Read the article twice now.
It says it's better than the wii remote.
It didn't mention motion plus.

But even in the full article, they completely dodge the question with typical marketing-speak. This puts into serious question whether the Sony controller can match up with the Wii Motion Plus, available now.
----

Eurogamer: Going back to the issue of precision, have you tried out the new Wii MotionPlus accessory, which is designed to give the Wii remote a much greater degree of accuracy?

Paul Holman: I don't think we should be commenting on the opposition. I think that's one you want to ask some developers working on these titles, because it's not for us; it's not our style.

Kish Hirani: We're giving designers technology and training them how to use the technology. They're the ones who write the games, so I think it's only fair if you ask them.

Paul Holman: We're proud of the technology and we think it's going to be really good, but we'll see what people do with it.

So? Spartan asked the question, he got the answer (which wasn't really an answer).

I didn't say that the PS3 wand was better or worse than Motion+, I only said that they talked about it in the article.

So.. it doesn't answer the $64,000 question: "Is it better than motion plus?" Spartan hit the nail on the head with that one, and you took us off to never-never land. Thanks for that.

As Wiimote is only just out, and the Wand Isn't finished I'd say it's kinda hard to say.
The guys that made the motion plus came out last year quite publicly stating that they don't have exclusivity with Nintendo and would make other motion devices if anyone approached them, so this may have the same tech inside, making the rotation stuff as accurate as motionplus.
The wii still lacks a camera though which does give the wands an advantage.

Even with the motion plus the Wii remote is still laggy. Its just an problem with that tech.

The more important point is that Sony keeps showing off "handwriting 101" on the motion controller. Stop claiming it's better than the Wiimote and then only showing us things the Wiimote can already do!

(To give a frame of reference, I sold my Wii and own a PS3. And I think Sony's tech IS capable of more. But Sony is NOT doing a good job of marketing this, at all.)

Sony needs to stop drawing their names in the air, and bring out that skeleton demo again. Add to the RTS, the block-building, and the "empty room" demo. But stop writing your names, or you won't be showing off anything worth buying from the consumer perspective! Differentiate yourself, don't just repeat the same already-existing functionality!

If it's laggy, then someone has calibration problems (the software designer, you, whatever). That's not an issue of the tech (except in that it may be finicky on the calibration front).

Properly applied, it's lag-free

So, to sum up what's on the original article:

Q: Is it better than the Wii motion controller?
A: It's another generation or two forwards.
Q: But, is it better than the Wii motion controller Plus?
A: I don't think we should be commenting on the opposition

lol.

TuxBobble: They're showing off handwriting because that IS something unique to their technology. The Wii's remote does not have that kind of precision.

The Wii's infrared sensor isn't as precise as what's being shown here, and until the Motion+ attachment, it was the most precise part of the Wiimote.

Considering nintendo said motionplus isnt even true 1:1 yet, and sonys wand is, plus they said the wand is multiple generAtions ahead of the wiimote and motionplus isnt even 1 generation ahead of it.

Its safe to say the wand is better

Wii Motion Plus is just as good, it's the same exact technology. The PS3 tech demo was just like the Wii Motion Plus tech demo. After that, it all depends on how the developers use the tech in their games. In Tiger Woods for example, from my hands on, it was nearly 1:1. I could not however move the club anywhere I wanted to, but that was a choice by the developers to lock the club in a swinging pose at all times. I later saw some kids playing, it they swung, and the swing came later, though I was not sure if it was because of something else (WM+ possibly turned off?)

Wii Motion Plus is still VERY Jittery. The t.v. like L.E.D. technology is outdated. I mean you can use candles to replicate the motion bar. The camera is looking at the device rather than a bar below the screen. So it offers much more depth cause all the Wii can do is see light really. This sees dimensions, depth, etc...

The wii (even with wii motion plus and other attachments) will never feel as clean. If you don't agree with me you don't know what you're talking about and you paid NO attention to that part of E3.

It's not the final design. I read it's supposed to be like a DS3 but
split in two, meaning you can still use it to play PS3 games that
have come out already.

I wonder how the analog sticks will be positioned if this happens? As
they are now, that would be quite unwieldy to control.

That isn't exactly an objective statement though. Now if say someone from EA went and said that then its worthy of taking note. However, the fact Sony is saying it isn't surprising.

Everyone knows that technology such as this and Natal will not deliver exactly as promised, just as the WiiMote didn't

Besides, you can technically do this with the Wii now anyway

Granted what the showed off at E3 wasn't a lot to go off, but from what I saw I did get the impression that response was more sharp and 'snappy' than the Wiimote. I personally haven't used motion +, so I can't really comment on that end of things.

Now that's just misleading.
Wiimote is crap because it's cheap. We already have technology to make it work perfectly well. Have you ever seen those air mouse? Sure it uses a different tech, but we have achieved that kind of precision with lag free level a long time ago. The problem is it's not el-cheapo like the Wii. In fact, these kinda tech retails for half to full price of a wii.
MS doesn't have a track record of quality when it comes to consoles. They remain competitive with time advantage. They only have "better than average" tech, but they release it ahead of the competition. Once Natal comes out, I'm sure it will top motion+ easily, albeit being a bit more expensive.
Sony so far is struggling with pricing. They are selling high tech stuff at high price point. I am willing to bet that the new Wand will be more accurate than Natal or Motion+ can ever hope to be. But it will not be competitive at all due to pricing.

I just hope the mic that comes with these new cameras will let you play Singstar stuff (or chat online) without extra peripheral.

The MEMS technology (I presume the same as in WiiMote and WiiMote Plus) has capability of capturing motions as small as few millimeters.

I presume that Nintendo put some brakes in WiiMote so that it will not register useless micromotions like e.g. body shake due to heartbeat.

It's only logical for Sony to eventually add the same tuning to their controller.

assume - suppose to be the case, without proof.
presume - take for granted that something exists or is the case.

Read the definition, Ashitaka? Presume also means, 'to suppose to be true without proof'. Both words are borderline interchangeable in common day usage so I don't follow the need for you to want to get into a pissing match over it.

On other side, since PS3 has more computing power, theoretically it can also poll the controller more often, resulting in smoother motions. (Ask any PC gamer about PS/2 mouse polling interval and its impact on frame rate).

That might make the difference between WiiMote and the Sony's Wand.

"It's another generation forward, or even a couple of generations."

Honestly, no matter how good Natal or the PS3 wand are, this 'new peripheral=next generation' is getting as tiresome as it is bullshit.
Microsoft said it a couple of days ago, now we have Sony stating the same. Just stop with the retarded show off and deliver your product as you promised, we don't want another Wiimote.
