Pretty much the only racer that Japan really plays by the bunch is Gran Turismo. I can't remember seeing a different racer in their top sales list.

So Mario Kart Wii doesn't count as a racer? Seriously? That's some stuck up 'core gamer' self righteous crap right there.

Just out of curiousity, what is my avatar at the minute. After half an hour, it should have changed, but this is Joystiq (love everything about this site except the comment system sometimes feels broken).

It's supposed to be Issun from Okami. Now I'm seeing the Zelda avatar that I had back a year ago. Thanks Joystiq.

Every heard of Ridge Racer?

Lets face it, the western market eats up Shooters because WE made that genre. The eastern market loves their RPG's because THEY made that genre. Its part of our culture. Name the top 5 shooting franchises: Call of Duty1/2/4/MW: California based. Halo: California Based. Doom/Quake/Wolfenstine:Texas based. all the raimbow 6 and ghost recon games are out of Canada. do you see my point? look at the best RPGs of all time. FF7, DQ games, Crono Trigger, are all out of japan. monster hunter is close to an RPG. maybe not so much story driven but you level shit up and collect stuff. Sure we have Bethesda but they do not understand that what drives the Japanese to play RPGs and if they do know that its a linear story, they just dont care because us westerners love the big open worlds that we feel like we can do what ever the fuck we want. GTA, Elder scrolls, far cry, saints row, racing games.

You know, people who throw fits about JRPGs sucking, or having little innovation, etc... They always confuse me. I don`t know how these people think - Because for me, gaming has always been about enjoying yourself and playing what you enjoy. I had no idea I was supposed to require the utter cutting edge in innovation in order to be a "real" gamer.
I mean, if you have fun and enjoy the game - what is the problem? If someone enjoys an RPG over an FPS - what is the problem? It`s not like they`re going to make you play it. That would sort of defeat the whole point of gaming - you know, the "enjoy it" part.

Maybe these people just take everything to the edges of innovation in their lives. (Vanilla ice cream? That`s not real ice cream!! People have been eating that for YEARS. I`ll take the non-frozen, puffed, whipped essence of squid ice cream! Because it`s the *cutting edge* of dessert technology!)

But hey, as long as they leave me alone to eat my vanilla, I don`t really care. Unfortunately, they have to come around and whine about everyone not jumping to go for the most innovation.

Sorry but to most normal people playing/doing the same thing for years gets old.

I recall the wonder weeks when the DS pushed those kind of numbers, week after week, all on its own.

I am surprised by how far the PS3 has fallen, though. I assumed after FFXIII Demo that the PS3 would settle at a somewhat higher level, but it seems to be settling back to the lower levels of the past.

a FF DEMO at that. plus, the price is doing the system no favors anywhere. guess we'll see what the actual FFXIII game does in a few months.

Sega's racers were always in the top of the sales charts, and their arcade racers always dominated. They just don't do racers anymore (Sega Rally Revo doesn't count)

You can walk in Halo? I thought jumping was the only functional way of moving about... This will change the way I play Halo all together. Walking, Brilliant.
