I didn't notice much difference at all, to be honest. It still took forever to populate my game list.

Wow, not cool at all. I sometimes wait 30 - 40 seconds while playing a game to accept a game invite.

Man, that drives me crazy that they can't make a LOCAL game list populate instantly. I'm sure it's one of the wonderful effects of DRM; checking that you have a license for each game you have (60+ for me).

I'm sure that MS has prioritized loading the Telus commercial on my dash, before actually allocating any bandwidth to the user experience itself.

It takes forever to populate most of my lists, and even twice as long when I'm online and my room mates are running torrents so I think the dude talking about the speed being DRM related is right. Other then that looks good, they cleaned up a couple things that bothered me.

Well now that I have had time to use the dash while playing games I would have to say its much faster. I have yet to get suck in the dash while the game goes on. :)

Avatar Marketplace: the destination for people too stupid to be trusted with their own money.

Could someone remind us why we're paying for XBL Gold, again? Is it so that we can be nickel-and-dimed by Microsoft at every opportunity, from advertisements in "our" Xbox pages to pay-per-themes to trivial DLC to avatars (of all things).

At least now we know why Microsoft want Avatars in games so badly: just another way to sell (digita)l t-shirts.

@womble

just cause youre cheap doesnt mean everyone else is stupid. if the program isnt for you go do what you do and stfu while yer at it.

and if you dont like paying for live go get a ps3; im glad xbl isnt free and i hope tha doesnt change. ever. if you cant spring $60 a year for live you shouldnt have a 360.

@"and if you dont like paying for live go get a ps3; "

I've got a PS3, thanks very much. And a 360, and a Wii.

Saying "if you don't like it, don't buy it" is stupid. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and my opinion is that this kind of commerce only degrades a service that we are already PAYING for.

If you want to spend your money on this crap, go for it. A fool and his money are soon parted, after all. But don't be surprised when MS decide to start charging you for every other bit of XBL usage as well, or when they start showing full-screen ads before you start playing a game, or even during games. And you'll have noone else to blame but your own need to purchase overpriced junk.

I pay for cable television, but I still have commercials on TV! And the shows I watch have product placement in them as well.

If I'm paying for cable service why do I have to pay for Pay Per View movies, HBO, UFC or anything else that's on the service.

How come the cell companies charge $1.99 for a 30 second ringtone that can only be used on 1 device, but Napster sells the complete song for 99 cents and I can put it on pretty much any device I want?

Hmmm...

I agree with womble, every1 who's saying he's cheap or whatever should STFU coz as great as xbox is, microsoft is milking it as much as they can because they know xbox fanboys will buy whatever rubbish they release

at least the wii doesn't charge for their miis

Ummm, I have an avatar on my Xbox and it was free, get your facts straight before you start talking child. And don't even start talking about how the Miis clothes are free, because you only have the option of about 10 colors for the same shirt. So if you're gonna compare Xbox avatars to something, compare it to something that doesn't look like a 4 year olds drawing.

This is America. You're entitled to only what you pay for. Just 'cause you head down to the grocery store and start bitching about why your gallon of regular milk doesn't have chocolate in it doesn't mean the owner of the store has to give it to you. That's just stupid.

If you aren't happy with the service Microsoft provides you, which you were fully aware of when you sign up, write up a formal complaint and send it to Bill "$6 Haircut" Gates. If nothing happens, cancel your service and seek out a provider who will satisfy your needs.

You just came on here and started complaining, bitching, AND moaning about how you aren't being given more than what you paid for. GROW THE F*CK UP!

Nope, I'm looking at my unupdated guide friends list right now. Although, it does seem to be contextual. If you are in a game people can be invited to it says "invite to game". If you are in a party it says "invite to party and game". If you aren't in a game it says "invite to party".

160 MS Points for a Monkey Island eyeball necklace.

Yes, that's right. US$2 for a necklace prop that someone can barely see unless they zoom in on your Avatar.

Please, do not buy this stuff. It just encourages companies like MS in to believing that they can get away with this sort of thing.

This isn't real money. It's Microsoft Points.

*cough*sarcasm*cough*

Seriously, though, I bought a shirt and the giant Q-tip. It was only about 240 Microsoft Points if I remember right, which is $3. Heck, If you won't pay $3 for something, you're pretty cheap. Anything is worth $3.

The only bad thing about this update is the fact that you dont need to buy the content to rate it. I can see it now some of the online forums downrating or highly rating content. They really should require you to buy the game before you can rate it.

i thought you did need to purchase (or at least have played the full game) in order to rate it. if anyone can rate any game the feature is pretty much worthless.

i plan do downvote Tool Human first thing aug 11. and yes, i have the game and it sucks but ill probably play the sequel just to complain and downvote that too..
