Infinity Ward community guru Robert Bowling issued
an interesting tweet this afternoon -- one that suggests the developer is consulting (with who we don't yet know) on a
Modern Warfare 2 controller. Before you start envisioning a fully functioning
M4 carbine to go with your
night vision goggles, know that the pad surely sounds of the nothing-too-fancy variety. Specifically, we know it'll have analog thumbsticks, as Bowling asks followers of his Twitter feed whether they prefer concave (innie) or convex (outie) stick-tops.
We asked Bowling about the controller, and while he couldn't offer any solid details, he did confirm it "isn't being manufactured by [Infinity Ward] or [Activision]," and that the call for votes was meant to "get the opinions of the people who will actually be using it to help settle a debate." You can cast your vote by sending a tweet to @fourzerotwo. (We went with "concave.")

Lol I thought that pic was real before reading the storyl. My first thought was:
"youre shitting me"
Sabi @ Jul 20th 2009 7:22PM
yea me too
Levi @ Jul 20th 2009 7:26PM
Ditto. That would probably be the coolest pre-order/limited/premium edition bonus ever.
Ballistic H @ Jul 20th 2009 7:31PM
It would also have been the biggest controversy if it was really that.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 20th 2009 10:20PM
I also though that was real for a second, my first thought was "that looks really uncomfortable".
Sabi @ Jul 20th 2009 7:20PM
*drool*
Sabi @ Jul 20th 2009 7:22PM
oh nevermind, i decided to read the post,,,its not really a M4 modded to a controller...
*slurp*
SimbaDogg @ Jul 20th 2009 8:04PM
fuck this...i'm fueled by the asshats at EA and Harmonix/Activision...we have all these damn games that try to suck people in w/ stupid peripherals. I'm getting sick of it. No way in hell i'm gonna spend another $40 dollars on some controller that i'm only going to be able to use for this one game. first the prestige edition...now this?!?!
MaliceMajorE15 @ Jul 20th 2009 8:22PM
I think the important thing to remember is that this is still gunna be a regular controller. probably THE controller to use for most FPS- fine tuned for COD use.
Or another plastic piece of crap from activision, discuss
KFelon @ Jul 21st 2009 8:47AM
Fix the D-Pad and they'll sell a shit load.
Cr4sh Dummy @ Jul 21st 2009 10:30AM
@SimbaDogg
That's the beauty of capitalism; you can by outlandish swag, or not. Either way it's the consumers decision.
eNrique @ Jul 20th 2009 7:21PM
No más de esto, por favor!!!
kacex @ Jul 20th 2009 10:32PM
mas por favor mas!!!
eat my face @ Jul 21st 2009 11:03AM
que?
Gun Barrier @ Jul 20th 2009 7:22PM
I would go with concave, too. I probably wouldn't buy it unless it offered a big improvement over the original 360 game pad though.
Mazrael @ Jul 20th 2009 8:02PM
It's the dpad that sucks.. and whatever material they use on the sticks.. I wear that 'rubber' down really quick
Gun Barrier @ Jul 20th 2009 8:12PM
The d-pad could use some improvement, but that wouldn't be enough for me to buy a new pad. It would have to be wireless, rechargeable, have different button placement, and be of good quality. Some Art and a better d-pad won't cut it for me.
Captain Planet @ Jul 20th 2009 7:22PM
Oh man, Jack Thompson would be all over this if he saw that picture.
U U D D L R L R B A SELECT START @ Jul 20th 2009 7:39PM
LOL, let em at it...since he's been disbarred he pretty much has to just pace his house muttering obscenities against video games to himself now.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Jul 20th 2009 7:24PM
Lol, thank god thats not it, what a place to put analogue sticks :D
Jeremy White @ Jul 20th 2009 7:24PM
I want that controller. Imagine that controller with 1:1 motion sensing... no doubt it would be superior to an actual Xbox or PS3 controller.
Menchi @ Jul 20th 2009 7:27PM
And next you want it to start making firing noises!
And then you want it to start firing painball/bb rounds!
And then you want it to shoot real bullets at real people!
More at 10 on Fox news.
Levi @ Jul 20th 2009 7:30PM
See, that's what I'm hoping for with the goofy looking wand things that they are making for PS3. An I'm sure they could figure out how to do it with Natal too. Kinda rinds me of that video with the guy with the mullet that had the gyro mouse/gun/LCD controller.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 20th 2009 9:00PM
That mullet guy, the head tracking guy, and johnny lee need to team up to be an unstoppable force of awesome. I would kill for a gun peripheral with 1:1, head tracking, and recoil. Drooooooool
Levi @ Jul 20th 2009 9:13PM
you know what, let's take the idea farther. Let's get the guys that did Virtual Boy (minus Gunpei - rest in peace you genius) another shot, and throw them in the mix. 3D VR MWF2 with head tracking and 1:1 motion tracking M4 that transforms into other guns. I would not only buy and play this $600 mess of peripherals, but everything in my living room would eventually be broken from me running into it, my girlfriend would leave me, and then I'd end up back here complaining that it's not supported by enough developers, and Resident Evil 5 would be so cool with it XD
but it would be awesome.
JDRE_124 @ Jul 21st 2009 2:26AM
Errr 1:1 gun controlling does not equate to being superior to a standard controller.
If anything you'd have to be quite good at general firearm discipline (ya know, holding it right, not hurling your body side to side, etc.) and knowing the kind of people that play CoD 4 that is doubtful they'd have that kind of patience.
Chances are you'd get your ass kicked using something like that.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 20th 2009 9:46PM
....but it would be awesome
Levi @ Jul 20th 2009 11:21PM
Jdre: might not be better than mouse + kb, but as long as you're not physically disabled, it's gotta be better for aiming.
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Jul 21st 2009 1:43PM
Buy an AR-15. That's about as 1:1 as it gets.
schultzkenneth @ Aug 12th 2009 8:11AM
that, would be pretty bad ass actually.
Crusty Magic @ Jul 20th 2009 7:25PM
360 controller with concave sticks?
I'm in.
Ballistic H @ Jul 20th 2009 7:39PM
360 controllers already have concave (innie) stick-tops. Convex (outie) stick-tops would be like the PS controllers.
Crusty Magic @ Jul 20th 2009 7:41PM
My bad!
The Baron @ Jul 20th 2009 7:50PM
See I way prefer innie thumbsticks. Mine keep sliding off the ones on the Dualshock 3.
Ballistic H @ Jul 20th 2009 7:53PM
@ The Baron: They're made of non-slippery rubber...
Sly @ Jul 20th 2009 8:19PM
i would like a mix of the 360 and PS3 sticks. innies like the 360, but the material of the PS3 sticks.
The Baron @ Jul 20th 2009 9:01PM
Not non-slippery enough.
Arman Khan @ Jul 21st 2009 11:10AM
@Baron
That's what she said...
sonicspike41 @ Aug 11th 2009 2:07PM
What are you doing that your hands get so sweaty they always slip off?
x Shadow @ Jul 20th 2009 7:28PM
Watch it end up as normal Xbox 360 controller with a COD: MW2 casing.
Kevin @ Jul 20th 2009 7:55PM
Exactly, maybe with a tiny modification to make a few buttons easier to access for MW2 only, making it useless for any other game.
Ballistic H @ Jul 20th 2009 7:29PM
Fragfx for PS3. Period. Or make it keyboard & mouse compatible.
dannyCage @ Jul 21st 2009 6:54PM
Have anyone got it to work with COD4? I just get some shaky result, with inaccurate rotation movements
Spartan @ Jul 20th 2009 7:30PM
a wii remote & nunchuk combo... with a concave stick.
RedRose @ Jul 20th 2009 9:05PM
i concur
stormtrooper190 PSN= (im not telling you that) @ Jul 21st 2009 8:34AM
isint the guncon 3 a wii remote & nunchuk combo but better .
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Jul 20th 2009 7:33PM
Can it be used for Halo?
Doug @ Jul 20th 2009 9:53PM
People actually play Halo? Yikes.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 20th 2009 10:01PM
yes, many thousands do. Asshole
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Jul 20th 2009 10:30PM
Is that why I got voted down :/ Was a serious question, it would be great if it has a multipurpose.
