I hate to break it to everyone, but advertising in games isn't going away. And if you haven't noticed, its going to get worse. Especially now that the Wii has captured a non-traditional gaming market, every Tom, Dick and Harry company is going to start advertising more through video games.

And why wouldn't they? Its becoming a cheap and easy way, there are tools (at least when it comes to games that are connected online) to have measurable results and it targets a younger audience. If you're HP, Dell, Coke, Pepsi, Bell, AT&T, etc. etc. why wouldn't you advertise?

Anyways, now that gaming is this big (especially being compared to the movie industry), you might as well welcome our new advertising overlords or stop playing. Remember, back in the day when you would complain about the 15 min of previews at a movie theatre? And now, there's 15 min of previews, but an additional 15 min in commercials? Gaming is changing guys, the economics are driving it.

And that makes it okay? I've never understood why people just sit around and take it. If you aren't providing me with a free service, you don't get to annoy me with ads.

Look, I enjoy movie trailers, and even SOME commercials. But enough is enough. The price of consoles went up this generation, as did the price of games and accessories. There's no excuse for this.

i'd be okay with this only if the real world money they gave me for listening to the pitch was 100 trillion, cause that is the only way i'd ever want to be bothered by some lame version of tellamarketing

Another enticement for us to follow along saying "yes, please advertise. we'll listen and get paid." Then, once this blows out, we'll just be filled with more spammers.

I pay a subscription for your service. Kindly make it free or fuck off with the ads!
Thanks,

Advertising bots were available in Star Wars Galaxies years and years ago. They were droids crafted by in-game droid engineers and you could use them to advertise your in-game stores and such.
They've certainly not invented anything new here, but I don't expect that'll bother the patent office.

I am not against this. But I do think if there will be ads, then the cost should go down. I wouldn't mind seeing ads if live was free. :-) But giving away some of the DLC for free is a good idea.

The only way to compensate for this would be to rrmove the profanity filters whenever talking to an adbot.

Sooo... Microsoft filed a patent on Home?

I kid, I kid.

Seriously, though, I think the next 360 Update is going to leave it on 24/7, so you can't avoid the ads by turning it off. I think I'm going to start playing my 360 with the WiFi adapter unplugged.

In theory, this doesn't bother me. However, that's because in theory, it'll go like this:

"Do you want to hear about my new movie?"
"Hells no."

However, it depends on if the conversation ENDS THERE. I have a terrible feeling that it won't.
