Prince of Persia film posters look decidedly unterrible
Posted after the jump are two completely surprising pieces of advertising imagery -- movie posters for the Bruckheimer/Gyllenhaal joint, Prince of Persia. Why "surprising?" Because they look completely and utterly fantastic. Yeah, we know. We were just as surprised as you.
Don't get it twisted -- the movie won't be good. It can't be good. However, its advertising looks very professional, its font choice is delightfully non-cheesy, and its Prince looks very Princely. That's an achievement in and of itself. Check out both posters after the jump.

As long as Uwe Boll is not involved, this adaptation is something I see of as a new cash cow.
Trickob @ Jul 21st 2009 1:54AM
This is a Disney movie?!
...
huh...
cjshrader @ Jul 21st 2009 7:23AM
That was my first impression too...I had no idea...
Ballistic H @ Jul 21st 2009 7:38AM
"Pirates of the Caribbean" is a Disney & Jerry Bruckheimer trilogy.
Blank-Mage @ Jul 21st 2009 9:20AM
I do hope they keep the stabbing-people-bits. They were kinda integral to the story.
snowleopard233 @ Jul 21st 2009 9:30AM
Despite Pirates of the Carribean, seeing Walt Disney in that cursive font does nothing but resurface the imagery of animated musicals and mediocre live-action family films that they continuously saturated my developing mind with.
True, Disney's actually gotten a little more mature as of late, but you still can't instantly wipe clean all those years of fairy tale juvenile marketing we've come to associate with the name.
Trickob @ Jul 21st 2009 9:59AM
@ ballistic h
my point exactly...
The Baron @ Jul 21st 2009 10:14AM
Disney animated films are some of the most perfect musicals in the business, although their live action is typically terrible (except pirates and hopefully this).
whylekat @ Jul 21st 2009 1:59AM
Omg looks soo much better then the Hitman posters!
EGOvoruhk @ Jul 21st 2009 7:14AM
Hitman didn't have Strawberry Fields, mmmmmm
HSOL @ Jul 21st 2009 2:01AM
What's with the plain old Arial font. Doesn't seem very princey or persiany.
Mikeo @ Jul 21st 2009 2:21AM
That, dear sir, is Helvetica (1st) and I suspect Avenir (2nd).
For the love of everything done properly Swiss, please do not confuse them with Arial. Ever. Again.
Mica @ Jul 21st 2009 4:33AM
Let me guess, you probably would have preferred Papyrus... *shivers*
hanconscious @ Jul 21st 2009 4:40AM
yeah 1st is Helvetica, the 2nd is Gotham.
Although i don't think they should switch typefaces between posters. If they're gonna use Helvetica stick with it. Or Gotham. Whichever.
JoeTheBlow @ Jul 21st 2009 5:21AM
Its nothing without Comic Sans.........NOTHING!
Blank-Mage @ Jul 21st 2009 9:23AM
Pah, franklin gothic semi condensed is the one true font.

Never knew Font nerds existed . . . Crikey! Now I gonna go over and stick my thumb right up his butt hole ...... Oh! He's really pissed now!
HSOL @ Jul 21st 2009 5:13PM
I'll think twice the next time I comment about fonts.
Snake Robot Podium @ Jul 29th 2009 1:18PM
I'm assuming HSOL was downvoted because he got the wrong font, but I will have to agree with him that it is not princy or persiany.
Can I at least get some serif around here?
ArchiGamer [thephilosophyofgames.wordpress.com] @ Jul 21st 2009 2:01AM
I pray to God this movie will be good!!
I love the series too much for this to fail!!
Ballistic H @ Jul 21st 2009 7:40AM
It's Bruckheimer, it won't suck. I even bet it's gonna be the first game-based movie that'll actually be a blockbuster.
Discotheque @ Jul 21st 2009 6:11PM
"It's Bruckheimer. It won't suck."
There is so much wrong in that small statement. Not to say it won't be a fun film though. I think it has potential to be a fun film (hopefully). But the name Bruckheimer isn't exactly synonymous with quality.
It's funny though how there are so many Jerry Bruckheimer haters here, yet alot of people here were also praising Michael Bay some calling him "the master of the action genre". I hope Transformers 2 slapped them in the face.
Julian @ Jul 21st 2009 2:04AM
It will be funny when Disney adapts warrior within, sands of time wasn't really violent (blood wise) so makes sense as a Disney movie but lol the second will be amusing, a bloody disney film based on a game no-less
Demaar @ Jul 21st 2009 2:22AM
There was a fair bit of stabbery in the Pirates movies. Can't see why PoP can't either.

The first poster looks awkward.
Howdy Doody @ Jul 21st 2009 7:50AM
Yeah...those boots make it kinda like he's got ol' pirate wooden legs instead.
Cj @ Jul 21st 2009 2:11AM
Are the Sands of Time even in this film?
Ballistic H @ Jul 21st 2009 7:42AM
What's awkward is the story is based on the first game, but the design seems to be based on the latest game.
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Jul 21st 2009 10:16AM
How is the design based on the latest game when he doesn't have the signature headscarf or giant claw?
Ballistic H @ Jul 21st 2009 12:56PM
I meant Gemma's look.
ballistic3188 @ Jul 21st 2009 2:44PM
actually it is warrior within's prince. not sure why they went for dark and gritty when colorful and wonderous worked so well for SOT and the new prince of persia
Xero @ Jul 21st 2009 2:11AM
sorry for the off-topic, but DEAD FANTASY IV is now out! i didn't see it posted on here so i thought I'd try giving a headsup. how do you submit stuff to the mods? I always see them thanking people for doing that but I don't know how, which is why I did this... please dont hurt me.

....and then i notice the little "Submit tips" tab... sorry guys. I will proceed to downvote my post and then administer myself a spanking....
rTwelve @ Jul 21st 2009 2:41AM
I almost want to upvote you for calling the writing team "mods", as it made me laugh.
ArchiGamer [thephilosophyofgames.wordpress.com] @ Jul 21st 2009 2:43AM
Umm...I find that kind of kinky....too much?
Sly @ Jul 21st 2009 3:28AM
i upvoted you because you have an X in your name. that's always a plus.
Blank-Mage @ Jul 21st 2009 9:25AM
A plus turned slightly to the side, but still a plus, rimshot.
ybfelix @ Jul 21st 2009 4:33AM
Great, now someone never heard of the game will take it as an Iranian art house film...
Gilmore @ Jul 21st 2009 2:27AM
Ok Joystiq: "Don't get it twisted -- the movie won't be good. It can't be good. However, its advertising looks very professional, its font choice is delightfully non-cheesy, and its Prince looks very Princely."
Seriously the movie hasn't even come out yet, we have seen no footage whatsoever and you're already saying it CANNOT be good? It should be good. It has a huge budget, A-list actors, and a story that doesn't deviate from the game. Maybe it won't be some perfectly Oscar winning film but it should be a great action-adventure film, which is pretty much EXACTLY what the game is! (The gameplay is killer though) The poster looks great and doesn't look cheesy like a lot of video game adaptions of the past. Just give it a break and hope for the best, not for the worst. I know I am.
DON'T LET ME DOWN BRUCKHEIMER
VaultICEE @ Jul 21st 2009 2:33AM
But...But...
ITS A VIDEO GAME MOVIE.
WiredKnight @ Jul 21st 2009 4:21AM
"DON'T LET ME DOWN BRUCKHEIMER"
One word: G-Force.
FraGNeM @ Jul 21st 2009 4:26AM
They're just preparing for the all-too-familiar game-to-movie translation gone horribly wrong.
This one actually has a glimmer of hope, but it might just be easier to not get our hopes up.
Galipan @ Jul 21st 2009 7:34AM
Sorry man, but I'm not sure the whole "doesn't deviate from the story" thing is true. If you look for some vids about it, there will be one of someone saying the general synopsis (sorry I can't be more specific, it's been a while. But look for it, it's out there!!).
What he said is something completely different from the original story of PoP1. The reason I'm saying this is because it REALLY ticked me off. I don't like the idea of the movie deviating from the orignal story, why? Cus that story was FREAKING AWESOME.
Nineballninja @ Jul 21st 2009 10:27AM
Yeah, man, and Mike Newell is directing! (Donnie Brasco and the best Harry Potter film, Goblet of Fire!)
D0RC @ Jul 21st 2009 2:27AM
I think this movie is actually going to be good.
Roto13 @ Jul 21st 2009 2:37AM
It might be a good movie, but it will have almost nothing to do with the game, I'm sure. They've changed too many things for the sake of changing them.
