Need for Speed Nitro boosts into stores Nov. 17
EA is ready to take Need for Speed Nitro out of the garage and onto the road on November 17th. The Wii- and DS-exclusive title is designed to offer "fun and intense competition for every type of gamer." This wouldn't be the first time a more casual approach reinvigorated a franchise.
Nitro, like upcoming scarefest Dead Space Extraction, is part of EA's ongoing effort to establish some big hits on Nintendo's console. Other titles from the test lab, like EA Sports Active and the Tiger Woods 10, have already proven to be quite successful. Let's see if EA can keep up the Wii streak!

NFS: Shift has some promise. It looks beautiful, and it's taking the Sim road this time.

Haven't played NFS since NFS ][SE.

If you still have it and the console to play it why not. Underground 2 was a lot of fun.

It looks like EA is doing what they should with the NFS franchise. Their PS3/360 version looks slick, and the Wii version seems to take advantage of the system (and audience), rather than cramming the other version onto the hardware like previous iterations.
That said, I haven't played one since Underground...the first one... Personally, I think I'll stick with Burnout Paradise a little while longer...

is that a DS screen shot?
i loved hp, and still play hp2 on the cube - this branching into stories and rival stuff has me turned off to the series. i'll admit that i have not played any of those titles - mostly because ea has such a bad habit of taking your money and letting you have crap in return (go further back in time).
i'd like to try a new title, but i really just want to race, with or without cops, with no story - just tournies to earn bells to unlock new cars and tracks - no involved car tweaking - just racing, bumper view.
and i have a wii - and don't want to waggle controls - i want stick and button controls. maybe i should just get one for psp, but what's good?

You WISH it was a DS screenshot.

The DS version looks SO lame. Like a homebrew demo.

I have played the series since Part III. Hot Pursuit.
The series died to me after that game.

Need For Speed II SE on the PC is still the best there is. Cars flying 500 feet up in the air, with imaginative fictional courses and some awesome unlockable cars, all at a blazing speed... isn't that what the series should be? And that game still had some of the best music in the series. Now they have rap, and punk rock. Oh yay.
I'd love an HD version of Need For Speed II SE. Seriously. It would be an amazing game.

My favorite was NFS4: High Stakes on the PS1. I can pretty much safely say this series is never going back to the way things used to be, it would be like dredging up the Titantic and putting back together.
ToadStoolPorridge @ Jul 22nd 2009 11:05AM
I actually dug out my old PS1 from a pile of dust a few weeks ago and found NFS4 resting on top of a game pile. I tried it out and a lot of fun memories game back to me playing that game. I had fun with some of the newer NFS games that cam out about 6-7 years back, but all the ones lately haven't been any good to me.

I'm not terribly interested in the Need for Speed games. In fact, I never was interested in them at all. However, I'm glad to see that EA knows how to make good games for the Wii. They already showed that with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, and Dead Space: Extraction looks like it's coming along nicely. Hopefully, more developers will start to treat the Wii like this in the future, instead of just releasing severely watered-down ports of 360/PS3 games.

As far as I know there is no online component, so count me out. I have Most Wanted for GC and I can play any other NS version that's already been made for Wii/GC. Without online, what does Shift have to offer that previous versions don't?
kilodelta6 @ Jul 23rd 2009 2:53AM
The motion controls are pretty good, so that's what I went for. Shift is way more simulation, if that's what you prefer, but I'm an arcade racer. I'd say this game is aimed at the Wii gamer, not so much all you hardcore NFS commentors. :p Agree that lack of online is a bummer.

Nitro is good to play in PC and PS.
I want to ask you than any version of shift is available for i-pod?
I heard from my friends but not get yet.
