No one thinks that the fact that in the u.S. killzone2 sold only 200k more than UFC and Killzone 2 was out for 2 months (not counting Feb since it was only out a few days) extra than UFC, and also that killzone 2 is supposed to be this huge system seller exclusive and had alot of hype, but UFC is a multiplatform title.

I mean UFC pushes 500k (in the US) since May and KZ2 only pushes about 700k (in the US) with a 2 month head start. That means with a 2 month head start the huge "Halo killer" Killzone 2 only sold an extra 200k than a multiplatform title. I wonder if UFC released at the same time of Killzone 2 if it would of sold more than KZ2.

You'd think something with that kind of hype would have sold more. Even if we are just looking at US numbers.

I blame KZ2's slow start on:

A) Lousy economy
B) Sony's horrible horrible advertisement department
C) Too many exclusives available for PS3

Even games with the word "Halo" on them didn't sell all too well either. Even a great game like inFamous didn't make the cut? Too bad.

@loljoystiq

In reality the problems have been reduced greatly - and despite the problems it is still beating the ps3 handily in sales here.

I don't like the way MS handled the quality issue overall (although if you recall the PS2 had issues of the same magnitude) but it speaks to their marketing strategy and strength of the software library and online service that they easily weathered what could have been a fatal quality issue.

I really enjoy my PS3 and can't wait for Uncharted 2 but the majority of my gaming is on my 360.

Just sayin'

Who needs "exclusives" when your cross-platform games handily outsell platform exclusives, eh?

Killzone 2 -- the great Halo Killer -- produced by a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony to the tune of at least $60million.

Yet the game has been a financial disaster for Sony. Not only has it not sold PS3 units, by sales have been surpassed by cross platform titles like UFC and Resident Evil 5.

Same deal with Uncharted and Little Big Planet. All good games. But not system sellers.

So much for exclusives. Sony really need to make PS3 much more friendly, easier and cheaper for third-party developers, instead of ensuring/bribing developers through exclusivity and outright studio acquisitions .

Womble, you do know that all those games has sold well over 1 million units, in the case of Uncharted well into the 3 millions, how Killzone 2 was a finacial disaster I don't know, and if according to you the game cost $60m to make and it solver 1m units worldwide doesn't that mean it made money?

Is that so Gavin?

That's weird, because I own BOTH of those games, and I also frequent Joystiq daily, and own a PS3 and 360 (the 360 not purchased by me) as well. I also play Resident Evil, Zelda, Final Fantasy, and many other franchises all the time.

What exactly is your typical Wii owner again?

Elitists on these blogs love to say "soccer moms" "grandparents" cuz it helps them curl up next to their 360 at night. However, the Wii has no typical owner. It's one of the many beauties of the system!

Resident Evil 5 is great! Probably the best 2-player co-op out there on the Ps3, but I can imagine it being very boring if you don't have a partner to play with.Killzone 2 seems to be great aswell but I haven't bought it yet and only tried it for about half an hour over at a friend of mine.

nifty. Now I'll give my oh-so-interesting view on this (for those of you who pretend to care what I think).

Killzone 2 is a VERY good FPS that I would never buy. Why? No splitscreen! It's a crime against humanity. FPS without fragging a buddy next to you just seems strange. Can't do it. Ever. shame.
Resident Evil 5 is very fun, no surprises.
UFC undisputed, well, it's a halfway decent fighter. not very flashy, but ok. Not surprised.
Halo - needs to die. They're making master Chief into the xbox icon, like mario. Just wait for it, HaloKart and HaloFit. They'll be fun games, but I can see why Bungie said they didn't want to do it anymore. There is no creative personality in them.
Wii needs to die. Ok, maybe not DIE like halo, but certainly some of these stupid games should. Wii fit sold lots, but how many people use it? Of those, how many think it's fun? Wii play is similar. MarioKart Wii is the only one on the top 5 list that's any lasting fun (but oh so fun).

Oh, and because of the war going on about the raw numbers for each console, remember it in reference to how many consoles there are, and with reference to the accuracy of the games numbers. (we estimate, it's over $..., we don't include collectors editions numbers(except for the 360), and so forth). So anyone that says the ps3 was purchased only for blu-ray would be an idiot. you know, theoretically, if anyone said that.

And finally, the US numbers are pretty meaningless by themselves. They don't mean much to the companies (it's just one piece of the pie), and they don't mean much to us(really, I'm not buying wii fit just because other people in the US did, and I'm not going to say it's a great game) Worldwide numbers are significant there, but this article doesn't say anything about those.

I think they have more modernized remakes along the lines of Bionic Commando, or retro-styled sequels like Mega Man 9. Straight up ports of old games don't sell that well on XBLA when compared to old games remade for the platform.

A remixed version of Final Fight would be awesome. Do you think they should keep it 2D or try a 3D version of the game? I wonder why they never digitize people in games anymore ala Mortal Kombat. The Mo Cap stuff is cool, but it's still something you don't see anymore.

I'll take new games over ports though, especially with Capcom's track record at recreating classic games. BC Rearmed, Rockman Powered Up!, and Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins were retrogaming perfection. I liked Rockman 9 as well, but I wish they hadn't abandoned the slide and charge buster.

On the other hand, I hate it when remakes / revamps don't include their original games, and don't think Capcom has ever included the original in any of their remakes.

I think in Street Fighter 2 HD, you can play in the classic old school version of the game. Not sure if that's the same thing you're wanting though.

Nah, I'm talking when I beat the fudge out of UGNG, I was expecting to be treated to some mind-numbingly difficult Ghouls 'N Ghosts and Ghosts 'N Goblins emulated coin-op action. Same with BC Rearmed.

SSFIITHDR's classic mode is same game with classic rules and move sets, you aren't playing the actual original game.

perhaps in the US Caveman. but you (or at least I) can't help but find it fascinating that this years highest selling 360 game in the US actually had higher sales on the PS3 worldwide, yet still the very same game came second to KZ2 (which itself is approaching 2 million world wide) in the US. any one territory can skewer numbers; it's total numbers that matter.

I do laugh at some of your witty remarks, however there was nothing witty about that one. I don't know why you make this a personal attack. I'm not here to flame anyone. If you're going to make a statement like that back it up.

In that same article it shows PS3 hardware sales down 30% for the 1st half of the year and the Xbox 360's are up by 21%.

honestly i felt the game would sell 3 million copies to 20+ million ps3 owners myself, but its the typical ps3 showing of selling 1 million or fewer copies on most every game released including main selling and advertised franchises.

it really only proves the theory that many people have purchased the ps3 as an HD movie player and now dust collector......
what else can a fanboy say otherwise?
(just wait for the games again and again?)

we see the price drops do not work at all, because MS is ready to drop their price at or around the same time when needed.

artimus give it a rest with the BS figures....

(btw i really enjoyed killzone2 as a game... it was fun to play.. harder than the average shooter game and felt realistic.. I really enjoyed beating that game myself and the online was fun at first, but then i just went back to other games...)

artimus are you forgetting about halo3.5 and forza 3 later this year which are guaranteed to sell pretty well on the 360 and COD:6 which always sells better on the 360?

remember more games are released on the 360 each year and by the end of the year MS has accumulated more revenues and profit (sony has yet to turn any profit this gen on any console) every year this generation thus far. and btw MS sales are up this year and sony is down.....
so take your lame figures to the cleaners for a wash.. its on the house..

and COD:5 has sold 6 million copies on the 360 and 3 million copies on the ps3, trumpeting the 2.3 million copies of resident evil 5 ps3 and 2.2 million copies of re5 360....

yeah the game is great... i really just got tired of the rocket launchers and other people online that made the game not as fun as the 1 player experience for me, so i went back to playing fallout 3 and other games...
