Is the PS3 the lead platform for DE?

Indeed, done the very same with a PS3 controller. However, I don't have to pay out the ass for hardware that will run 30fps, upgrade my video card every time a new game comes out, install new drivers, or apply Windows security updates, or remap the controller settings in the options, or keep a keyboard handy for when I run out of controller buttons. Try playing WoW with just a game pad (FFXI FTW).

Ah, people using tired old misconceptions, just like people still saying the PS3 and PSP have no games, etc. : D

I don't even get why these console fanboys want PC gaming to die, are you jealous that you can't afford a gaming computer? How would the death of PC gaming benefit consoles? I don't want console gaming to die out.

I guess, because human nature only allows for one, #1 spot. Which we all know Pc gaming holds. (or atleast i like to tell myself it does.)

There are a great amount of flat out ignorance in your post, but I'd say the very fact that you tried to play WoW with a gamepad makes you an idiot.

and the irony of all this is that what ever it is a ps3 only game or a xbox only game, they all were created on the same place.... a p.c.

Ignorance....wow. Kettle, meet pot.

1. Been a PC gamer since 1987
2. Played 100s of PC games
3. Used every Microsoft Operating System extensively since DOS
4. It is not idiotic to try to play WoW with a game pad if I feel like playing it on a 42" LCD screen from my couch (like I could with FFXI).

Maybe read the post instead of insinuating that I don't know what I'm talking about. All I said was I'd rather play on my couch than hunched over a keyboard. I NEVER said PC gaming was dead, and I didn't say X system was better than Y system. I did say that PC gaming has a whole host of technical issues that often have to be ironed out for a smooth experience - if that wasn't the case, how come there are 50 page FAQs on how to get various FPS's running smoothly?

Clean the sand out of your vaginas, people.

SilentMountain,

Then use a wireless keyboard and mouse; you get the benefit of better controls while still being able to play it from your couch. Does the PC, as a platform, have technical issues? Yes, but they're often highly over exaggerated (no thanks to comments like yours). "I need to update my drivers every time or by a new videocard every few months". You only update your videocard drivers once every few months and that's only so you can reap the rewards of bug fixes; in game performance will often increase and (if you're using one) your multi-GPU subsystem will often scale far better. Frequent updates only make sense if you bought a card featuring a new architecture; there's often much that has to be done in the way of optimizations and bug fixes for the first 2-3 months of a new architecture's life.

There's also little point in upgrading your videocard more than once every 2-3 years unless the lowest resolution you're playing at is 1920x1080 and you absolutely can't live without every image quality setting being maxed out. Plenty of people still have Geforce 8800's in their rigs despite the fact they're almost three years old and that's largely because there are only a handful of games out there that require more powerful hardware. Even so, they're still able to have an enjoyable experience as long as they tone down AA or AF slightly.

As for Windows security updates, you could simply disable Windows' security center (it's pointless if you already have decent malware protection installed) and set the updates to manual through Services rather than automatic. You'd only have your own firewall to contend with and nothing would download in the background unless you specifically requested it to.

Your keymapping problem would be the fault of the developer and not the platform. Take a good look at the PC port of Dead Space; the game was fantastic, but the controls were unplayable garbage unless you had an Xbox 360 gamepad laying about (since EA, in its infinite wisdom, chose not to include some of the most widely used gamepads on the market). It wouldn't be my or your rigs fault, it'd be EA's for acting as if they've never seen a keyboard, Logitech gamepad, or Saitek gamepad before in their entire lives.

And, finally, you don't have to pay out the ass for decent hardware. This is, above all else, why your were told off. Today, you could buy an HD 4870 1 GB or GTX 260 216 for less than $150 and only have a few games you couldn't absolutely max out at 1680x1050 or 1920x1080 (GTA IV because it's an awful port, the Crysis games, and Cryostasis because it was poorly developed). For $100, you could (if you can find one) pick up an HD 4770 that's often able to touch toes or even beat the more expensive Geforce 9800 GTX + or HD 4850. You could even go so far as to buy a $60-$70 HD 4670 and still have a reasonable good gaming experience (it's no slower than last years HD 3870) provided you're playing around 1280x720 (image quality settings have to be scaled back the higher you go). $400-$600 solutions or multiGPU solutions like Crossfire or SLI do not make sense unless the native resolution of your monitor is 2500x1600 (which would be twice the number of pixels 1920x1080 would be rendering) and, again, you're trying to max everything out.

"how come there are 50 page FAQs on how to get various FPS's running smoothly" Because they're either using old hardware (Geforce 7 era) or they're trying to play with image quality settings that are definitely above what their videocards can handle. This is why the are so many Crysis confiq FAQs; people want the image, physics, and sound quality of Very High at 1920x1080 even though they're using a piece of hardware that simply can't meet those kinds of demands. All the tweaks do is make it appear as if they're playing with those quality settings even though they obviously aren't and are having to make sacrifices else where (draw distance, vegetation distance, etc). Of course, you then get a different group that simply isn't satisfied with their game's appearance once maxed out and they simply push the engine to its limits (think FakeFactory's Cinematic mod v9.5 for Half-life 2 compared to its default settings).

"Clean the sand out of your vaginas, people." People were upset with you because you spouted off the same half-truths we have to deal with almost every damn day as it pertains to our platform of choice; of course they're going to be upset. I know it irked me to read what was essentially, "PC gaming is too expensive and buggy!". It'd be the same as saying the PS3 has no good games and is too expensive, or that all Xbox 360s are shoddily built, RROD/E74s just waiting to happen; while there are some elements of truth to each, they are still gross over exaggerations that serve no purpose to but to create hostile responses. For someone that says they've been PC gaming for 22 years, you should've been well aware that you were over exaggerating our platform's problems and you should've known everything I just told you.
