @ Jul 17th 2009 4:41PM
Over 40GB? u got a 3kGB ps3? lol
Str84rumBk (PSN) @ Jul 17th 2009 4:53PM
@kill
shes talking about the blu-ray disc being that they hold up to 50gigs.

D_Average @ Jul 17th 2009 5:01PM
Huh, I could have sworn this was a PSN title. I really like the idea of the game, but its hard to picture it as a full retail game, especially if its $60.
Kill a mans jiro @ Jul 17th 2009 5:06PM
@ D_average
The game wont cost $60 dont worry.
Daniel @ Jul 17th 2009 5:06PM
The dev said on the PSblog that it will be a bluray release.
Sly @ Jul 17th 2009 5:19PM
you guys do know that infamous is a guy right? so you can all just put it back in your pants, nothing to see here. unless you're gay, in which case, go ahead.
WINterfang @ Jul 17th 2009 5:21PM
Thanks, I though she looked familiar.
8-bit.artist @ Jul 17th 2009 9:07PM
why the hell are people saying it better be a psn release. this will be LBP of kart racing and better than mario kart wii. "zomg its a kart racer, no way im paying $60 for that!"
Spartan @ Jul 17th 2009 4:20PM
This looks great.
I hope it plays as good as it looks.
Sly @ Jul 17th 2009 4:26PM
i want this game so bad. burnout paradise serves my "realistic" racer needs, but i need a good kart racer. that's why i'm interested in this game.
nickert0n @ Jul 17th 2009 4:57PM
Burnout Paradise is nowhere near realistic.
ryanpaulmcgowan @ Jul 17th 2009 5:00PM
@nickerton
He never said it was.
He said that Burnout satisfies the want for a realistic racer and all he wants now is a cart racer. He said this because most people classify games like Modnations and Burnout to be the same thing when they're not at all.
sirpilf @ Jul 17th 2009 5:07PM
realistic? haha you mean, arcade? i feel like racing comes in 3 main genres, sim/realistic (gran turismo, forza), arcade style (burnout, need for speed, wipeout), and kart racing.
then it gets into sub genres like off road sim or off road arcade like motorstorm hah.
Sly @ Jul 17th 2009 5:21PM
it's realistic enough besides the crashes. if you just go for a drive in paradise, no boost or anything, it's really realistic. realistic city, realistic day/night cycle, traffic. and i didn't say it was realistic like forza or gran turismo. i said "realistic" empasis on the quotation marks. burnout is one of those games that can be really arcade-y or kinda realistic.

Am I the only one who invisions somebody making finger quotes and speaking in an ironic tone of voice "whenever I see quotation marks around words" anymore?

I agree with you man and this game has me so pumped up. I was watching this trailer with my daughter on the PS3 last night and we were both like "WOW DID YOU SEE THAT??!?!?" ... only difference is she is 7 and I'm ... not.
The best way to describe this game is Little Big Planet meets Mario Kart.
I'm digging that Sony is going with the "Play, Create, Share" as a new genre.
Alive @ Jul 17th 2009 4:27PM
Haha, looks pretty awesome :) If i didn't know what it was i would of guessed Little Big Planter racing or something similar.
8-bit.artist @ Jul 17th 2009 9:09PM
Little Big Planter. CUSTOMIZE YOUR OWN GARDEN!
Captain Planet @ Jul 17th 2009 4:29PM
Looks as stupid as the Joy Ride for XBL.
WINterfang @ Jul 17th 2009 4:30PM
Joyride may be stupid but it's free, so I'll get that one even if it sucks.
Irwin @ Jul 17th 2009 4:30PM
AW MAN
why can't they have something like this for xbox, this looks like sooooooooooooo much fun
sony boy @ Jul 17th 2009 4:31PM
i wonder what's next. A fighting game? A FPS game??? A RPG GAME???I wonder how many of these Play, Create, and Share games they can make.
WINterfang @ Jul 17th 2009 4:34PM
Relax man, it's just the second game and I'm glad they get rid of the sackboy.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Jul 17th 2009 4:40PM
Sackboy is a LBP character, he hasn't been gotten rid of.
sirpilf @ Jul 17th 2009 5:07PM
a FPS in the style of battalion wars or battlefield hero's would be cool, but with more depth.
RPG would be awesome, just think of an MMO where all the instances (is that what they are called?) were made by other players. you could play someone elses level and get experience, but of course there would have to be some way to limit how much XP a player made level could give out, and what items they could give out.
OOOO im excited now. WoMN (world of modnation!) haha.
Ashitaka @ Jul 17th 2009 5:18PM
"Relax man, it's just the second game and I'm glad they get rid of the sackboy."
I can't relax man, this isn't just your second comment, so I'm not glad that we still haven't got rid of you.
WINterfang @ Jul 17th 2009 5:24PM
^ that didn't even make sense.
Ashitaka @ Jul 17th 2009 5:27PM
^ that didn't even make sense.
sony boy @ Jul 17th 2009 5:51PM
did i sound that excited??? I was just curious of the potential.
johnnynumber5 @ Jul 17th 2009 7:39PM
The possibilities for Play, Create & Share are ENDLESS.
Someone sounds upset they don't have these games on their consoles.
j.howlett @ Jul 17th 2009 4:32PM
i'm eagerly anticipating this. ii love kart racers
InFaMoUs1- @ Jul 17th 2009 4:33PM
I guarantee you this much that someone will make a race track in the shape of boobs and or penis the day this game launches.
Paul @ Jul 17th 2009 4:55PM
someone?!! more like a thousand someones!
playwhutyalike @ Jul 17th 2009 5:55PM
Must........race.......them......all.........

Looks bright, looks fun, looks addictive ^^ I'm there!
Kill a mans jiro @ Jul 17th 2009 4:43PM
Hope they bring a Sackboy DLC, would be cool
Viglin @ Jul 17th 2009 4:51PM
This is as awesome...as when first shown a few days ago on various other sites[Ps Blog, G4, Ps Store, Pulse, to name just a few].
Uncontrol @ Jul 17th 2009 5:00PM
good. go back to any of those sites
Viglin @ Jul 17th 2009 5:04PM
Point is, would have been useful to see this posted...yesterday. Ive noticed recently PsFanboy seems to be slipping on major stories of late.
Such as a major story[Fat Princess] just posted on the Ps Blog, which lve just contacted Fanboy about.
I dont want to see it revealed here tomorrow.
Jon D @ Jul 17th 2009 5:26PM
well, someone is at a conference in London right now so I'm sure that has something to do with it....maybe
skyzbig @ Jul 17th 2009 4:53PM
This has shades of Crash Bandicoot...which is good.
Vidikron @ Jul 17th 2009 4:59PM
You mean "courses"? Or is "court" a synonym for "racetrack" in some region with which I'm not familiar?
mike @ Jul 17th 2009 5:07PM
I know I'll probably get buried for this, but I'm actually surprised how amiable the reception to this game was. I mean, they're obviously just trying to ride the coattails of the hard-earned success of LBP by blatantly ripping off their character design, game modes, and marketing strategy. Making it a PS3 exclusive seems completely arbitrary until you realize they're probably just hoping Sony will throw wads of cash at them too. It's kind of sad, really.
The worst part of all this is that the game looks bad even on its own merits. Sure, it looks marginally better than the Xbox 360 kart racer, but that one is FREE.
