One and a half months after we got a chance to check out 2K's next open-world crime drama, Mafia II, the developer has released a video walkthrough of the segment we laid eyes on at E3. We were quite taken by the excellent voice acting and explosive action featured therein, but we're curious what you think!
Check out the video after the break, but be forewarned -- they bleeped out all the totally sweet cursing out for this particular demo. What kind of third person, open-world crime drama doesn't have profanity? That's just f---ing silly. Whoa, what the f--k? Where did those f---ing letters -- oh s--t! What the f--k!?

Why is there no blood? For a game that is trying to look realistic you would think that they would make the people die realistically...

Either it hasn't been added yet, or it was censored like in assassin's creed gameplay vids.

Wow, when did cursing started to be considered worse than violence? Sorry for those who think that way, but if you believe that saying 'fuck' or 'fucking' is worse than shooting a defenceless guy and watching his blood spill then you're a fucking retard.
There were so many awesome things in the demo, it's a shame that those bleeps ruined an otherwise perfect demo. I particularly liked the part in the elevator when they were calmly speaking and drinking in between two crossfire zones. And the way Vito was slowly walking towards his next victim when he picked up a shotgun.
I can't wait for this game, it's great how some games are aiming to achieve this cinematic feel to them. First Uncharted and now Mafia II make me a happy games/cinema lover.

I always think cursing in a video game is compensating for something... I mean, if you're good at conveying emotion in a script without riddling it with profanities, it shows... intelligence... couth?
I'm not sure what the right word is, but I don't mind cursing, just when it becomes the center of attention within the game's dialogue. I'm not too crazy about excessive violence, either.
In my head, these two things are considered "special effects". Once you've dropped the F bomb a dozen times in the first 30 minutes, the "special" in the effects wears down...

people who were concerned about the Red Menace, comic books corrupting their children, TV rotting their brain and swear words polluting their culture in the 50s probably WERENT IN THE FUCKING MAFIA

wiizer i think a good script writer would be one who sticks to what his characters would say. Do you really think mafia enforcers are all well educated, extensive vocabulary wielding eloquent gentlemen?

i didnt say you did, i said that saying profanities are a crutch for real emotional language is stupid when you have brutish unthinking killers, not poets

I guess since the profanity was real and the violence was not...

@ Wiizer
I'm not particularly fond of either.. But it just seems weird to censor cursing and leave killing a defenceless guy in the demo.
@ joeman
I don't quite understand what you're saying. The profanity is as virtual as the violence - it's in a videogame.

Mafia uses cursing and violence in a realistic manner, it would be stupid and distracting to leave it out. Godfather would have been a piece of garbage if it was rated PG. Some games may use cursing as toilet humor since they cant figure out how to be funny but I dont see what that has to do with this game.
Toilet humor isnt nearly as much of a problem as games and movies that have to censor themselves of cursing, violence, and especially nudity just so they dont get a rating that wont sell as well. Censorship is the worst thing you can do to things like movies and games.

Mafia's main inspiration, I'm sure, is the Godfather books and movies but as far as the games go this will blow the Godfather out of the water. Mafia just has so much more detail, character, and much much better voice acting IMO. So to answer your question, it is just you. But cool it anything you like buddy.

You should have noticed that the game is called Mafia II, meaning its the 2nd game, so there must have been a first game that came out a long time ago.

Sweet. The game looks good. I like the first Mafia game, and the story was excellent. The facial expressions look top notch in this game.

The graphics are simply amazing. Wow. Just wow. But it looks to have the same issue the first one had for me. The cars are too SLOW....it took him ages to get to the destination. Still this game was not on my list at all but it just got bumped up to a rent.

It's not the route, it's the pace of the cars...SLOW...I understand the cars are old but I felt like I was still in those times in GF 1 and 2 without the cars being super slow. It doesn't have to be THAT realistic.

Well it did in the first one, to me anyway. I just remember it taking a LONG time to get anywhere and if the cops were on you, forget it. I got frustrated with the first one early on because of that which is why I wasn't looking forward to this one, but it looks a little better, still the cars look too slow in this one nonetheless.

The original Mafia is still better than most of the games released this year, and the sequel looks like it will be a similar masterpiece of game design, at least atmospherically and gameplaywise.
I admire 2k Czech for not having produced a fast cheap sequel after the ciritcal success of the first game. They took their time and have updated the series to a new modern standard.
This series has the chance of earning a place in the hall of fame of computer (&video) games.

Wow, graphics are mind blowing. Looks like the gameplay is there to back it up too! The Godfather 2 just looks so weak in comparison.

WOW. this just shot up my list of must have's...from what they show - mind you it's obvious that this demo was geared to show off the visuals - it's about on par with GTA IV.
I was thinking about how amazing those snow streets would look if each vehicle actually left snow tire tracks behind them and they stayed within a certain limit (then regenerated obviously) it would look SOO real...but I'm sure that it would be quite a memory hog. The future is bright though when game this beautiful are coming out somewhat under the radar.
