Let's play the hot new game sweeping the nation: "Good News, Huh News." Croteam chief Roman Ribaric recently told Eurogamer, "I believe Serious Sam fans would want to hear the following two things. First, Serious Sam 3 will play like the original Serious Sam." That's the good bit. "And second, we'll leave the cartoony look behind." Huh?
See that image above? That's an actual enemy from Serious Sam II. As near as we can tell, it's a bipedal robot, the head of which is a dinosaur. We guess what we're getting at is this: How, exactly, does one make a dinosaur-headed robot "not cartoony"?

that's as dumb as an idea as not having Robot Hitler in Wolfenstein

I Guess they're going for a "serious" feeling.

Don't forget motion blur, HDR lighting, and grit. Oh, and a sickly green filter like Fallout 3 wouldn't hurt either. If it has a 3rd person camera, a cover system and screaming 13 year olds on Xbox Live it'll be PERFECT!

Awww.... I like SS the way it is....
I personally believe that the SS games are what Doom 3 should have been (which wasn't a bad game, but just a terrible Doom game imo).

"We decided that Duke Nukem should take a more serious tone. In DNF, Duke will have to deal with the immediate and moral consequences of his actions, such as the birth of his illegitimate daughter to the wife of his best friend, as well as the results of his frivolous killing before the eyes of the public."

Methinks it means they will be getting rid of all characters like that. Which is ridiculous. Why dumb down an over-the-top action game? To purposely make it mediocre?

I agree! I loved the look and feel of Serious Sam 1 and 2! Please don't make it look like Gears of War! It wont suit Serious Sam at all!

yeah, didn't SS2 (not second encounter) look wayy more cartoony? Maybe they're just backing off of that. Maybe they're taking a Resident Evil 5 approach. Sure, it looks FANTASTIC, but when the villian says "I've just had an extreme makeover!!," you know it's not meant to be taken seriously...

Taking an interesting fun FPS and dumbing it down so it can be as generic and bland as 95% of FPS's today. Real cool beans.

AT-ATs are the giant ones with 4 legs. You are referring to AT-STs. However, this more closely resembles an AT-PT

next thing you know, metal gear solid will ditch the stealth, gran turismo will forget about cars, mario will become a fps, halo will become a puzzle game, and street fighter will exist without fighting.

I think you mean... Next thing you know, Metal Gear Solid will ditch the stealth, Gran Turismo will add guns, Mario will become a FPS, Halo will get ten more sequels and spinoffs, and Street Fighter will exist without punching, only guns and hadoukens.

I was planning on buying half a million copies of this game because I thought it was going to have a 'cartoony' look. But not anymore...

I really want them to go back to the roots of Serious Sam 1. From all the Serious Sam games, I find the first one to be the most fun, as it really delivers what it said, point and shoot. I always think Serious Sam as Duke Nukem's long lost twin. The cartoony look just doesn't work. More shooting, less maze/backtracking/platforming.

Croteam has a bad habit of getting all graphics-over-gameplay. I'm still pissed that they killed split-screen co-op in SS2 so that they could make the models a little higher-poly---struck me as a terrible misbalancing of resources. I fear they're about to make the same dumb mistake here.

I had two major issues with Serious Sam 2.
1) Stupid use of video: It's one thing to have high poly video. Its another thing to make a video of some guy doing machinima using the exact same engine and models that you're using in the game. If the engine could do the animations and just use audio clips instead of (usually lower resolution) video, that would have knocked a least a CD or two of data from the build and resulted in crisper cut scenes..
2) No inundation: In the first serious sam, I got 50 snarling monsters on the screen at once. In SS2, I got 50 monsters but only 5-10 at a time. The sheer amount of monsters on screen is what made serious sam awesome. especially in co-op mode. Screwing with this made SS2 suck vs SS1.
if they could fix those two points in SS3, the next one will seriously rock.
