The PSP has a ton of terrific multiplayer games. However, many use local multiplayer, commonly referred to as Ad-Hoc. Games like Monster Hunter are ideal for online play, but don't natively feature internet support. However, in Japan, there's an easy workaround: Ad-Hoc Party, a downloadable app that allows PSP owners with PS3 systems to simulate Ad-Hoc connections through the PlayStation Network. Suddenly, players can go head-to-head in Dissidia, even if they're not in the same room.
We quizzed SCEA if Ad-Hoc Party was going to come to America a few months ago, and they told us it was something they were looking into. Siliconera has discovered a new trademark that suggests SCEA may be localizing the connectivity feature. This is good news -- especially because Valkyria Chronicles 2 will support Ad-Hoc multiplayer.

they should've used a a normal term that normal people know immediately. I have no idea what ad hoc means

Ask the next five people you meet what PSN, SATA, or heck even LCD stands for, you might be surprised at just how little the public knows 'basic' acronyms.

Yeah, they bloody well better.
I got Freedom Unite, and since its hard to find anyone whose around where I'm at in the game, I'm stuck doing the normal quests. Not that bad, mind you, but playing with friends and doing the online guild quests is a lot more fun.

Please release it here.
I just got a PSP and would love to play some of my games with people, especially since no one near my home has a PSP (once I go back to the college apartment I'll have one guy with a PSP near).

Wake me up when they pull their collective heads out of their butts and release a PC application that lets you use your PSN account to login and play with other people on the PSN without a PS3 ...... yeah I know there is a non sony PC client out there -that doesn't use the PSN- and I have mulled it over as I have also mulled over several games that don't sport infrastructure mode -which has been the "no sale" point for said games-..... and decided not to bother with either.
They fix this glaring lack of infrastructure with their pseudo infrastructure that doesn't require me to have a PS3 and they will have just significantly increased the list of PSP games I'm going to be buying in the immediate future.

It's called XLink Kai. You can find it here: http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/
I have both the Xlink Kai program/USB adapter, and the PS3 ad hoc party, and I must say the ad hoc party is way better. Xlink Kai lags a great deal for me, and some games can be a lot trickier to get working.

That's it! I'm getting me a PSP.
With all the games coming out this year there is no excuse for me not to own one.

About time... anyone that really wanted it has been using the Jp version anyway.
Dead silly that it's taken them so long.

I've been using the Japanese version for Monster Hunter. It's a really neat, simple, application. Since Ad-hoc parties are probably never going to catch on in the West, bringing the application to US and EU would be a great idea.

hey my ad-hoc party wont work anymore, i think it might be because i have switched to a wireless connection. please help.
Posted: Aug 13th 2009 8:18PM (Unverified) said
it uses the wireless connection to connect to your psp, so it must have a wired as well to connect to the internet. it cannot do both wirelessly, but you can connect more than one psp wirlessly to one ps3 and use adhoc.
