Are you sitting down? 'Asteroids' movie has a plot

You know that epic three-hundred page screenplay you've been polishing over the last decade for a film adaptation of Asteroids? Throw it away, because Universal has it nailed down. Speaking to IGN, producer Lornezo di Bonaventura said the upcoming film will focus on two brothers who must have "a seminal experience" to figure out their relationship against a backdrop of rocks in space. Riveting.

Bonaventura -- who will soon help ruin your childhood with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra -- added that his attraction to the Asteroids license was because it promises an action-packed affair with "some guys in spaceships blowing stuff up." Also, he thinks it tells moviegoers "that there's going to be this big thing in space." So, we can only assume that Universal Studios buys movie licenses by scanning a dictionary.

No. Key phrase being "looks like."

The concept design and some of the action choreography look pretty sweet, *on their own.* But it is far from the GI Joe that we know, and of course overall the movie is awful.

I'm not saying it's gonna be the best film of the year or anything, but I think it has some potential. I never watched the cartoon, so the only GI Joe I "know" is the action figures. Therefore I guess I won't be let down by the movie not staying "true" to the source material.

But I guess we'll just have to wait until it actually comes out to pass judgment...

Was it really necessary to get the asteroid license for this movie to happen?

Finally. I've always wondered what the backstory to Asteroids was. What was the triangle spaceship doing in an asteroid field. How did it get there? Who is flying it? Now I must know the story to Burger Time.

Again I must post, whats with the GI Joe reference? GET OVER IT. IT DOESN'T FOLLOW THE PLOT. CRY SOME MORE AND MOVE ON. IT'S A MOVIE, NOT CANNON. IT'S ENTERTAINMENT, NOT A NOVEL.

FFS, people need to stop looking for cannon in video game/tv movies and start looking for entertainment. Retards, all of them.

I think it still is. Especially when "this movie will actually have a PLOT" is worthy of a headline.

Though come to think of it, there are so many movies out there that don't have any plot... they might actually be on to something.

The ever growing interest in game to film adaptations comes, I expect, from various people in the film industry noticing that the game industry has outgrown it and is making more money... money that used to go to the film industry.

If I could say one thing to those people it would be.. "If you want your industry to thrive, GIVE US NEW IDEAS, DAMN IT." Movie studios have been playing it safe for so long, and pumping out the same shit over and over again... Think about it. It's inevitable that interest will wane. Invest in smaller\cheaper projects (not overblown CGI fests) which are more interesting and unusual, and (most importantly) give them the same marketing opportunities as you do the blockbusters, and I promise you, you will find an audience and save your sinking ship.

Although I'm wondering why they are even bothering with a plot. I mean Transformers 2 made millions.

Humanity seems to be getting dumber by the minute.
