screw you monster CABLE!

I agree about hoping they don't do a straight port...I hope they add some polish...
But, being the fan I am of the board game, I will be buying this as soon as it's available!
Moar board gamez plz!!

If I had an iPhone, I'd probably be excited about this. But as is, I can already play Catan on my cellphone, so I'm good. It's not like you really need SUPER POLISHED GRAPHICS for Catan to begin with, I'll accept any ugly Catan you throw at me (though the cell version isn't ugly at all really). I'll still buy the DS version though, because I will gladly have Catan on every platform I own.

I agree with you...to some extent.
I agree that I'll take Catan with whatever graphical fidelity that they choose to make it with, but I like the game so much I want to see it with some polish! It's one of my favorite games and I want it to look nice AND have a great personality.

And of course I want to have it on every platform.
I currently have the board game with two expansions and two player extension addons, the "Das Buch" variant set for the board game, the XBLA game, the PC game, and will be grabbing the DS game when I can find it.
(I'm crazy like that)

I've got the XBLA one, the cell version, the board game with Seafarers and the Fishermen and Great River mini-expansions, and Starfarers. I also play it on Asobrain a lot. More than anything I wish I could get the Das Wasser Des Lebens and Rockman versions, but the first is hella expensive and the second is impossible to find in the States (though if I ever go to Japan that's on my list of things to find). It's such a fantastic game. I just wish they'd release some of the expansions for XBLA. At least the DS one is supposed to have a few expansions, but even still I wish XBLA gave board games just a little bit more love. There's no reason we shouldn't be seeing more expansions for Catan as well as Carcassonne. To be honest I really just hope that more games get ported to consoles, especially games that would benefit from having the computer keep track of the rules for you (I'm looking at you, Agricola).

i am less concerned with graphics and more with playability. i hope they take the time to get the interface smooth as silk. that said i wouldnt mind some nice tile textures. for example, i prefer the old board deseigns to the new one shown in the image above.

also, i am curious how multiplayer will unfold. because playing against an AI would get old fast, its all about playing with friends. and i have some friends far away that I would love to play with. maybe they'll even release the cities and knights add-on down the road, as that is my preferred Catan action.

on a side-note, why have they never released catan for PSN?! if they're targeting (non-iphone) mobile phones for chrissakes you'd think someone could pull out for PSN.

finally, i agree with nomadic0ne, MOAR boarding games plz!

Graphics shmafics. As long as it's clear what's going on and the interface is intuitive then looks don't matter. I hope they don't make it 3d just to justify a higher price. This could make the game more prone to lag and it will eat up battery faster.

An example of this is the menus in the Worms iPhone port. There's all kinds of animations going on during the menu screens, and while it looks good, there's definitely lag when you navigate the options.

Without multiplayer of some sort (WiFi or Bluetooth) this will be useless. If they have either of those options, I'll buy it day 1. Best game ever.

At this rate the iphone version will be out before I am able to locate a copy of the Nintendo DS version. I love the XBLA version, but they never released any of the expansion games for it.

I have the Catan-like game Kolonists on the iphone, but the lack of dice in the game make it play out in a completely different way.
