Anyone who's seen one of the live-action films based on Capcom's Resident Evil franchise are aware of how in-your-face the movies' terribleness tends to be. However, horror film news site Shock 'Til You Drop recently got a terrifying piece of news from producer Paul W.S. Anderson at San Diego Comic Con -- the next film in the series, titled Resident Evil: Afterlife, will be presented in 3D. We're thrilled about the stereoscopic Jovovichian action -- we're somewhat less enthusiastic about the bump in ticket prices that'll come about to provide the necessary eyewear.
Anderson went on to explain the film would kick off an entirely new trilogy of Resident Evil films, saying he regards it "as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise." We know what you're thinking -- does this mean the films will finally remotely follow the plot of the games? Oh, don't be silly. It's Anderson, man.

I didnt even think there were enough of a success to warrant a 4th movie at all let alone 6

Do any of us really need to movies to follow the plot of the games any more closely than they currently do? Does she really need to be the master of unlocking?
Speaking as someone who has the hots for Milla Jovovich, the film could be about ham sandwiches and I'd still see it.

Paul Anderson needs to learn from Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen): stay faithful to the source materials!

I've come to a point in my life where I've seen enough naked Jovovich that I frankly don't need anymore. If they'd kept Michelle Rodriguez' character, though, I'd be game for that!

Michelle Rodriguez always kind of grates on me for some reason... I know she's supposed to be the "tough girl" actress, but she just looks like the "constipated girl" to me. But, that's sort of par for the course in the films she gets, so expectations: met! As for Milla Jovovich, I liked her in the Fifth Element as she didn't speak more than three words I could understand until the last 10 minutes of the film. Otherwise, she's terrible, pencil eraser nipples or no.
The RE movies themselves... I mean I enjoy the games, but the acting and plot has always been thinly veiled window dressing to what that franchise is all about: shootin' zombies in the face. The movies were pretty much true to the games in that respect.

The first one was so bad it was good. The second was so bad it didn't even have camp value. The third has a couple of good moments but it didn't really amount to anything. People overstate how bad these movies are.

You hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability. It is the sound of your failure. Goodbye, Mr. Anderson

All I care about is if Milla Jovovich is going to be in it.
She looks so hot in her new movie A Perfect Getaway!

I can't decide which is worse: movies based on games, or games based on movies?

I think the last movie is on Netflix instant watch. If you want a laugh and just a good time, I'd check it out. It's one of those movies that are so ridiculously bad, it's enjoyable to watch in the right mindset.

I actually really enjoyed the first film. The other two were trash, but then again, sequels usually are.
Either way, how on earth can this be a "reboot" if they are being filmed just a year or two after the last installment by the same director and with the same actors? Does Anderson know what a reboot is?

I quite enjoyed the movies, never having played the games themselves (excluding Arcades). I don't get why people expect their favorite tv/comics/video games to movies to follow the original plot line. I think after the Xmen movies its time we get over it and start appreciating the movies as what they are: Movies. They aren't cannon, they're entertainment for the mainstream.

Agreed up to a certain point. In RE's case, the the series as a straight adaptation movie would be an average zombie/assorted monster horror film. Why did it evolve into hyperkinetic action films with clone armies and apocalyptic future's, I'll never know.

When you think about it, the Resident Evil trilogy is the ONLY series of movies based on games that has been remotely successful enough that Hollywood has decided to make more movies out of the IP.

OMFG I fucking hate that everything must be in 3d these days. Adding another dimension does not a good movie make.
Also, all the RE movies are equivalent to a 5 gallon bucket filled with painfully shat diarrhea.

RE1 movie was decent, 2 was horrible, 3 was only slightly better than 2.
Perhaps if the director were to cast someone other than his fiancee for the leading role...

Oh for crying out loud. WE DON'T NEED ANY MORE MOVIES IN CRAPPY 3D.
3D was a fad 20 years ago. Screw 3D and go holographic if you want to do something different. 3D is just recycling old technology. Of course Hollywood is really good at recycling old movies and making them worse, so why should this be any different.

Well I LOOVVVEEE the Resident Evil movies and am so bummed that another one isnt gonna be out til next yr! But I'm SUPER excited that there are gonna be more. I was just wondering is Milla is still going to be in them since she's not in the RE5 game. Only Sheva and Chris. Will she continue in the movies? Or is thatwere the trilogy is coming in where they go to Africa?
