Next Resident Evil movie will be in 3D, will spawn new film trilogy
Anyone who's seen one of the live-action films based on Capcom's Resident Evil franchise are aware of how in-your-face the movies' terribleness tends to be. However, horror film news site Shock 'Til You Drop recently got a terrifying piece of news from producer Paul W.S. Anderson at San Diego Comic Con -- the next film in the series, titled Resident Evil: Afterlife, will be presented in 3D. We're thrilled about the stereoscopic Jovovichian action -- we're somewhat less enthusiastic about the bump in ticket prices that'll come about to provide the necessary eyewear.
Anderson went on to explain the film would kick off an entirely new trilogy of Resident Evil films, saying he regards it "as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise." We know what you're thinking -- does this mean the films will finally remotely follow the plot of the games? Oh, don't be silly. It's Anderson, man.

I didnt even think there were enough of a success to warrant a 4th movie at all let alone 6
WINterfang @ Jul 24th 2009 11:00PM
Those are good movies, I have saw then all on the theaters, great pop corn films :D.

Didn't care for the first set of RE movies and since these seem to have relatively the same staff as before I doubt I feel much different. The added 3-D definitely does not appeal to me
Solace (Only on PSN) @ Jul 24th 2009 9:05PM
4: Resident Evil the movie would be sweet instead of this crap
Jeff Rebbeck @ Jul 24th 2009 9:07PM
Do any of us really need to movies to follow the plot of the games any more closely than they currently do? Does she really need to be the master of unlocking?
Speaking as someone who has the hots for Milla Jovovich, the film could be about ham sandwiches and I'd still see it.
Cj @ Jul 24th 2009 9:12PM
You call the world turning into a post apocalyptic wasteland closely tied with the game?
Edog Lost @ Jul 24th 2009 9:25PM
I'm going to second this sandwich movie.
Jeff Rebbeck @ Jul 24th 2009 9:26PM
Where in my post do I say that?
More to the point, who cares? They could turn the earth into a giant volleyball, and I'd be happy as long as it was Milla who was spiking it.
Ballistic H @ Jul 24th 2009 9:31PM
Paul Anderson needs to learn from Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen): stay faithful to the source materials!
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jul 24th 2009 9:35PM
milla isnt good looking, hows that for an earth shattering moment?
Edog Lost @ Jul 24th 2009 9:35PM
do you really want to watch someone walk around some police station opening doors and occasionally shooting zombies?
It is a little easier to translate a comic into a film.
Batzarro @ Jul 24th 2009 10:46PM
I've come to a point in my life where I've seen enough naked Jovovich that I frankly don't need anymore. If they'd kept Michelle Rodriguez' character, though, I'd be game for that!
freaparn @ Jul 25th 2009 1:40AM
Michelle Rodriguez always kind of grates on me for some reason... I know she's supposed to be the "tough girl" actress, but she just looks like the "constipated girl" to me. But, that's sort of par for the course in the films she gets, so expectations: met! As for Milla Jovovich, I liked her in the Fifth Element as she didn't speak more than three words I could understand until the last 10 minutes of the film. Otherwise, she's terrible, pencil eraser nipples or no.
The RE movies themselves... I mean I enjoy the games, but the acting and plot has always been thinly veiled window dressing to what that franchise is all about: shootin' zombies in the face. The movies were pretty much true to the games in that respect.
gaddes @ Jul 28th 2009 3:07AM
Vat did you say Sandvich? KILL THEM ALL? HahAhAh, O-K!
Bubbameister33 @ Jul 24th 2009 9:14PM
3-D EVERYTHING!!!!! My looks like its right in front of your face but not really. 3-D EVERYTHING!!!!!
Bubbameister33 @ Jul 24th 2009 9:16PM
*hand. 3-D EVERYTHING!!!!!
Martin Greenberg @ Jul 24th 2009 9:20PM
The first one was so bad it was good. The second was so bad it didn't even have camp value. The third has a couple of good moments but it didn't really amount to anything. People overstate how bad these movies are.
oOWallaceOo @ Jul 24th 2009 9:22PM
You hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability. It is the sound of your failure. Goodbye, Mr. Anderson
Edog Lost @ Jul 24th 2009 9:24PM
I should hate these movies, but I don't.
chispito @ Jul 24th 2009 10:45PM
Same here. I remember having low expectations which were pleasantly exceeded. I never had a desire to play the games, so maybe that's part of my problem.
Blake @ Jul 24th 2009 9:30PM
All I care about is if Milla Jovovich is going to be in it.
She looks so hot in her new movie A Perfect Getaway!

ignfan69 @ Jul 24th 2009 9:29PM
I can't decide which is worse: movies based on games, or games based on movies?
chispito @ Jul 24th 2009 10:50PM
There have been many good games based on movies: Aladdin, Goonies 2, that Riddick one, etc.
There have been no truly good movies based on games.
Foetoid @ Jul 24th 2009 9:32PM
Who cares if it's closely tied with the game or not. I liked the 3 current movies for what they were despite not following the games.
NoughtSoClever @ Jul 24th 2009 10:40PM
Did you like the Mario Bros. movie?
Foetoid @ Jul 25th 2009 1:24AM
No, no i did not, not that abomination.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Jul 25th 2009 9:53AM
Is it bad to say that I thought the Mario bros movie was good. Amazingly cheesy but for what it was, a curiousity. Samantha Mathis looked hot in it as well.
Joel @ Jul 24th 2009 9:35PM
well i enjoyed the first 2, but the third movie was just ridiculously bad.
Saria the Cat @ Jul 24th 2009 9:46PM
I think the last movie is on Netflix instant watch. If you want a laugh and just a good time, I'd check it out. It's one of those movies that are so ridiculously bad, it's enjoyable to watch in the right mindset.
Uncontrol @ Jul 24th 2009 9:51PM
was hoping this meant really good CG rather than BIOVISION
LegendaryRedass @ Jul 24th 2009 9:56PM
I only watch them for Milla. If I didn't already have a life, I would totaly be her stalker.
Spartacus @ Jul 24th 2009 10:02PM
I actually really enjoyed the first film. The other two were trash, but then again, sequels usually are.
Either way, how on earth can this be a "reboot" if they are being filmed just a year or two after the last installment by the same director and with the same actors? Does Anderson know what a reboot is?
Ninbrendo @ Jul 24th 2009 10:07PM
Why does all this remind me of the 3-D movie frenzy of the early eighties?
chris @ Jul 24th 2009 10:28PM
Am I the only one that liked the movies?
Candlejack @ Jul 24th 2009 10:44PM
I quite enjoyed the movies, never having played the games themselves (excluding Arcades). I don't get why people expect their favorite tv/comics/video games to movies to follow the original plot line. I think after the Xmen movies its time we get over it and start appreciating the movies as what they are: Movies. They aren't cannon, they're entertainment for the mainstream.
Batzarro @ Jul 24th 2009 11:09PM
Agreed up to a certain point. In RE's case, the the series as a straight adaptation movie would be an average zombie/assorted monster horror film. Why did it evolve into hyperkinetic action films with clone armies and apocalyptic future's, I'll never know.
chris @ Jul 24th 2009 11:21PM
If you think about it, the story in the movie and game intertwine a good bit. It's exactly what would have happened when the t virus escaped raccoon city. I don't recall anything about a clone army in the game but everything else still stands. Every zombie film is about the end of the world.
WINterfang @ Jul 24th 2009 10:59PM
Mmmm it's like Milla's nipples are coming straight out of the big screen...Me likes.
Bubbameister33 @ Jul 24th 2009 11:17PM
3-D EVERYTHING!!!!!
dagamer43 @ Jul 25th 2009 1:50AM
When you think about it, the Resident Evil trilogy is the ONLY series of movies based on games that has been remotely successful enough that Hollywood has decided to make more movies out of the IP.
N3M3515 @ Jul 25th 2009 3:57AM
OMFG I fucking hate that everything must be in 3d these days. Adding another dimension does not a good movie make.
Also, all the RE movies are equivalent to a 5 gallon bucket filled with painfully shat diarrhea.
Samsung @ Jul 25th 2009 8:04AM
Dog turds are no less dog turds when they're rendered in 3D.
BigWyrm @ Jul 25th 2009 8:28PM
RE1 movie was decent, 2 was horrible, 3 was only slightly better than 2.
Perhaps if the director were to cast someone other than his fiancee for the leading role...
leo @ Jul 25th 2009 1:51PM
Ok why the hate? The trilogy of the live action movies were very good, why do you guys hate on it?
michas_pi @ Jul 25th 2009 6:04PM
I own all of the movies and can't wait for more.
steve @ Jul 25th 2009 7:13PM
Oh for crying out loud. WE DON'T NEED ANY MORE MOVIES IN CRAPPY 3D.
3D was a fad 20 years ago. Screw 3D and go holographic if you want to do something different. 3D is just recycling old technology. Of course Hollywood is really good at recycling old movies and making them worse, so why should this be any different.
Didi @ Aug 8th 2009 8:05PM
Well I LOOVVVEEE the Resident Evil movies and am so bummed that another one isnt gonna be out til next yr! But I'm SUPER excited that there are gonna be more. I was just wondering is Milla is still going to be in them since she's not in the RE5 game. Only Sheva and Chris. Will she continue in the movies? Or is thatwere the trilogy is coming in where they go to Africa?
Didi @ Aug 8th 2009 8:10PM
If people didn't like this movie then why are they at this site commenting on it? hmmmmm OH WELL more are coming out and thats all i care about LOL!!
