Xbox 360 and DS see significant growth, in spite of industry slowdown

Yeah the ONLY reason......sony fanboys always trying to make excuses for PS3 going off the deep end. Truth of the matter is XBox 360 is a better system overall 9 (not necessarily more powerful, dont bombard me with the specs) but an overall better gaming/entertainment device. With its great online service (even if I have to pay a measly $4 a month) upcoming Dashboard features (Games on Demand, Facebook, Last.FM, Instant 1080 movie streaming, Avatar Awards, Netflix updates etc) its exclusive or timed exclusive DLC, greater selection of games, it clearly offers more bang for the buck and is getting close to the industries coveted "set top box". Not to mention Natal which will transform gaming. We'll see if Sony will stand up against the Xbox even IF it gets a price cut. So all you PS3 fanboys out there, try to come up with some better excuses!

I've never understood fanboys. Is it insecurity that drives them to praise a particular system and decry another? Is it boredom? Hubris? At any rate, it's perhaps the most depressing thing I've ever witnessed.

Sony is getting legitmately owned here. They could've made significant progress if they announced the price cut early. Expect during Fall/Winter a catch up (I assume.)

Facebook and Last.FM is avaliable through the PS3's browser, and more. Only gold users can use that for free I think, so it's really not free. 1080p streaming doesn't mean good image quality, and you need 8mbps internet speed. Xbox Live in terms of online quality, is pretty much the same as PSN - at least in my experience. Avatar awards is like the equivalent of some of the PS Home features that have been around for a while. The only exclusive DLC I can think of is in The Orange Box, and GTA IV, timed DLC is just a matter of waiting which is not a big deal. A lot of the 360 "exclusives" are on the PC, and can be run on pretty much any PC, and even be played with a PS3 or Xbox controller. In reality there are more PS3 exclusives ONLY on the PS3, you just haven't heard of any of them. Project Natal is over hyped and certainly won't transform gaming, besides the PS3 has a vastly improved Wiimote, and Project Natal all in one.

Microsoft just rips people off, and in 3 years time you're likely to spend more than $800(Live, accessories not built in, upgrades) dollars on your Xbox whereas you'll probably spend under $600(HDD upgrade maybe, mic, maybe an extra controller) on your PS3. And in my experience with both systems, beyond games, the PS3 is a much more versatile, open system.

I used to be just like you, along with other people, until I actually opened up my eyes and ears a little bit.

Well, Microsoft apparently made a very timely decision in lowering the cost of their system. Think of all the people that purchased one in the last year or two because of it. Now think of all those people who will stick with the xbox console for years and years to come because of the achievement system. After all the time spent building up their online 'reputation' and stats and achievements, they'll want to hold on to it.

yeah, i consider myself a sony fanboy, and i found everyone of those statements (the irrational ones, not ones from saria or rob or markez) up there retarded. if you have all 3 consoles, you're allowed to say which one you think is better because you own all 3. most fanboys just troll the other consoles just because they can't afford them.

In my post I said NOTHING about Xbox games being better than PS3 games. They both have great exclusives. What I was talking about was the add-on of features to the Xbox to entice some people that would normally not buy an Xbox. I also didnt mention 1 vs 100 which is pretty bad ass!!

Fallout 3 DLC come to mind? Its just now going to be released on PS3 after being out for Xbox for a looooonnnnggg time. Yeah of course the DLC is available for PC, and its usually FREE which poo poos on BOTH consoles, unfortunately everyone doest have $1500-$2500 to drop on a "gaming pc". Even if i did have a gaming PC i'd probably use a Xbox PC controller so it would almost defeat the purpose. I'd rather spend the $800 you are talking about (dont really know where you got that figure) and have a shitload of awesome games. I wont have to spend anymore money on accessories (already have 4 controllers, 60 GB HD which is fine for me, Turtle Beach X3 gaming headset, reg. headset and wireless headset for backup, xbox live camera) so i'm set on accessories until maybe Natal but I wouldnt call that an accessory. I'm not busting on PS3 as a system (its just as good as Xbox graphics wise, blah blah) but as a social networking/entertainment/gaming device the Xbox wins out. With my computer hooked up to my 37 inch HDTV I have the same thing as using a PS3 web browser so that isnt really a selling point for me. So maybe PS3 is better for a gamer that has no interest in socializing, but with my experience playing on XBox Live for the first time with my 360, I could never go back to gaming offline. Also do you think Last.FM will still be available for PS3 once it comes to Xbox? I SERIOUSLY doubt Microsoft will let that happen. It will probably go the way of Hulu.com which was recently blocked from being accessed by PS3 for some strange reason. Also I heard PS Home sucked. There was actually an article here on Joystiq awhile back talking about how only half the PS3 users even use Home. The PS3 may be a good system for SOME people, but obviously through sales the Xbox is a better system for MORE people.

All my friends have 360s and play online on Live. So the 360 is the system i spend more time on, no matter what the specs or cost are.

This is the real problem Sony is creating by not lowering their price... I have both systems, but since my friends who only have one console (and that is most of them) almost all have the 360, I always buy multiplayer games on the 360.

when you are trying to catch up, there is little to no room to go backwards...

So let me try to sort out this mess.

Sony is the better counsel if your willing to jump through hoops but 360 is better as long as your willing to pay for extra's. Irrelevant numbers appear more often then random encounter's. Markez commit is blue. Saria lawl's which sounds like a horrible disease. Sly is a fanboy but isn't. And all the long posts can be summed up to "My dicks bigger than yours!".

Your experience must be pretty limited, then. Although with your vague proclamation of "online quality" (whatever that is supposed to mean), I'm sure you could just come back and pretend you only meant (insert Middling Feature X here).

He is in all likelihood correct, though.
Last year recall that the PS3 was actually beating the 360 in the first half of the year, which lead to much crowing from Sony fanboys.
Then MS dropped the prices on 360s and the 360 gained a likely insurmountable lead over the PS3.
Even if you leave the PS3 stuff out of the equation, the fact is that when you cut the price of a product, there's a reasonable chance that you'll see sales go up, even on a YOY basis.

It's not fanboyism to say that they 360's YOY growth it a result of the price cut. It's common goddamn sense.
