Star Wars: The Force Unleashed receiving 'Ultimate Sith Edition,' new missions
LucasArts has announced that the "Ultimate Sith Edition" of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will hit this fall on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac, bringing with it two new levels in the Star Wars Infinity canon. One, set on Tatooine, will see Vader's apprentice hunting down and battling Obi-Wan Kenobi, making a stop at Jabba the Hutt's palace along the way. For the other, which takes place on Hoth, the apprentice has become the master, and -- wearing the Vader-esque armor seen above -- scraps with Luke Skywalker himself.
The Hoth mission will be exclusive to the Ultimate Sith Edition of the game; the Tatooine mission, however, will be offered as paid DLC on PS3 and 360 for owners of the less-than-ultimate original game. Additionally, the new edition will include all previously released DLC for The Force Unleashed on disc, including the Jedi Temple mission and various player skins.
It may seem strange to be launching a second edition of the title (and DLC) nearly a year after it was released, but The Force Unleashed remains the fastest-selling Star Wars game of all time (and has sold move than six million copies to date). Check out the gallery below for more first screens from the Ultimate Sith Edition.

Woops.

Honestly: The Star Wars "Spectacular" at Comic-Con SUCKED!!!
Nothing good was shown..except Battlefront: Elite Squadron...which stars a "clone" with "Jedi Master DNA", named X2. And his 'brother', X1, is with the Empire...so if any of you saw the BATTLEFRONT 3 old footage a few months ago...that soldier fighting that Jedi...YEAH. Thats X1 vs X2.
So expect to play as X2 or X1 in Star Wars: Battlefront 3 for Xb360, PS3, PSP, and DS.
LucasArts: YOU FAIL ME FOR THE LAST TIME.

Sooo, anyone buy the Jedi Temple this week?
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ Jul 25th 2009 1:19AM
I almost did, and I don't even own the game yet. Talk about a bait and switch.
Latin_Trident @ Jul 26th 2009 7:52PM
Holy Crap! I almost bought a used copy but now that this came up, I would rather save up to buy that game! Any word on pricing?
BTW, Thanks for the news Joystiq!

Wait so this game is really coming out for pc??? Which I now regret buying the ps2 version... :[
kacex @ Jul 24th 2009 10:32PM
And the devs did say that it couldnt come out on PC because it was designed specifically for consoles... they're so full of it...

Why the hell do I have to buy the game again to get all the content? That is BOGUS. Just make it DLC and put out the new version of the game for those who don't have it. Such a dirty ploy, and this is coming from someone who LOVES, LOVES, LOVES the game and is a total Star Wars fanboy...
TBG @ Jul 24th 2009 10:15PM
"Hoth mission will be exclusive to the Ultimate Sith Edition of the game"
Thank you LucasArts and GL for screwing over the people that bought your game the first time around.
Why do I even both with this company anymore, their first DLC was crap and now they offer better level addons but want you to buy the game again(mine is still on my shelf).
Screw Off.
Adeese @ Jul 24th 2009 10:24PM
They received accolades for releasing all of their old adventure games on Steam a few weeks ago. This is just their way of bringing balance to the Force. ;)

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, wipe the tears...

early adopters get the benefit of using it months before people who wait for a deal. stop crying.
do you complain that sony, and ms screwed you over because they lowered the price of their sytems since they launched?
protofunc @ Jul 27th 2009 11:50AM
@Razorlution and awyeah
I agree with TBG. I bought the game at $60 on the week of release. You don't ADD content to a game and sell it in a special edition a year AFTER it's been released. I would have loved to play this "Ultimate Sith Edition" but instead i can't. Why? Because i own the game, just not the right version. On top of that, it will most likely be sold at a $40+ price tag. So make me pay $100 for 2 games that are exactly the same with exception to ONE level? No. Shit like this is supposed to be released as DLC.
Now if i were you, i would never attempt to be sarcastic or logical EVER AGAIN.
Zee @ Jul 24th 2009 10:17PM
Deal of the week... It was a trap!
WINterfang @ Jul 24th 2009 11:40PM
hehe references.
VyX @ Jul 24th 2009 10:16PM
So this is being sold full pop? If so, no chance of people that already have the game to get some kind of expansion for cheaper right?
Sinister Rouge @ Jul 24th 2009 10:17PM
Meh. How about releasing another game? Not just a DLC+Game bundle? Fun game, which is why I bought it, but there is no way I'm going to buy it again.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Jul 24th 2009 10:18PM
Glad I didnt buy the original.....I'll give this a rent this fall and then most likely "Keep it" for $15+ cheaper than retail....
Garvey @ Jul 24th 2009 10:20PM
That's bullshit! I bought the game when it first came out a year ago! That means that I'm gonna have to buy it again if I want to play the Hoth mission! Yeah, the "fastest selling Star Wars game of all time" is about to sell more games off of crap like this. I cry foul. That mission should be DLC just like the Tatooine mission. Bah!
deanb @ Jul 24th 2009 10:21PM
So i got Force Unleashed on Pre-order over half a year ago, and for that I get the knowledge that I will never be able to fight Luke Skywalker on Hoth, unlike the folks who couldn't be arsed to pick up this game till it was a year old.
So now not only do you need to pre-order for some exclusive in-game item's but now you need to NOT buy the game for a year for exclusive in0game content. This generation of console gaming is getting more n more f**ked up.
"This deal just keeps on getting worse"
PN04 @ Jul 24th 2009 11:17PM
Yeah I'm not clear on the logic here, for making the game the fastest selling SW game in existance our reward is to be screwed in the ass with a light saber? Explain that please? someone?

So, assuming that you kill Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Tatooine level, how could the Hoth level possibly happen? Luke only joins the Rebellion because he had to take Obi-Wan to Mos Eisley to get a ship to Alderaan. If Obi-Wan is dead, Luke wouldn't ever leave Tatooine.
Not to mention that if the Emperor knew where Obi-Wan is, why didn't he send Vader after him in the original time line?
This game may have sold well, but it wasn't that good of a game. I did play the Wii version, so maybe the 360/PS3 version is better. This is all kind of a let down, really.
Vcize @ Jul 24th 2009 10:26PM
I'm guessing that you don't kill Obi-wan, he probably just runs away after you "beat" him in a fight.
Then again, it looks like with the armor you're wearing there that this assumes the dark ending to the original Force Unleashed, which was not canon anyway.
FreekyWiggle @ Jul 24th 2009 10:53PM
well this would be set after the end of the force unleashed because the rebellion would be formed already and that happens at the end. now, that could only continue after the dark side ending, because with that light side ending, the apprentice is dead, and on the dark side, he still works for vader. and i assume its a continuation of the dark side ending because the apprentice appears to be in re-vamped sith armour that he gets put in after the dark side ending.
which means continuity doesnt matter. the light side ending is the official story of what happened between 3 and 4. the dark side ending was just like an "easter egg", a bit more just for fun. dark side is unofficial. which means that when this carries on after the dark side ending, it is still an unofficial story, so whatever happens doesnt have to tie in with the rest of the film universe.
meaning the emperor could know where obi-wan is and the apprentice could kill him and it wouldnt matter in regards to the film universe

Z0MG!!! TIME PARADOX!!!!!1!!!!
damnreds @ Jul 27th 2009 12:06PM
so does that mean that we actually exist in some alternate timeline where the dark side took over lucas arts and turned them into money-grubbing assholes?
...thats not true! thats impossible!
t_m @ Jul 24th 2009 10:22PM
I don't see the value in releasing sets that will (a) make your existing customers feel agrieved (b) not generate many more sales, as people who were gonna buy it already have it.
If they release ultimate editions they should really give the extra content to existing buyers for free, or almost free.
But in that case, it's still financially stupid.
ImBakinBacon @ Jul 24th 2009 10:24PM
Trophies?
Dan Davis @ Jul 25th 2009 2:38AM
My thoughts EXACTLY!
Even though I have already beaten this game (incl. Jedi Temple DLC), I would totally re-buy it for trophies.
But I'm a whore.
the Sawyer family @ Jul 25th 2009 6:14PM
trophies will be released this fall. read it on ps3trophies.com .
ignfan69 @ Jul 24th 2009 10:26PM
aw shucks, and I just mailed my copy of this awesome game to amazon today to take advantage of their 30 buck bonus offer!
Vcize @ Jul 24th 2009 10:28PM
So it looks like this DLC is assuming the dark side ending of the original game. How do these missions work if you go with the light side ending? That wouldn't make sense for him to have the crazy looking armor attached to him after that ending.
Anyway, I'm jumping on board the "f you guys this should be DLC there's no way I'm buying the whole game again to play 2 levels" train.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 24th 2009 10:29PM
Maybe ill just gamefly it, but return my copy of the original game. Muahahahah! No but seriously, even as someone who literally just spent the last 2 hours reading wookiepedia, this is bullshit. Gives a real sequel and fucking Battlefront 3!
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 24th 2009 10:40PM
dang i really want this hoth mission, but i dont wanna just gamefly id prefer to own it, it but buying it is fucking ridiculous!
whylekat @ Jul 25th 2009 7:08AM
Because you already own it? That's my problem..
andylee92 @ Jul 24th 2009 10:31PM
I know have a full reason to pick it up for the PS3!!!!!!!1
kacex @ Jul 24th 2009 10:34PM
and that is?
That you don't own one?!
Cuz this is coming out for PC and the box too...
TheDrizzle @ Jul 24th 2009 11:15PM
Why would you buy a ps3 to play this game when its coming out for 360 and PC?
TBG @ Jul 24th 2009 10:34PM
This is just more evidence that LucasArts doesn't listen to the fans of their games.
People wanted Kotor 3, they decide to release an mmo just so they can get more money.
They add crapy DLC content to the force unleashed then a year later add better content for $60.
I hope no one buys the ultimate sith edition.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 24th 2009 10:37PM
hey come on, TOR looks awesome
TBG @ Jul 24th 2009 10:45PM
Yes it looks fun but I am not doing the mmo thing again.
I actually want to play a fun a single player star wars game like kotor I and II.
I don't want to have my enjoyment from the game trying to get to max level and best in slot gear just to compete with the rest of the people in the game.
The Dark Wayne @ Jul 24th 2009 10:50PM
it really doesnt look anything like that. In fact if anything, it just seems like KOTOR 3 with Co Op
dragonslayr92 @ Oct 1st 2009 7:28PM
KOTOR Is only liscensed by Lucasarts, Bioware makes the decisions for what happens in THEIR story. plus you are all acting like video game companies don't do things like this all the time... They don't care if it makes you feel violated, they just want your money.
philip @ Oct 2nd 2009 9:38AM
well i personally will buy it, but then im an uber star wars fanboy XD
Adeese @ Jul 24th 2009 10:34PM
Yeah, I know that this isn't cannon - more info at http://www.familygameronline.com/2009/07/star-wars-force-unleashed-ultimate-sith.html.
I suppose Obi-Wan could just run away. Maybe I assumed that you did kill him, because otherwise the whole thing would be pointless? I don't know.
This whole thing just seems like a bad move on the part of LucasArts. They probably wanted to make more money from TFU, but not spend the money (or take the time) to develop a full fledged sequel.
Jay @ Jul 24th 2009 10:35PM
Just so everyone knows, the article says this will be part of the "Infinities" canon. Infinities is a line of comics that is basically a "what if?" In it they have Darth Maul surviving, Luke going Dark Side, all sorts of stuff like that.
So yes, this assumes the Dark Side ending, and it will be "canon" as part of Infinities.
