Shadow Complex Achievements arrive with a handful of screens, new trailer

Will Shadow Complex be this year's Bionic Commando: Rearmed -- ya know, minus all that direct nostalgia? Between the 2D platforming, arsenal of weapons, huge bosses, and frosted camera lens, it's getting harder and harder for us not to draw the comparison. One thing the new gameplay you see above features that BC:R lacked? Jumping! (Thankfully!)

An Achievement for melee kills (find the whole list after the break) helps to assuage our concerns of, well, not having a robot arm -- though anyone with half a brain knows that third-party human being parts beat out melee weapons every time. Hopefully the extra $5 for Shadow Complex over BC:R means those weapons are really sharp when you check them out on August 19.

LET'S GET PUNCHY: Melee 5 soldiers (15)
BOMBA PUNTER: Punt 20 Bombas (20)
MY HEAD A-SPLODE: Get 50 head shots (20)
MAKE 'EM SCREAM: Get 100 soldiers to scream (20)

I hear it will keep tracking things like Head Shots even after you get the 50 required for the achievement and there will be online leaderboards and what not.

It's not going to be, but I wouldn't complain if it was - the new Bionic Commando is a really fun game, I don't see why people are putting it down.

Because it's the thing to do. Seriously the game received bad sales due to a bad multiplayer demo and negative reviews. But if you give it the chance you'll find a unique swinging combat experience coupled with some awesome music and a terrible plot. It's great!

Looks very good. Also one thing that stood out was the sound effects.

Looking forward to the trial.

I was on the fence about this game, but it looks like it's friggin amazing.

I'm not watching another minute of trailer gameplay until I get the game to keep from getting spoiled.

Will this game have multiplayer?

If you have a PS3, get Crash Commando. It's pretty much a multiplayer version of this with jetpacks. It even goes into 3D aiming mode to fire the turrets - something I wouldn't be surprised if Chair borrowed from the guys that did CC.

I've been going back and forth on getting a 360 recently, and it's all this game's fault! Damn you Shadow Complex, I could have lived without a 360, but now I must shell out an additional couple hundred bucks!

Well, it's either that, or buy it on a friend's 360. I have a feeling this is a must own, though, since Super Metroid is my all time favorite, and I friggin loved Contra and BC:R.

I have Killzone Liberation, it was a good PSP game. As for Gears 2, it looks better than 1, bu from the hour or so that I played, it wasn't a system seller for me. Neither is Banjo-Kazooie. I loved B-K on N64. Shadow Complex is the system seller for me. I want the extra content in Lost Planet Colonies Edition that us PS3 owners can't get. I also get sad during game sales (like the $5 Hollywood Video sale) when there are shelves full of 360 games due to market saturation, and like only a few PS3 games, because people look for every opportunity to save money on them. PS3 games are certainly overpriced and drop less often than 360 titles. So I guess, ironically, saving money is a system seller too haha.

I got a month to think about it beore Shadow Complex comes out. It's either that or iPhone 3GS, cause my first gen iPhone is feeling preeeety slow lately.

I was on the fence about the 360 for a while too (a PS3 owner first), but Mass Effect was the system seller for me. Brilliant game, and now I can't wait for Shadow Complex! Netflix, Braid and a better version of Fallout 3 (compared to PS3) are pluses for me on the 360 as well, among other things.

I'd recommend getting a 360. I haven't enjoyed a console this much since the SNES (the greatest system ever) and NES.

As for Shadow Complex, day 1 buy.

Mass Effect and Braid are both on the PC, and the PS3 is getting the DLC for Fallout, so there will (eventually) be no difference there. It seriously comes down to Shadow Complex, Lost Planet, and probably Gears 2. But do I really need it???? If I can play Shadow Complex at a friends house (hell, he'd probably let me borrow the thing for a week), I already have Lost Planet, are the extras in Colonies worth it, Uncharted 2 will be Gears 2 with a Tomb Raidiana Jones skin... I think I might just wait it out, save my money, and bring some six packs to my buddy's house occasionally. I could use an upgrade to my first gen iPhone, or a few hundred bucks to start my tattoo sleeve.

...but I want one. Hah!

I agree. I was new to achievents when trophies started on PS3, and I quickly found that the trophievements are mostly boring in these games. They should ALL be creative. Stop giving us filler, like separate cheevos for completing each level. How about beating x boss with only y gun? The bomber trophy was awesome. Flower had great trophies too.

Saving Seriously 3.0 for Gears 3 eh?
