Don't freak out, guys. We know how worried you were when we told you that interest in Modern Warfare 2 was waning without the warm embrace of that familiar Call of Duty brand name. According to Nielsen's Video Game Tracking service, interest in the shooter has substantially improved following the association of Infinity Ward's work with Activision's recognizable franchise.
Three different consumer interest fields Nielsen tracked -- "Aided Awareness," "Definite Interest in Purchasing," and "Total Positive Interest in Purchasing" -- increased drastically from the week of July 6 (before the title was modified) to the week of July 13 (post-name change). It's just like Bill Shakespeare said: "A rose by any other name may smell as sweet, but a rose that's clearly endorsed by Activision will sell way better." We're pretty sure that's how that goes.

That's not proof. That's a guy on a blog saying he knows.

if someone plants evidence to a murder that the suspect is guilty of, does that make the planted evidence any more valid? No, shut the fuck up, that's not proof.

My interest peaked with the night vision Prestige Edition.

Whats weird is.. if you watched the Prestige Edition unboxing video.. The standard game has Call of Duty on it... but the hardened and prestige editions don't have Call of Duty anywhere on the box..

But to answer your, I guess we could call them musings, the only reason they put the CoD logo on the standard is for brand recognition. 99% (stat pulled out of my ass) of the people buying the hardened and prestige editions know what game they're really buying; they don't need a logo to remind them.

So do these games even have a story or is it all MP

There's an ongoing story in the MW games. It's actually pretty gripping too.

WOW, this both infuriates and saddens me. This shows just how stupid and ignorant the majority of gamers (the halo/cod/battlefield crowd that call themselves "hardcore" gamers which is a load of BULLSHIT.) are.

dont be silly, this is for the kind of person that walks into gamestop and buys a game based on the box art, name, and bullet points on the back. CoD is about as casual as the wii when it comes to sales and mainstream name recognition, without the CoD name, moms and dads buying Christmas and birthday presents wouldnt know what to get little johnny 10th prestige.

and you all have reminded me why i now seldom post anything on the internet anymore, a bunch of fucking 12 year old haters who think theyre too cool for school. what a sad state this world is coming too. i was simply posting a link to a story, and i get down voted and hated on. not that i care, but does that make any sense? no.
Posted: Jul 22nd 2009 2:50AM Deschain said
Well you obviously do care. Otherwise posting this is what? Just away to pass the time? Since there's nothing better to do then post a link to blog that pretty much no one has ever heard of and clams a movie that I might have cared for 3 years ago will come out (maybe) in the next 2 or 3 years?
Not that I don't agree, that one dude did come at you pretty hard and it was slightly unnecessary. But your source is not solid enough to bother posting. Hence why it was not posted. When IMBd has it up like that one dude said then sure it's official and worthy of a mention.

Lol. You really are quite naive if you think if you believe IMDB is more credible than Aint it Cool News. IMDB is the worse at posting up false info before anything is confirmed, because nearly anyone can put information up on IMDB. It's like Wikipedia, for movies. And I guess you don't keep up with movies, because if you did, you'd realize AICN is not at all a blog, but a site that's been around for over 10 years getting exclusive scoops from insiders. They post a lot of rumors, but just like Joystiq, they always mention that it is only a rumor, but when Harry Knowles says something is confirmed, then you can bet your ass its true, as he's all buddy buddy (for better or worse), with a lot of the bigwig directors in Hollywood. He's not just some dude in his basement making shit up. The fact that you don't even know Harry Knowles just goes to show how little about the subject of film you truly know.

Though I'm not sure why I even took the time to reply to someone with a gamer tag like "DiGiTaL SiN254 aka HarDCore BaDAsS420420. Not quite as bad as XXXsmokesmadbluntzXXX, but close. Boredom. That's why. I'm at work and have to pass the time somehow..

@Ryan- i totally agree with you im sick of all these annoying bullshit ppl who think they are true gamers when really they are all buying hyped up overrated POS that are marketed to hell. Guess what i got a news flash for all you ppl this game is going to be exactly like the WAW and COD4 except theyll add a few vehicles and riot shields. If you were a true gamer your favorite games would be true masterpeices like FF7, MGS series, zelda, or pretty much anything else that envolves deep gameplay and pretty much doesnt just reskin their past games to look new

You honestly don't believe CoD4 wasn't refreshing? As was CoD when it came out. Oh yea Wind Waker was SO GOOOOOOD.

I loved wind waker too (the ending kicked ass), i also agree that cod4 was a good game hell i just started playing it again but i will not buy WAW because its almost exactly the same except reskinned to the WW2 era. the only thing they added was the nazi zombies, big woop let me go out and spend $60 on a game to play one lousy mode that might last me a week before it gets old. I can almost guarntee that MW2 will be the same and will include another whopping 4hr campaign. Its all marketing, activision is laughing their asses off right now and rolling in a bed of cash for selling a game that took probably a 1/4 of the time to make than cod4 cause of the engine is probably going to be the same

FF7, MGS, and Zelda (OOT only little bit) are all overrated by a lot in my opinion.
I believe a true gamer is defined by anyone who plays a lot of games and enjoys them.
What you are trying to be is a game critic, to the max. There is nothing wrong with that, all "hardcore gamers" are at least a little bit of a critic. But you...you just annoy me with your Absolute and stereotypical examples as if you think everyone shares your opinion.

While those are definitely great games, I think you're looking at it wrong. There's a reason Call of Duty 4 is the second most commonly played game on Xbox Live (it was first for a while): it is fun. Aren't all games supposed to be inherently fun, at their core? In my opinion, Infinity Ward is the main reason for W@W's success, followed by of course the Call of Duty brand name.
Also, isn't anyone who plays games considered a gamer? Don't be so elitist about what we are. Certain people enjoy certain games, it's all a matter of taste.

I guess people like familiar brand names. How unfortunate, because Modern Warfare could have easily been a familiar brand name on its own, given the opportunity.

I really don't get this. MW was a HUGE game and therefore many should be familiar with its title. These same people should also know that MW2 is on its way, COD branding or not. The follow up also keeps the same art design characteristics as the first...etc.
Are people really that....out of it....that they need to see this COD branding to even recognize the game?!?!?!?!
JEESH!

They need the "Call of Duty" tag. Honestly I read about ten of these updates regarding "Modern Warfare", and until today I didn't make the connection that it was a follow-up to Call of Duty 4 (a game that I own and enjoyed very much by the way). Keep it simple people...
