Weekly Webcomic Wrapup can see in the dark

We've got a serious question for those of you not serving in the armed forces, police forces, private security forces -- any kind of force you can think of: Why the heck would you need the night vision goggles that'll be bundled with Modern Warfare 2's Prestige Edition? Sure, they look really neat, but what possible application could you have for them? To get the edge during your weekly laser tag sessions? To decorate your similarly unused Master Chief helmet? To better stalk Nathan Fillion in low-light conditions? Err -- not that we'd actually do that, or anything.

As we suffer through this awkward moment together, check out our seven favorite comics from the past week which we've listed below. ... that wasn't funny. I'd rather read Castle Vidicons (I cannot read that comic because of the colors) than that shitty MS paint nightmare.

The only one I could identify was Jack Shit.

This is the 1st time I've ever really enjoyed Castle Vid, but my vote goes to Extra Life this week. I enjoyed the nonsensical rambling in the last panel.

Still gotta raise my hand and ask for a 'none of the above' option for the future so I don't have to vote for one if I don't want, but can still see the results coming in prior to the post announcing the winner.

I thought Extra Life was in rather poor taste...

Ahhhhhhh, I think I see what you mean. The way I viewed it, was as the last panel being the Mario-Marathon guys being burned out after playing all through the Mario games. Whereas I'm guess you thought they were the 'special' kids they were trying to raise money for?

I'd be shocked if that's the direction the author was going, but who knows...

No, I interpreted the same way you did, but the punchline really seemed like 'LOOK AT THE CRAZY, DISGUSTING NERDS!' I dunno. Just seems to be a joke at the expense of the guys raising money for charity, which is of course Not Cool.

I wrote the author, Scott Johnson, to ask whom the last panel was depicting and got this response

"Should mention the guys knew about the comic and read it out loud during the marathon. They love it. There is no controversy. "

My grandmother died while doing a marathon run to raise money for charity. Not cool, not funny, not a good comic.

yeah, I get that and do that in WarHawk--although I'm assuming it's a reference to Battlefield 1943...

Penny Arcade nailed it. I can't count how many times that's happened in Warhawk and Battlefield games.

I don't really get this Castle Vidcons, but it has the phrase "By Tretton!" in it, and that's all it needs.

The only one that was funny was Brawl in the Family, everything else seemed to use their punchlines to kill their own potential.

I havent laughed at a webcomic like I did BItF in a long long time

No MNC love this week? *sniff* Griffin must hate us or something. How will the masses ever learn of the sick twisted mind of Science Papa if no one reads or comic? How will we protect the future?

Of course, adding our comic would have meant bumping another, so I can understand his dilemma. I'm glad I don't have to make these decisions every week.

And I voted for PA, not because I've experienced the scenario, but because I can already imagine it in my head based off my prior XBL experience. Sad.

My sister gets so mad when what happened in PA this week happens to her in Warhawk.

I was just thinking to myself the other day: "I wonder if BF1943 is filled with the same retards that swipe the planes only to immediately crash them that BF1942 was plagued with."

Then I saw the strip and just lost it.

Gorram Covies didn't strike me as funny, but I'm a Mal fan myself and enjoyed the setup. I particularly liked the inclusion of the "Drive - Season 0.5" DVD boxed set in panel 2. Hee. What a horrid show that was, except for Fillion and the Firebird. (That sounds like a band.)

Had to vote for BitF just on the merits of said comic's second part, which was fantastic. It helps that I just got a DS and am experiencing the wonders of the Ace Attorney series for the first time.

PA also gets a nod because it's just so damn true. I remember that happening all the time back in the Battlefield heyday and am totally not surprised that it's still happening in BF1943.

Hooray?

Castle Vidcons made me smile, or my face contorted into a shape that somewhat resembled a smile. I'm not quite sure.
