Microsoft speaks out on Obama's Xbox remarks
President Obama hasn't exactly been known for his positive stance on kids playing tons of video games (even though he owns a Wii and ran campaign ads on Xbox Live, ahem). Recently in a speech given to the NAACP, he pointedly noted that parents should be "putting away the Xbox," as well as other crazy ideas -- like "reading to your children" and "helping them with their homework." What-ever, President Obama.
Microsoft has responded with backhanded diplomacy, dropping knowledge on the US President in a statement released to the AP that says, "We agree with President Obama that it's a time for families to work together so that kids use media in ways that are safe, healthy and balanced ... Xbox 360 is the only console gaming system that has a timer feature allowing parents to set time limits for their kids, as well as parent controls to enable parents to set limits on what their kids are playing and watching." At this time, it's still unclear whether Microsoft followed that up with, "Word to your mother!"

WINterfang,
Now knowing this, it explains all the responses I've ever read from you.
No offense, but your use of English is VERY abrasive. I'm now contributing this to it being your second language.

I HATE THIS COMMENT SYSTEM!
WE ARE ABOVE THIS JOYSTIQ, AND WE SHALL REVOLT IF YOU DO NOT CHANGE THIS ARCHAIC SYSTEM!!!
WINterfang @ Jul 18th 2009 10:14PM
Yeah! I'm ESL but I'm over here dude.

Just be glad that Joystiq doesn't hide non-3-hearted comments.
Debikul @ Jul 18th 2009 10:32PM
The Kotaku comment system went to shit. I hate it now. There are so many useless posts getting thrown up on the front page that contribute nothing to the nature of the post.
Don't go that route. Please.
WINterfang @ Jul 18th 2009 10:37PM
The Joystiq comment system is like Sonic games, sure they fuck up from time to time but when they work it can be a lot of fun.

@Wiizer
Just curious, what exactly do you want changed about this comment system? How many extra seconds would it take to just double-check that you clicked the "Reply" button on the correct message?
Wiizer (Michael Pachter MUST DIE.. Professionally) @ Jul 18th 2009 11:35PM
@ Phillip
You don't understand what happened. Look at some of the other misplaced comments before you start talking shit, okay?
Thanks, douchebag.
Wiizer (Michael Pachter MUST DIE.. Professionally) @ Jul 18th 2009 11:42PM
Phillip,
I'm feeling extra generous today, so I'll take the time to explain what happens with this comment system.
When multiple people post at the same time, the "thread" shifts places. So, I was responding to a comment that was posted at the same time as three others were.
Instead of my comment being placed on the third "thread", the comment system doesn't recognize the difference between the three comments and moves the comment as the new comments are added.
Would I like the ability to edit??? HELL YEAH, I WOULD! Gee, I don't think that's asking for too much, do you?

Kotaku also pisses me off because they can't handle any hate on casual gaming or the Wii.
Paul @ Jul 19th 2009 10:55AM
it bothers me that people are complaining about a recession and it's not just america, it's england and france and all the industrialized nations. oh poor them they can't pay their $1500 mortgages and they can't make the payments on the escalade and they can't afford health bills because they have heart disease and obesity problems because they have been living in extreme excess for their entire lives!
the non-industrialized world is probably thinking, "welcome to the club"
Muckrak3r @ Jul 19th 2009 11:54AM
This is a prime example of what all intelligent conservatives have been afraid of since before Obama won the election.
They are going to tax sodas, beer, (wouldn't be surprised to see video gaming taxes) and whatever else they feel like to modify the behavior of "free" citizens.
Petebot330 @ Jul 20th 2009 11:22AM
@Muckraker: What's an example of that? There is nothing in this post that comes close to suggesting that.
It seems like people are either complaining that he's doing nothing or he's turning us into communist russia. It can't be both.
MystileArmor @ Jul 18th 2009 10:06PM
I don't care how many downvotes I get But people should have figured out by now that Obama is just another politician that adjusts his agenda to whatever gets him votes and support.
MystileArmor @ Jul 18th 2009 10:08PM
I meant "I get, but people"
I don't want to offend anyone with the head shaped like an ass, just cause I made a typo.

No need to post this 2 times, English is not my first language but I can read.
MystileArmor @ Jul 18th 2009 10:15PM
"appearance" only goes so far. I'd rather have a president who makes a fuck up now and then but doesn't "appear" to be anything but who he really is.
When a country is in a recession, you don't need a charismatic president, you need someone to get you out of the fucking recession. Presidential elections here have been the equivalent of picking between getting kicked in the nuts or punched in the nose for the last couple of elections.
The last president was a goddamn coke snorting cowboy that got into politics cause his dad probably pulled a string somewhere, for crying out loud!
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 10:15PM
i cant imagine how people could have believed otherwise. What was different about "Change we can believe in" from any other campaign slogan from the past 50 years? I suppose it must be because he's black, which is shocking that people dont realize there are plenty of black politicians that are really just the same as their white counterparts. Oh well, i guess people will always believe what they want to

lol, we still have sour McCain supporters
I would imagine you would have called Palin an inspiration
MystileArmor @ Jul 18th 2009 10:36PM
I don't know if that was aimed towards me, but just because I don't like Obama doesn't automatically mean I like McCain.
Like I said, a kick in the nuts or a punch in your face? That's pretty much the same kind of choice as the past couple of elections, IMO.
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jul 18th 2009 10:41PM
@MystileArmor
That wasnt aim for you, but still dont you think the country would be worse with McCain, atleast Obama is trying to get things done, give him a year or two
lol, at people downvoting my 1st post
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jul 18th 2009 10:52PM
Personally, I find it highly unlikely that McCain would have spent (borrowed) more money in his first 6 months in office than every president (including Bush) COMBINED.
Sure, we probably wouldn't have pulled out of Baghdad, but even under Obama Guantanamo is still open, and he would have come out in much stronger support for the protesters in Iran much sooner, and you can bet damn straight that N Korea wouldn't be pulling the shit they have been for the last six months knowing that the US under McCain wouldn't bat an eye and airstriking their nuclear plants and ballistic missle silos.
Would the world hate us more. Probably. But I don't really care what the world thinks. The presidents job isn't to be popular on the world stage. His job is defense of the constitution and the American people. And I believe Obama so far is failing miserably at that duty.
MystileArmor @ Jul 18th 2009 10:53PM
I mean, I honestly don't know if the country would've been worse with McCain. They're all politicians, they say whatever they think you want to hear. Doesn't mean they'll do it. I don't think anyone should vote for a guy who picks Palin as a VP.
The only way you find out if a president was the right choice, is waiting for 5 years. Even then you sometimes can't tell. Right now the ripples of the gigantic FUBAR Bush managed to pull off has still not reached it's lowpoint, I think any president is going to have a hard time after that asshole.
I think both McCain and Obama were not right for the job. That's just my opinion though.
Markez @ Jul 18th 2009 11:03PM
"you can bet damn straight that N Korea wouldn't be pulling the shit they have been for the last six months knowing that the US under McCain wouldn't bat an eye and airstriking their nuclear plants and ballistic missle silos."
This isn't remotely accurate, or true at all. Not one iota. That is a gong show comment.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jul 18th 2009 11:28PM
How so, markez?
Didn't you notice that as soon as obama was sworn in, not a month later all the rogue states that bush was so hardline against started testing him and pushing to see how strong or weak the new US president would be?
And they found out he wouldn't do anything, and we end up with a N Korea doing ICBM tests in the direction of Japan (who we are legally responsible for protecting) and hawaii. New secret underground nuclear tests. Arms smuggling to their allies. Iran stepped up their rhetoric, and gasses and kills their own citizens during peaceful protests. The UN, as usual, does nothing against either regime (or nothing useful, anyway).
And still things are escalating. N Korea was emboldened by our lack of response. They know the UN can't do anything because its made up of nations unable or unwilling to act to avert an international crisis, beyond "sanctions".
You honestly believe these same events would have transpired had a hawkish candidate won the presidency? One who could speak softly, but also didn't mind waving his big stick? Has obama even let on that he has a stick? Or has he been all talk.
Hell, even prez Clinton knew the tactical and political advantage an airstrike on your enemies gave you. And how, exactly, does letting N Korea get away with all this make us, our allies, or the world a better or safer place?
Markez @ Jul 18th 2009 11:40PM
Sorry it's hard to take anyone suggesting that McCain would already be in there striking too seriously, it's lunacy not really worth debating.
Latin_Trident @ Jul 18th 2009 11:40PM
It would have been much better if we had Ron Paul. Everybody, next election, please vote for Ron Paul, a man with a mind!
Markez @ Jul 18th 2009 11:46PM
Sure, Johnny has said he thinks unilateral action would be a good response. However, to actually do so with the state the US is in currently would be beyond asinine and a remarkably stupid move. I like how when he talks about that he always then moves on to being sensible and talks about leveraging the Chinese as well as the Japanese.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jul 18th 2009 11:48PM
Once again: why? Plugging your ears and saying "Thats not true because I said so" doesn't defeat the statement or point made.
And I didn't say he'd be in there airstriking now. I said north korea wouldn't be so emboldened knowing we had a hawkish president. That they wouldn't have been crazy enough to do most of the shit they've been doing because the response from Washington for their earlier shinanigans would have been much more forceful than what the Obama administration has given them. Do you disagree? Do you actually think a republican president would have responded in the same way, and allowed the same sort of crap from N Korea as Obama has? Do you really believe that?
Markez @ Jul 18th 2009 11:53PM
We'll just have to agree to disagree if you think N Korea would be shaking in their boots and not doing this because scary John McCain would be wagging his finger at their crazed dictator who does whatever he wants anyway from DC.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jul 18th 2009 11:54PM
Clinton Unilaterally air striking Iraq during his term (during his scandals) wasn't lunacy. How is a well placed missle on a mostly impotent state brandishing nuclear weapons (to destroy their nuclear weapons capabilities, mind you) be "remakably assinine and incredibly stupid"?
You think china would back Nkorea (who causes them nothing but embarrassment) over the US, who practically gives them all their money? They might make a statement that unilaterally hitting NKorea is "wrong", while at the same time breathing a sigh of relief, along with the rest of the world, because the NKorea nuclear threat had been dealt with, at least for a while.
PR0F3TA @ Jul 19th 2009 12:10AM
Crono you are the meaning of Stupid American.... the thing is that americans are pretty damn cool and nothing like you
Its the crazy "lets bomb threats"," Bless america and no one else" and "fear and respect our country forcefully" that makes americans have a bad name. so I'd like to say FUCK YOU, McCain and his maverick retarded vice president nominee lost. GET OVER IT
the presidents job is not to bomb whatever country it sees as a threat because it does not respect what our fore fathers wrote...
fulluphigh @ Jul 19th 2009 12:29AM
Profeta, you are the very definition of a stupid human being. I don't think I need to elaborate more, because any not-stupid human being will see it, and debating with your type is equally a waste of time.
Regardless of whether or not I agree completely with Chrono, you're "response" is absolutely idiotic. And I'll happily lower myself to your level to let you know.
Longhorn of Myon [PSN: MariusElijah] @ Jul 19th 2009 12:27AM

Reader @ Jul 19th 2009 1:15AM
One of the biggest reasons I don't like Obama is because he's so likable. A likable politician is dangerous.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 19th 2009 1:23AM
I agree with Mystile, they're both idiots. McCain was old and out of touch who picked a dumb candidate just for flair to get some votes, and Obama is a sweet talking lair who convinced the nations ever so gullible america hating youth that he'd actually be different. Politicians are all the same, they're all filthy fucking liars, and they're all stupid idiots who tip toe around doing work because of stupid political and world leader etiquette and party fighting/infighting and making concessions and all that bullshit. Just look at New York, our senate just spent 3 weeks fucking up because one guy switched parties, so they cant pass laws for 3 weeks, even though we still have to pay for their useless sessions. Obama is just as bad as any other, if not worse. We are fucked in so many ways. I cant wait till the robot apocalypse, id rather be a Cyberman anyday
catfish24 @ Jul 19th 2009 1:29AM
I'm with Latin_Trident.
Vote Ron Paul!
JayFight @ Jul 19th 2009 1:53AM
@darkwayne i say we need to reelect bill clinton i mean sure he's a lying politician just like the rest of them but at least his skeletons are (mostly) out in the open he would be the one and only president that had nothing to hide since it's already been brought out btw i am working as hard as i can to make the robot apocalypse happen although you will not be a cyberman (although the idea of using bluetooth headsets to control the earths population is a good one) but i will most likely kill half of the human race while i rest control for myself just remember to stand up and tell me who you are and i'll let you be among the half that survive (mainly because i like your posts on here)
