Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition exclusive to HMV in UK, GameStop in Ireland

UK retailer HMV has secured an exclusive on the Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. (Y'know, the one with the night vision goggles.) The chain's online store confirms availability of the title on November 10 at a price of £149 ($243). It's noted that the edition will be in limited availability, although the limit of three to a customer is quite generous for a collector's item.
We've also received word from a retail source that GameStop will carry the set exclusively in Ireland, where it will sell for €149 ($211).
Did we mention it includes night vision goggles?

Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 3:08AM
When I get my goggles, you're the first person I kill.
MarkHawk @ Jul 18th 2009 3:17AM
But my Master Chief Helmet has so much trouble seeing in the dark...
d889 @ Jul 18th 2009 3:19AM

Uncontrol @ Jul 18th 2009 3:20AM

The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 3:23AM
clearly you meant to reply to blank mages post about jodie foster
Spartan @ Jul 18th 2009 4:48AM
I sure hope you'd buy this because of the NVG, and not because it has a metal case.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 2:07AM
you are the problem
mvp576 @ Jul 18th 2009 2:07AM
Umm wonder why its under the ps1 "CLASSICS"
But i'm just going to buy the hardened case at gamestop and just find the NVG for like 40 bucks or something.
SpikeDelight @ Jul 18th 2009 2:11AM
I'm drawing the line at this Prestige Edition, and I'm somebody who bought the Legendary Halo 3 and the Amazon Exclusive Gears of War 2 Lancer! I'm sticking to the Hardened one because I want the original game on Arcade, plus the box art for that one is sick!
Pete @ Jul 18th 2009 2:12AM
how does this make any sense when right now u can preorder it from amazon right now
Nathan @ Jul 18th 2009 2:45AM
The Prestige Edition? Where is it on Amazon.co.uk?
ifalldownstairs @ Jul 18th 2009 2:12AM
this is just idiotic. why would anyone spend and extra $100+ on something so worthless? you're just going to put the thing on your shelf and forget about it after a week, but you'll be playing the game for months. thats why i buy games, not fancy pieces of accompanying plastic.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 2:13AM
fancy pieces of plastic that let you see in the dark!
ifalldownstairs @ Jul 18th 2009 2:15AM
you're only saying that because you own a multinational conglomerate and can afford such things! i love the protection from criminals and all, but spreading the wealth might endear you to the people even more ;]
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 2:26AM
The Wayne Foundation, Thomas Wayne, and Martha Wayne Foundations and myself personally donate millions to charitable organizations throughout the world! While the Martha Wayne foundation is a patron of the arts, this is hardly covered by it.
Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 2:41AM
Not that you ever needed night vision, being the night yourself.
ugotamesij @ Jul 18th 2009 6:01AM
I sent this 'tip' into Joystiq yesterday. As I said in my email to them, £120 for the Prestige edition (Joystiq have it wrong in the post) is actually closer to US$175, as UK prices include 15% tax.
knightfresh @ Jul 18th 2009 1:50PM
maybe they didn't follow your 'tip' and found better information elsewhere, hmv are gonna hike the price because they're only showing they standard copy at £40 and that's gonna get raised to £55 sooner or later, if you preorder and pay for it now you'll get it for £120, but not for long.
Trep @ Jul 18th 2009 2:15AM
If only the NVG would allow me to see DSG everywhere :(
Ashitaka @ Jul 18th 2009 8:06AM
You have to let it go..
*pats on Trep's shoulder*
DinnyHoon @ Jul 19th 2009 8:12AM
Step 1: Purchase sunglasses
Step 2: Print off DSG
Step 3: Stick DSG to sunglasses, facing into you
Step 4: You now have DSG goggles, and DSG is everywhere!
Trep @ Jul 18th 2009 2:17AM
If only the night vision goggles would let me see DSG anywhere :(
Trep @ Jul 18th 2009 2:19AM
Curses, I cleared my cache to see if the first would show up, then I came back to the page twice and it didn't show up -_-
tl;dr version: Sorry 'bout the double post.
mr mobius @ Jul 18th 2009 9:57AM
If anyone relied on a tl;dr for 2 lines, they really need some help for their lazy ass to even scroll down the page.
Xanto @ Jul 18th 2009 2:18AM
Please tell me I'm being trolled.
biggrapp @ Jul 18th 2009 2:18AM
man, fuck prestige. i was gonna buy it but fuck it now. exclusive to europe? bullshit. i have the hardened version on preorder and i might even change that to the regular version now i'm so disappointed.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 2:21AM
im almost positive this just means in the UK, as in, HMV is the only store that will sell it in the UK and gamestop is the only place you can get it in ireland.
biggrapp @ Jul 18th 2009 2:29AM
so..... your point is?
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 2:33AM
so it's not exclusive to europe. How could you not understand that was my point?
Araskaz @ Jul 18th 2009 2:34AM
We will try to explain it to you one more time.
It is exclusive to HMV IN THE UK. And exclusive to Gamestop IN IRELAND!
You can still buy it in America, Canada, etc.
If you live in the UK! You have to buy it from HMV.
Oh, you live in Ireland? You have to buy it from Gamestop.
BUT IF YOU LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can buy it almost anywhere.
SpiderMike @ Jul 18th 2009 2:37AM
His point being you're a 'tard.
K1LLER HORNET @ Jul 18th 2009 3:27AM
"How could you not understand that was my point?"
You have to be a complete moron to:
1) not read the article,
2) & then post something completely incorrect.
The1stMJC @ Jul 18th 2009 2:52PM
you are an idiot sir
Malachi @ Jul 18th 2009 5:22PM
GameStop in the US is taking preorders on the PE now. The system is saying its going to be $149.99 and I'm assuming we're only taking reservations for a limited time.

For those of you who hate us at GameStop here's Amazon:

abelpc @ Jul 18th 2009 2:21AM
don't need NVG to play the game.. Just want the Game.
SpiderMike @ Jul 18th 2009 2:32AM
HMV has the item listed as "Deleted" now, with a line saying " Availability:
sorry this title is deleted".
So does that mean they have taken enough pre-orders or was the item pulled from stock???
Lennoko @ Jul 18th 2009 2:33AM
Hai, im 12, and what is this? I dont even.
Ballistic H @ Jul 18th 2009 2:37AM
Wonder how much they paid to exclusively have it at their chain stores.
amardilo2099 @ Jul 18th 2009 2:38AM
I just checked hmv.co.uk's site and it's showing up at £120 not £149 but it does say it's unavailable so it looks like I missed out :-(
Rob Bourne @ Jul 19th 2009 10:37AM
Yup, I even told Joystiq it was £119.99 when I tipped them /sigh
Oh and it's back up for preorder again for those that missed the first wave
Jon Doe. @ Jul 18th 2009 2:38AM
Any NVG that is priced at $243.....lets say $183....is going to be anything other then complete ****. So the point would be????? Now if they were bundling a $12,000 set in for $243...yah let me at the mofo. As it stands want the game. You can keep the goggles that are probably just an altered webcam with IR LEDs on it.

Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 2:40AM
No, Lennoko, you included punctuation and capitalization.
Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 2:44AM
If I had night vision goggles, I'd probably remove all of my light bulbs just to give myself reason to use them. And freak the hell out of guests. Particularly Jodie Foster. That would be awesome.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 2:47AM
i dont get what that's a reference to. Panic room?
Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 3:02AM
Silence of the Lambs. Buffalo Bill? No? Dammit. I feel old.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 18th 2009 3:08AM
oh yeah, i guess the whole "penis between legs pretends to be moth" thing stuck in my head more than night vision goggles.
Blank-Mage @ Jul 18th 2009 3:10AM
Funny, I think I repressed that one.
