We're not ones to assume that past performance is a definitive indicator of future output, especially in the games industry (Volition goes from Saint's Row to the radical Red Faction: Guerrilla? Who saw that coming?). But we can't help but be encouraged by the news that former Blizzard North boss and Diablo creator David Brevik has joined Gazillion to lead development on the Marvel Universe MMO.
We're more excited about the hire because we hope it indicates the title's gameplay direction. A more action-influenced MMO take on the world of Marvel sounds like it's been bitten by radioactive awesome.

Diablo was a MUD, not MMO... this means absolutely nothing.

MMO has nothing to do with play-style, I can have an MMO shooter, and MMO racer, an MMO puzzle game and maybe even (this sounds nutty I know) an MMO RPG?!
You have been informed that MMO stands for 'Massive Multiplayer Online' right?

Oh boy...
The last time a Diablo guy went and made himself an MMO, we got Hellgate: London (epic fail, if you're unfamiliar).
Past performance don't mean much in this industry... Countless "celebrity" devs have went on to make total flops.
A good IP don't mean too much either... Star Wars: Galaxies, anyone?
I sure hope they don't fuckin' chunk it with Marvel...

yea, you can find posters of that picture, I have one myself, it was like 8 bucks @ walmart.
back on topic: I hope this game doesn't suck and one of the main reasons I got a 360 years ago, because there was a Marvel MMO. Don't screw it up.

But is this the kiddie one? I mean, not that there's anything wrong about that. But if it is, I suspect it won't be all that hardcore, in the context if it being done by the guy who created Diablo.

No, I meant the game. If it's the one based on Marvel Superhero Squad, it'll probably be more accessible and family friendly. I mean, they COULD fill it up with arbitrary rules and stuff, but remember this is what we're talking about:

So, just a lil pick at the post, but it's not suprising at all that Volition "went from" Saints Row 2 to Red Faction Guerilla since (correct me if I'm wrong) they created the first two Red Faction games (great games) last generation and then went to Saints Row for the 360.

Saint's Row was a blemish in an otherwise great run. A better line would be "Volition goes from Freespace and Red Faction to Saint's Row? Who saw that coming". The original Red Faction was an underrated but highly enjoyable shooter, and the Freespace series is one of the best space sims availalbe, the match of anything short of Tie Fighter. The aborration is that they went from that to laboring in relative obscurity on the Saint's Row series, which, while not bad, are defined by their inability to stand out in general.
Anyway, it isn't so much the design chops of the blizzard folks that defined them, but their obsession in making something so polished and approachable. If that attitude carries over to the new organization developing the Marvel MMO it has a serious chance, but if the new dev house isn't willing to commit to that the addition of blizzard talent matters fairly little.
