Stealth?? thats not really their style........Especially with Cole around...."Lets kill these bitches!!!" then proceeds to chainsaw one grub while stomping another in the face............BOTH of which cause all KINDS of Noise......Guess thats why its just Marcus and Dom...lol

I think I'll wait on this for a while....not only because I'm Silver and have to wait a week anyways....but because I'm mostly using my time on 360 to play thru fable 2

Pretty scathing, Hinkle. But if that's really the case this DLC sounds like real garbage. I suppose it makes sense, though. Whereas the gameworld of Fallout 3 is more allowing of diverse content, everything in GoW2 is pretty straightforward and doesn't allow for much variance. Bummer.

What would really be cool is to allow user-generated content for GoW2, similar to the UT3 mod community. That would really move some product I think!

Meh.
While Fallout 3 has a better world for this kind of thing, true, they haven't used it well. The missions tend to be completely linear. Operation Anchorage might as well have been an on-the-rails shooter, taking out the strengths of th game (exploration, role playing) and leaving you with its weaknesses (pure combat.)

All the Fallout 3 DLC seems that way. They're somewhat tedious compared to the rest of the game and only serve the purpose of giving you overpowered goodies.

Except that Point Lookout was all about exploration and story, what with the mystery of the Tribal cult and the whole spy-story sub-plot.

And Operation Anchorage, while very linear, was still a fun diversion with new enemies to kill.

You could call this DLC garbage, but its a campaign level AND 7 new multiplayer maps. Its not a terrible deal, considering map packs in most games with only 3 or 4 maps are 10 bucks,

@ Travis: Exactly what I was thinking my good sir. The fact that it's adding so much stuff, compared to 3 Halo or Call of Duty maps for 10 bucks, is a good deal. I'm willing to overlook the fact that this story addition is only decent. Stealth mode will probably even be fun if you play with a friend and just mess around I would think...

at first I was skeptical of this specific game, after finishing the first one back when I still had my 360. there was this 360 event in this mall I was in, and they let people play full versions of a particular game, and I happened to come along a console playing this one. I played for a while, but not too long because I didn't want to make the other people wait on me, and nothing is worse than watching someone else having fun with a video game while you sit on the sidelines. anyway, it was much better than the first, and because of this game (along with crackdown 2, halo, natal) I will pick up a 360 to go along with my ps3.

they look great with the Theron armor, btw. Can't wait to play this game!

I never thought the stealth would work anyway...

BTW, This entire DLC 'pack', will that include this extra campaign bit plus the released map packs (Combustible, Snowblind)?

1200 MSP sounds pretty cheap considering the maps are 800 points each on their own.

They're doing 2 deals. This Dark Corners pack comes with 7 new maps and is 1200. Alternatively I believe the 2nd pack is 1600 and includes both the Snowblind & Combustible pack aswell as the new Dark Corner pack.

How about some BLUE theron armor, and red cog armor for multi player, or: Theron Marcus and Dom for Locust side multiplayer, and some of those Illuminated Grubs for the Cog side, would be cool.

Yeah, but Gears 2 wasn't too much different either. And I _like_ killing room after room of horde.

This pinko-blog author is obviously an anti-amerikin horde sympathizer, it's so obvious, omg, treason, McCarthy's on speed dial, etc...

(Heh, I think I'll probably buy this, in other words.)

"If you're looking for a wonderful and new campaign experience, understand this road to ruin is a deleted scene for a reason."

...because they didn't have time to finish it before the game's release?

I'm curious though - did this truly end up on the cutting room floor because the designers felt it wasn't up to snuff, as Mr. Hinkle suggests, or is he just making stuff up here?

If the latter is the case, I'd prefer that game reviews not include made-up crap in the future. Thanks.

From what I've seen from multiple sources, it's a deleted scene. Do you not like Dave, or Joystiq, or what's your deal?

I have no problem with Joystiq - I'm a frequent visitor / poster here.

What I don't like is when people say things that are meant to be taken as fact when there is no evidence that what they said is true. Calling it a "deleted scene" is fine - it doesn't try to explain why it was deleted. David stated that this DLC was left out "for a reason," implying that it was left out because it was of low quality. I challenge him to prove that.

I've not heard this anywhere else, not do I have any reason to believe that this is true. So why is this little bit of nonsense in a review, a type of article that I would hold to a higher standard than the typical sensational rumor stories that are frequently posted here?

If there is some bit of news that I am not privy to, and this content was actually cut from the original release because it wasn't deemed good enough, then I am wrong, and that is fine with me. I have nothing against Joystiq here - I just like a little bit less rumor and a little bit more fact in my reviews.

I don't think I implied it was left out due to its lack of quality, but rather because the stealth gameplay isn't something that Gears is all about, or does well. The non-stealth stuff is traditional Gears fare and I think I was pretty clear in stating that.

Well the real reason they say is too much underground. which I agree.

their was only like 2 or 3-4 short levels above ground

You mean like how Joystiq kept saying that it was Mike Capps himself who came up with the idea of paying for the endings of games, when he really had nothing to do with it?

In interviews Epic has said that part of the reason it was deleted was because so much of the game already takes place underground, and they didn't want to overdo it.

I don't think too many people will be getting it just for the new campaign chapter, so it's not a huge letdown.

Pretty much my problem with the game.. The outdoor parts were great, but I moaned every time we had to go back to the damn underground.. If they had released it for free, it probably would have gotten me back into the game, but I'm not going to pay for more of the parts I didn't enjoy.

Would definitely like to see more single player content added to games like these though. It just needs to be done slightly better.

Yup, I'm still occasionally slogging through co-op with my buddy that lives in another state. We played the 1st together co-op back when we were roomies, so now that's pretty much the only way we want to play the 2nd. Been taking awhile though...

You guys are cracking me up. 90% of you are complaining about this. I'm confused...your getting 20 extra minutes from one of the best games of last year ???

How is more Gears a bad thing - even if it's exactly the same as the previous game???

It's like saying to your girl/guy - "No thanks, we had sex in that position that last month. I'll pass."

More sex is never a bad thing - just like Gears.

Yes, this is just like that. If you date a prostitute who always requires payment for sex and this particular time you are paying for a lower quality bit of sex.
Since it's underground and a lot of people thought those were the boring parts, it's somewhat closer to saying 'No thank you, I will pass on this costly and very small amount of identical or lower quality sex and just have the sex we always have and I can have any time via the magic of being able to just replay the game...." and this is where the analogy breaks down further.

Where are these masses that hated that underground parts? Your analogy works because it's based off your opinion. Mine works because it's based on my opinion. The only way my analogy breaks down is if my opinion changes, which it hasn't.

And this is where the flaw in your logic breaks down further.

They canceled the retail version and made it DLC only instead, so there is ONLY two downloadable versions: the 1200 points "Dark Corners" with deleted scene 'Road to Ruin' and 7 new maps, OR the 1600 points "All Fronts" edition with deleted scene and 19 old & new maps (all maps from 'Flashback,' 'Combustible,' 'Snowblind,' and 'Dark Corners.')

This was an extremely biased article and video.
The "It's best not to put too much thought into anything Gears-related" comment was just plain stupid and, I would say, fanboy-ish.
Being in the business, I sometimes wonder how people like this can call themselves "journalists". Maybe this is one of the reasons why gaming journalism isn't taken seriously by most people outside the gaming community.

I think you're analyzing this a bit too much. Remember: It's only one person's opinion.

Personally I liked how he was honest and said how he felt about it instead of giving the typical boring runthrough explaining what we already know about it.
