Maybe people wouldn't escape into fantasy if their reality wasn't so bad.

No shit. Doesn't Thailand have bigger fish to fry? Hell, doesn't the rest of the world have more important shit they could be worrying about?

This is precisely why when all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!" We must look down, and whisper "no."
(saw it for the first time today)

jokes aside: well put, WRE.

Had too many s*** I want to justify something(and update some news). BTW I'm new here and I'm half-Thai and live in Thailand for now.

1. Some parents in Thailand would rather caught their children sniffing glue or b0nks than seeing them "addicted (playing)" video games.

2. (unconfirmed, but rumored)The bastard that killed the cab driver got only 12 years sentence in prison. That's weird because the last time I checked the penalty for planned murder is at least 20 years even confessed. All thanks to totally corrupted inside connections.

3. That bastard took math-physics in high school. Very hard to get into, only SMART people get in. That little sh*t knows right from wrong but still he did it. That jerk is bloody evil. Personally I want him dead by firing squad.

You should be happy someone has to do the time anymore in Thailand. If you have just moved there recently, you probably wouldn't know about "Moo Ham", whose road rage ended in him plowing over multiple people. He didn't do any time--didn't even apologized. His mom did apologize though.
A few months later, he plowed over a few more people. Still no jail time.
At least he didn't attempt to blame video games. They just straight up admit that the guy has psychological problem. Why did he keep getting handed a key to a nice new Mercedes, no one will ever know.

But yeah--Authority and parents are so oblivious to technology in Thailand. And it won't improve anytime soon. No one are genuinely interest.

Fact #4 about Thailand for you: People forget REALLY quickly. Even the worst knee jerk reaction will end because people lose interest after a week. Hell, people manage to forget about 2 consecutive coups within 2 weeks after the media stops reporting it!

Thailand is the land of smiles, but also the land of very weird happenings.

The current government exists only because of mob power, not because of any kind of democratic process (they'd never win that way). The most recent coup de tat was welcomed, even though Thailand was trying desperately to get rid of it's "coup every so often" stigma. The English newspaper (not the Post) that supposedly prides itself in being independent is actually very partisan. An extremist political TV channel is protected by the court, while an opposing channel is freely prosecuted and shut down. And... strangest of all, a guy's car was riddled with hundreds of rifle bullets, yet he survived.

So something gaming-related like this is actually not that strange.

Actually, Thailand never try to get rid of coup-every-other-year mentality. We know that democracy doesn't work in our country, and the only thing we can do is to end a gov't in a coup. I wish you can see how marred the gov't was before the coup. At least a few corruption cases (each costing millions of dollars) pop up every week. The gov't got caught red handed, and their response was "wait another 3 years until the end of the election term, then we'll quit".

This is but one of the less knee-jerk reaction on gaming. At least it's better than the "white games" initiative. The push toward locally developed, cultural education game was utter crap. And the gov't just keep trying to say how good they were.

No Thai government has been free of corruption on a rampant and grand scale, the current one included (this has been proven long before, when they were in power). So, to say that the Thai government is corrupt (including the ousted one) is akin to saying that the sky is blue, and this is true for all Thai governments. The difference is that the country was actually going somewhere back then as opposed to the years of the PAD and now. Now, it's been established that as long as you have a mob, you can do anything, including gain power, and do it with impunity (none of the mob have been arrested... they took over the country's airport and ruined the economy for crying out loud). Also, you'll notice that about the only major party not affected by the coup's twisted constitution is the current ruling party. That's what you get from a constitution drafted by committee headed by a closet-case transvestite, and passed by the slightest of margins (most likely because the people wanted it to be over with, rather than wanting the constitution itself). Look at it like this: The TRT party wins landslide victory, gets power. PAD comes in. Coup. TRT dissolved, heads banned from politics. It's back as a new party, wins landslide again. PAD comes back. Party dissolved again (with many other parties), and back again. Wins again. PAD comes back. Finally, so that the PAD, a minority, can be appeased, and so that the country can actually function, the one remaining, undissolved party gains power. So, again, it has nothing to do with the democratic process.
As to the government's incompetence, the Thai meteorological agency recently issued a warning not to use cell phones during thunder storms. Man, don't they watch Mythbusters? Or have an internet connection?

what do they want the kids to do after 8 pm? go watch Thai soap operas? Those Thai TV series are the most mind poisoning things of all time far worse than drugs. I know kids are the future of the country, but trust me Mr. Minister, vdo game is the last of your worries when it comes to the future of Thailand.

Sure is. I'm tired of all this crap revolving around "game addiction". They're acting like the devil has unleashed terror to the world, causing children to do "evil deeds". Bull crap, and I thought we were over all of this.
