Don't even start weaving conspiracies about how Nintendo's recently released Wii MotionPlus peripheral was supposed to be incorporated in the initial Wiimote design. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, such a nickel-and-dime plot is absolutely impossible -- and as we all know, Miyamoto never lies. Look at him, with those pinchable cheeks! Those are not the cheeks of a liar.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Shiggy explained the MotionPlus was only possible due to technological innovations "which took place after Wii launched." Actually, he says the technology was around, but it would have been impossible to use at such a "compact" size and low price. So, did you want Wiimotes to cost $200 and weigh as much as toddlers? No? We didn't think so.

I just hope MS doesn't charge at $100 for Natal. That would be stupid considering how cheap WM+ and is supposedly better.

semi off-topic:
I've been looking around for deals on new DS games and I saw that Gamestop has Dark Spire for $10. Since it cost so little, I decided I'd buy 2 more games along side it. I decided that when I go, I'll also pick up Professor Layton. Heres where the trouble starts, I've narrowed down my choices for the 3rd game to 5 options; Front Mission ($20), Valkyrie Profile ($20), Final Fantasy Tactics A2 ($30), Disgaea DS ($30), and Fire Emblem ($30). All 5 are great SRPGs, and I can't decide which one to get.
Anyone have any advice?

No i think that was actually sony who has trademarked the "only possilble on PS3"
Take a look at some of these http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=07L&num=20&ei=qSFmSvSCIoKSsgO1-Jn2Dg&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=only+possible+on+the+PS3&spell=1

The eye toy camera was capable of amazing things even back on the PS2 but no body had the guts to try using it. Nintendo comes along with their waggle wand and people cant line up fast enough, but developers STILL dont know what to do with it so the only people who can make even a remotely compelling experience with it is Nintendo. Sony's tactic is to take the controller and not try to make fancy games but simply to say "make regular games that use this and oh btw you can do fancy things with the camera that you cant do with a wiimote."
Perfectly logical really.

I trust Miyamoto that that may be true.
HOWEVER, that doesn't change the fact that what Nintendo promised originally with the Wii's launch was essentially what the MotionPlus does now...
So...whether it was possible then or not, Nintendo still promised it, and let many people (myself included) down at launch on this one. I haven't tested MotionPlus, but hopefully it's what Wii owners everywhere have deserved for several years. They really should have given these away like with the rubber jackets--players paid for their Wii + Remotes assuming this technology was already in there.
Regardless, hope this improves Wii development in the future--I was so disappointed that after Smash Bros and Mario Kart didn't quite work for me, I got rid of the Wii. If this proves to work out the way it's alleged to, I may eventually pick up a new one...

It certainly could have saved the gaming world a lot of grief if they had just bitten the bullet and gone with it back then (whether they ate the expense themselves, or passed it on), though it really wouldn't have made that much of a difference, aside from making Red Steel and Twilight Princess a little better, and possibly allowing LucasArts more time to work on the inevitable, obligatory Lightsaber game.
Certainly wouldn't have helped some of their own best work on Wii: Brawl, Kart (basic tilt), MP3 (whose excellence was derived from the pointer), and Super Mario Galaxy
Oh, and i guess it could have made for a slightly more epic No More Heroes, but Suda himself is unsure about how much, if at all, M+ will be applied for NMH2

Size was a factor, too. The MotionPlus adds to the length of the Wiimote already, but it would have needed more space to include even more chips to detect motion on all the axes back then that the Sixense chip does today.

Sure Miyamoto, and the graphics fidelity of the PS3's "4D" graphics is only achievable because of the Cell "broadband" processor.

Well, it's here now so they need to stop making regular Wiimotes and start selling WiimotePlus and MotionPlus adapters. Of course they won't do that but cause they probably like the idea of customers paying $80 for the complete functionality of titles that are just around the corner. Anyone think they might actually add the motionplus tech directly into the wiimote?

i was going to call bullshit until you cleared that up at the end saying the tech wasn't compact enough.
now i'm still calling bullshit, it could have been done - they just didn't have or didn't want to gamble by investing the bells.
still getting wii sports resort and a second mp unit (maybe)

Why is he holding up 3 fingers with his right hand? Is he trying to tell us something?
Anyways, Shiggy can't lie.
Some say he's allergic to the action of lying, and that if you look at the full moon long enough, he'll speak directly to your mind.
All we know is that he's called the stig, i mean shiggy.
