We've got another week until Wii Sports Resort hits retailer shelves, but as per the recently released June NPD numbers, we already know that the Wii's MotionPlus has moved nearly half a million units. Ars Technica dug up the numbers of individual units sold for the peripheral attachment (169,000) as well as the numbers for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 sold w/ MotionPlus (205,000) and found that, a full three weeks before the July 28th release of Wii Sports Resort, the peripheral add-on is already in 374,000 consumers' homes.
We all know the old adage "Good software moves hardware," but in Nintendo's case, apparently "barely any software" is enough.

Perfectly explicable as early adopters, despite the fact that the software that's out there is supposed to be good to great (great being Tiger Woods), i think you could have seen similar numbers just for the sake of people who want to have it.
Kinda like the DSi's earliest numbers.

Yes, one of my currently 4 interchanging avatars is from Megas XLR.
I call him Avatar 1, aka Jamie, taken from the famous scene of "monkey thing? monkey thing! Blast her, Coop!", uploaded sometime back in October, and still stuck in there.
Avatar 2 is T-bone, uploaded last December. Avatar 3 is Sogeking, uploaded in April, and Avatar 4 is Nappa (from the over 9000 meme scene), uploaded this past Wednesday
At this point, i wonder how many avatars i can cram in there before the system just gives up entirely

Weird, I must be one of the lucky ones. When I switched from Naked Peach to Mr. Lif, it stayed that way.

I see NAPPA! Hilarious. +1
Its too bad the cartoon messed up the translation, it's meant to be "OVER 8000". Since then it's become a huge internet-culture saying all over a translation fuck-up. I laugh EVERY SINGLE TIME i see the 'over 9000' saying just because of that fact.

Get you facts straight. There were 3 games ready for the launch of Wii Motion Plus. Also it only cost $19.99. If you bought it at Gamestop that's your bad you got screwed.

Our family is so behind... we're still waiting for Punch-Out, so I guess that WM+ isn't coming to us anytime soon.

I bought WM+, and i have little interest in wii sports resort. I know that many future games will rely on it to be played, so i figured i might as well get it over with and buy one.

Go figure these people would bash the Wii. When the games on 360 and PS3 are not original anymore. You mostly have all FPS on them and if you played one you played them all. And other games are just copies take Prototype for 360 and PS3, this game is a clone of Hulk Ultimate Detruction from the original Xbox. Serious this game is EXACTLY the same and every one is dumb enough to pay 60.00 for it.
Way to go for the con on 360 and PS3.
Play and find out please

Most Wii games stand out from other games on the system, by that I mean there is a lot of variety and very little copycat games. (the conduit, house of the dead, Mario, metroid, donkey kong, etc.) Xbox 360 and Ps3 games all kind of blend in with each other and stand out. PS360 games are good games, but it's mainly just first person shooters and sports games.

Dont you dare say that a shooter like PDZ comes close to the greatness of CoD4 and Halo 3

@mv209:
Serious? The Conduit is an FPS, Overkill is an on-rails FPS, and Mario, DK and Metroid are experiences that can be had on any other variety of Nintendo platforms.
PS3/360 may consist of a crapton of FPSes, but the popular games on wii are rehashes of old titles in most cases - so while there is VARIETY, there isn't anything innovative, except for maybe titles like NMH and Madworld.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts would like a word with you. Then Mirror's Edge. Then Assassin's Creed. Gears of War is waiting too. Plus Ghostbusters. And Batman Arkham Asylum. Don't forget Dead Rising.

Can't see haters using that as ammunition anytime soon....
Only 7 days to go until I get my own MotionPlus to see if it really will enhance the experience. Can't wait.

This is great news! Miyamoto said that if motion plus sells well, the new Zelda will most likely use it, hopefully we can now get the realistic arrow and sword controls!
Posted: Jul 19th 2009 3:30PM Mr Khan said
while realistic sword controls would be advantageous to a gameplay perspective, truly realistic arrow controls (was expressed in Wii Sports Resort: Archery), would be less fun. Archery in Zelda has always acted like a laser, mostly for lack of good physics programming, but also for ease of use. If you had to start taking all the factors that they use in WSR Archery into account, it would get very irritating very quick.

I'll just wait for Red Steel 2 for the WM+, whenever that comes out....

TBH, I'm not the slightest bit suprized, I have no intention of buying one, I'm pretty happy without, saying that, I already know resort will sell a ton loads, especially if it is packed with motionplus.

Actually, this is not good news.
There are more than 20M Wii units in the market and there will be less than 5M Wii MotionPlus in the market.
For developers, it's a nightmare.

Can you factor in all of those TW10 numbers? I know multiple people that bought it without the WMP 'cause they didn't have the extra cash.

They may just sell tens of millions of these buy the time Ninty's next console drops.
You never can underestimate the mystical drawing power of Frolf. It is the single activity by which all others are measured.
Hell yes I bought WM+. Now I'm staring at my mailbox, impatiently awaiting Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 from Gamefly.
