Readers pick best webcomic: With Great Power
Oh, sure. They look harmless enough when placed within the confines of your portable gaming device, but when viewed through the lens of reality, Pokémon possess a startling amount of destructive capability. This intriguing viewpoint was inspired by last week's Weekly Webcomic Wrapup winner: VG Cats' "With Great Power." Congrats! Now, perhaps you could enlighten us on the unknown, terrible powers of Digimon.
Second and third place went to xkcd's "Cutting Edge" and Digital Unrest's "Motion Plus," respectively. If you want to submit a comic for tomorrow's wrapup, make sure you leave a comment or send in a tip with a quickness!

Oh god, Digimon.
Please, don't ever mention Digimon, ever again.
Lest you provoke it into using unholy magicks.

Every country in the world got the Japanese intros translated but the American version you hear the same song for 3 seasons, what the hell? and frontier was an insult.
I admit I was a fan of the show, I personally liked the music but it was always a guilty pleasure for me.

I'm not to familiar with the series. I remember watching something about a evil monkey man that looked like a radio DJ, and something about a dinosaur T-rex with robot wings shooting giga missiles at said monkey man which led to an explosion. I don't know how it ended, but I'm certain everyone died.
Somewhere, there was a message about friendship, I'm sure.
Anyway, so there is a monster Train shown in that intro. Who in the hell would engineer a monster train? That monster is literally at the mercy of anyone who gets near the tracks. I'm sure it eats passengers as nourishment.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 18th 2009 1:45AM
I remember that episode. No the kid didn't die, he was send back home for a day with koromon, then they return to find out that 1 day in the real world is like 3 months or something in the digital world.
After that is all about the emblems,Myotismon and finding the eight chosen kid who happens to be Tai's sister.
[I swear I haven't seen the show for at least 8 years and I still remember it]
It wasn't a bad show and as far as anime goes it was good but it was extremely corny. It was really lame when shaman king actually ripped off the ending of Digimon.
PSN:Wild_Pegasus @ Jul 18th 2009 6:28AM
Ugh now you reminded me about Digimon, i must play Digimon World for PS1! Which i don't think i have anymore. :( PSN release please!
WINterfang @ Jul 18th 2009 4:03PM
I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeed Digimon Tamers.
Desert Eagle @ Jul 19th 2009 1:14AM
Hell yeah, Digimon Tamers was the best season of the four I have seen. It had this awesome grimdark atmosphere that kicks in just after the happy part and which brings a lot of nice stuff like Beelzemon and the D-Reaper. Oh, and Digimon die too, which adds more to the darkness of the series.
Digimon Adventure was cool. I still like it just for the nostalgia factor.
I only watched D. F. because of Ranamon. She was actually a pretty funny villain, and very underrated too.
Finally, Digimon Adventure 2 was the worst of all the seasons. They totally had to mess up the final part. Ugh.
I know there is also a fifth season. I just haven't seen it because I'm too lazy to look it up. One thing's for sure though, the Digimon anime was, and will always be better than the Pokemon anime, but the Pokemon games will be better than Digimon ones.
Saria the Cat @ Jul 17th 2009 11:36PM
*happy sigh* I love applying reality checks to fantasy worlds for which we take their logical fallacies for granted.
ArchiGamer [thephilosophyofgames.wordpress.com] @ Jul 17th 2009 11:40PM
I still find this kind of meh though; Pokemon jokes lose their kick now a days.
WINterfang @ Jul 18th 2009 4:19PM
Yet are still funnier than any Cake is a lie joke by a thousand miles.
Hydrophobicfish @ Jul 17th 2009 11:41PM
I'm a huge fan of VGCats, when Scott updates at least... but taking an approach to video game humour of "lol apply real world logic to in-game comedy" It's just too easy, too cheap of a laugh. :-\
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 17th 2009 11:50PM
Are quoting Yahtzee?
Well not really for example do you think a Godly creature is actually going to let you manipulate its power? It would rather incinerate you before letting you enslave it.
Leroy_Octopus @ Jul 18th 2009 12:02AM
I really liked the Brawl in the Family one. It was just so silly.
edes @ Jul 18th 2009 12:13AM
They're pokemon...
MowDownJoe @ Jul 18th 2009 12:53AM
The more recent games have kinda had the legendaries take the roles of gods rather than just mythical beasts. I mean, seriously... Arceus created the universe! That's a bit over the top!
Reader @ Jul 18th 2009 1:54AM
Wow... Pokemon sure has come a ways since I played it. What type of pokeball do you need to catch the motherfucking creator of the universe.
Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 1:57AM
Masterball. Obviously.
Sly @ Jul 18th 2009 2:19AM
yeah joe, that's what i was thinking. they're not really leaving themselves room for more legendaries.
the list of legendary attributes (some legendaries have the same):
fire, lightning, ice, water, time, space, earth/land, plants, dreams, nightmares, steel, DNA, wishes, sky, sea, knowledge, emotion, will, antimatter, and god.
Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 2:45AM
Seriously? I might pick up a copy now.
edes @ Jul 18th 2009 12:06PM
I do know how the franchise has been going, I've played the lastest games. You can catch the god of pokemon...
edes @ Jul 18th 2009 12:07PM
@ blank-mage: people are actually complaining for the ton of legendaries. You can only catch the god of pokemon by going to an event...
Mr Khan is over 9000 @ Jul 18th 2009 12:12PM
Arceus is event (or hack) only. This generation's Mew or Celebi
MowDownJoe @ Jul 18th 2009 1:29PM
Fun thing is that the event has you climb a literal Stairway to Heaven.
MNC Dover @ Jul 18th 2009 12:44AM
I voted for XKCD only because I too am also just now playing Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2. I'm so behind the times. :)
Here are the MNC offerings for the week:

Sly @ Jul 18th 2009 12:57AM
you're not alone. i bought the orange box during the $10 steam sale, and i still haven't gotten around to playing HL2 or finishing portal. and TF2 is pretty much impossible to play on my laptop since the integrated graphics make the game lag too much.
ArchiGamer [thephilosophyofgames.wordpress.com] @ Jul 18th 2009 1:00AM
Loved the second comic.
t_m @ Jul 18th 2009 3:58AM
I'm just about to buy bioshock.... playing on a 1 year lag is indeed cheap...
what is this cake i keep hearing about??
*notices avatar* er..
Saria the Cat @ Jul 18th 2009 3:17PM
I also need to finish HL2! And Fallout 3...and Mass Effect... ¬_¬
Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 1:01AM
Too bad Scott-who-makes-VGCats died.
...what?
Evan @ Jul 18th 2009 3:33AM
I really enjoyed the art in that VG Cats. Sometimes though it seems like Scott makes his comics overly long to justify the time in between them.
This is my entry for the week

R (XBL: Esoteric Lord) @ Jul 18th 2009 4:01AM
I find VG cats funny, but Scott doesnt update worth crap nowadays. Its not uncommon for him to go 3+ weeks without a single peep on his news post/new comic being posted.
reddynamis @ Jul 18th 2009 4:55AM
I'll be damned if this one doesn't win. It speaks for itself.

Elmhurst676 @ Jul 18th 2009 3:11PM
That's gotta be my favorite comic.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 18th 2009 12:27PM
That's one of the funnier PA strips, I think.... but it's a year and a half old. What's it gonna win?
Snowblind @ Jul 18th 2009 5:27AM
Who voted for this one? Old joke (that even VG Cats has done before!), unnecessary amount of pannels and there were much funnier comics last week :(
alienmastermind @ Jul 18th 2009 9:05AM
Don't forget that Dipswitch was gaming related this week! (Except Wednesday!)
Monday - Max Payne 3

Eh, VGcats was going to win anyway, but I just hope he comes with something a little more fresh the next time he does a comic (I'm hoping before September).
Anyway, here's the +1 Comic for the week:

You may want to click the link in the newspost since this is kind of a running gag with the comic.
