From a strictly musical standpoint. I love Pinkerton for its raw production, and just overall rawness. The sheer emotion in every song.

But it's not of the same musical quality as songs that can be found on The Blue Album, Make Believe, or even Maladroit.

Also, Why Bother? is only two minutes long.

now I'm a fan of the band Brand New but Sowing Season is one of the few songs by them I would never want to own in rock band. Dropped the ball on that one activision

Really? I'm a big fan of Brand New, and Sowing Season would be pretty great. Jesus Christ would be a cooler song, though.

Hungry Like the Wolf (Rock Band 2)
2 Minute to Midnight (Rock Band DLC)
Ex-Girlfriend (Rock Band DLC)
They Say (Rock Band DLC)

I wish Guitar Hero & Rock Band would keep the overlap of their songs to a minimum. Hopefully there won't be more than that.

Given the other songs from the unofficial list, there are definitely a lot fewer dud songs than were on World Tour.

I'm actually pretty annoyed at these gameplay changes. Now failure is exactly like Rock Band. Now your individual star power is exactly like Rock Band. What?! Come on, Guitar Hero! Why are you backing down from your original formula so much?! Once you got used to it, it actually turned out to be fun to have that shared pool of star power, especially if one person was having a hard time getting star power of their own. I am utterly disappointed by this video. Way to just clone the other band game. Now there's no difference in gameplay at all!!

"With everything that's happening on-screen, though, spotting these features in action is kind of a game in and of itself. Good luck with that."

Exactly. Even with the featured video all about them, I can't tell what the hell these "new features" are doing, how to do them, or why I should give a damn... about these features, or this game at all.

I'll be spending my money 09.09.09, thanks.

I've decided that these "big" releases are worth the 60 bucks because you get 85 songs with them, however the little titles between with half the songs, are only worth half the money, so will not be buying any of the other ones full price (or even close to full price)

What the fuck are you talking about you sub-normal half wit?!? Letting you bringing back band mates = ZOMG ROCK BAND LOLOLOL!1!!!! these days? And it's funny because RB2 had GH3's Ho/Po system, The Beatles has the pause countdown from WT, and speaking of the Beatles SINGLE BAND GAMES ARE SUCH A NEW CONCEPT HOW DID HARMONIX DO THIS?!

Fuck I don't even care about these games anymore but this is just fucking fanboy ignorance at it's highest.

OldKingCole,

It's not just saving band mates, it's also that each member has individual star power, rather than the star power pool, just like Rock Band. This actually will create a huge difference in game play. And from the looks of it, each person also just collects their own star power, meaning if you personally miss, you won't even get a chance to use star power, unlike in the previous Guitar Hero games when someone could help you. Also, the band's overall meter is apparently missing, so it's sort of unclear at this point when your entire band will fail.

RB fanboys when GH:WT came out: Bawwww, it doesn't have these features that Rock Band has so it's inferior!

RB fanboys about GH5: Bawwww, they added features that Rock Band had to improve the game, they're copying Harmonix!

Can you people ever be pleased?

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. Quick on the claims, guys.

You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think Guitar Hero is trying to differentiate itself from Rock Band. To prove my point, look at all of the "unique" features that were in World Tour. Now, go back and see how many of those were changed in Guitar Hero 5. Yes, individual star power, saving failed band members, and a RB-esque vocal track come to mind.

And @uranutan3 - I can't speak for all Rock Band fans, but I was one of the few who actually requested something UNIQUE come towards Guitar Hero. I didn't want them to just jack all of Rock Band's defying gameplay features. This isn't to say there is absolutely nothing original in Guitar Hero 5 or World Tour for that matter, but saying Guitar Hero is not influenced by Rock Band is completely absurd.

Sheesh.

So, Activision's made Guitar Hero 5 look like Rock Band? I think I'm missing something here. The video had all of these new features that I've seen before.

Honestly, I don't get the comlaining. Sure they put out a lot of games, does that make it not fun? Just don't buy the games that you don't want to buy! And you guys complain "Oh, Guitar Hero did this stupid, they should change it to be more like Rock Band", and when they change it, you complain that they're copying. You just can't win, can you? So let me ask you; what would make Guitar Hero a better game in your opinion?

If they put more time and dedication into Guitar Hero, I would see nothing against it.

I know its tossed a lot out here with people hating on Guitar Hero, but at the place its in I don't think it deserves any more credit than it needs.

Things that would make Guitar Hero better would be to go in a completely different direction. The direction Acti is headed towards is making it more like Rock Band. And while Harmonix is usually the one to add new things in the genre (multiple instruments, constant DLC, Rock Band Network), Activision has barely tried. It seems like a constant game of catch-up for Guitar Hero, and that's what makes it such a huge turn-off. The only "new" I seem coming from the GH camp was GHTunes (which, as we all know, really isn't that great or inspired), the "Challenges" in GH5 (which is a good step in the right direction) and little things here and there such as the timer after pausing. We still need something BIGGER.

Look. I'm not game designer, but if Activision wants to make a good game, they have got to think of something new. Hell, Rock Band is still keeping it somewhat fresh with Rock Band Network, why can't they do something right as well?

I love how the GH news posts on Joystiq are like the daily RB fanboy RAAAAGE meetings.

How 'bout you assholes get both games so you can reap their advantages instead of fighting to the death defending one side? You have nothing to gain from it.

Or better yet, if you insist on being bitter douchebags, keep it between yourselves.

I had GHWT and tried to enjoy it for 6 months but it just came up short, so I sold it. We aren't all speaking from a place of ignorance.I agree that people shouldn't criticize GH for adopting good ideas from RB (or vice versa). That's how the industry evolves.Still, GH has become irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.

If GH5 lets you import songs from WT, Metallica, and Smash Hits, this is a definite buy for me. And this is coming from an avid Rock Band fan whose most recent GH game is GH3.

Yeah, still waiting on reliable confirmation for GHWT tracks carrying over. If they don't, then this may not be such a good purchase. After all, why buy GH5 if those tracks wouldn't carry over to the inevitable GH6?

That would be a major bonus, but considering the piracy implications I don't think it'll happen. Last i heard it was just DLC that was carrying over. This feature would be AWESOME though.
