Gears of War COG and Locust Armor coming to Xbox Live Avatars
During the Gearsiverse panel at Comic-Con, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski and Ron Fergusson revealed that there will be Gears of War-themed armor of both the COG and Locust variety coming to XBL Avatars soon. One rule that Microsoft imposes on Avatar clothing and models is that they "can't look inhuman," according to Bleszinski. So they pieced together a workaround set of Locust armor that you can check out beyond the break.
Look for these new Avatar upgrades to be available when the next Xbox Live dashboard update becomes available soon. Meanwhile, we're going to scurry out to our preview builds to see if they're already available. Be sure and peep the Locust image, just around the corner.

yet it still looks quite effeminate on these damn avatars!
Wiizer (Fix the Comment System) @ Jul 25th 2009 9:19PM
It's because these avatars stand like they have a VaJayJay...
Longhorn @ Jul 25th 2009 9:25PM
I thought I was the only one that notice they look very homosexually
solarshadows074 @ Jul 25th 2009 9:30PM
these avatar costumes reminds me of little big planet costumes.. hmm..
eat my face @ Jul 25th 2009 9:31PM
^ little big planet gears of war costume pack confir..... *world implodes*
Markez @ Jul 25th 2009 9:39PM
I think they look pretty cool, especially the locust. But if you guys want to say they look gay and effeminate because you can't handle cartoony/cutesy stuff then so be it.
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jul 25th 2009 9:42PM
yeah cause cartoony and cutesy goes real well with gears of war.
eat my face @ Jul 25th 2009 9:43PM
pedojokerbear your my god
Markez @ Jul 25th 2009 9:49PM
Well sure, it's an unavoidable consequence if your going to put an avatar into Gears gear.
pete @ Jul 25th 2009 11:10PM
i wonder if these would look better/more true to the game if you made your avatar as fat as possible and then stuck on the costume
PR0F3TA @ Jul 25th 2009 11:56PM
wow Markez, you sure are defending those avatar clothing lol.
if its any consideration, Home costumes aren't any less better. Lets just hope MS charges decent amount
Regault @ Jul 26th 2009 12:43AM
They're not effeminate because they're cartoony, they're effeminate because they the hips and body language of a woman.
Neuromancer @ Jul 26th 2009 3:10PM
Gotta go with Regault on this one. My wife sighs every time my guy does that thing where he closes his eyes, points up and jumps (after editing avatar). It's not very manly looking.
Dr.House (GT:DiGiTAL SiN254) @ Jul 26th 2009 6:30PM
my avatar doesn't look feminine. That's because I made him after the way I look in real life. In other words I made him tall and fat lol
dylan @ Jul 26th 2009 8:27PM
Maybe it is because the only way there is any junk in those pants is if they are doing the Silence Of The Lambs tuck.
nightspark @ Jul 27th 2009 3:46PM
I'm surprised they didn't put assless chaps on the locust avatar. Microsoft is taking these avatars too far, at least try to make them more manly.
Metal Beard Solid @ Jul 25th 2009 9:13PM
Huh.
WINterfang @ Jul 26th 2009 6:00PM
!
Dr.House (GT:DiGiTAL SiN254) @ Jul 25th 2009 9:17PM
No Locust sniper goggles?!
eat my face @ Jul 25th 2009 9:32PM
lol i love your avatar =]=]=]=]
Dr.House (GT:DiGiTAL SiN254) @ Jul 25th 2009 10:07PM
If i had a nickel every time i heard that.
I'd have 50 cents :)
yolarrydabomb @ Jul 26th 2009 6:53PM
love your avatar....Now 55 cents
Look At This Suit @ Jul 25th 2009 9:18PM
So I have to choose between this and the ODST helmet?
dammit.
Vcize @ Jul 25th 2009 9:47PM
Combining the Carmine body armor with the ODST helmet could be pretty sweet.
Moptimus Slime (The Return of Princess Griffin) @ Jul 25th 2009 10:10PM
until your avatars dies of course
maveric101 @ Jul 25th 2009 11:38PM
lol Carmine is the Kenny of GOW. i've been wondering how they're going to kill of the other two in the last game, unless they rip Saving Private Ryan or something.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 26th 2009 1:32AM
Getting Carmine first day! Fuck Ya!
MetalBLACKFOX @ Jul 25th 2009 9:18PM
now thats what im talking about!!! Gears my number 1 game -halo armor next!!!!
Rhamsey @ Jul 25th 2009 9:25PM
there was already a picture of odst armor like a month ago.
Access Granted @ Jul 25th 2009 9:19PM
No comment...
dAnixx @ Jul 26th 2009 7:08AM
U had to say it, didn't u?
Rhamsey @ Jul 25th 2009 9:24PM
Cool, but i still wont pay for them. and it sucks about microsofts rule, cause i guess that rules out zombie avatar awards for left 4 dead 2.
OnToGloryReturns @ Jul 25th 2009 9:55PM
Don't forget - zombies are human.
Rhamsey @ Jul 25th 2009 10:18PM
people who consider zombies to be humans always end up getting eaten.
BIacked Out @ Jul 25th 2009 9:26PM
Im telling my pals in my Xbox party about this as I type and they're sold already lol
Locust armour looks sick. - The Headpiece obv.
Aero @ Jul 25th 2009 9:27PM
God that Carmine avatar looks awesome.
Please let this be an awardable instead of something you have to buy.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 25th 2009 10:22PM
It should be the reward for getting any of the Seirously achievements.
pibs @ Jul 28th 2009 6:44PM
Knowing MS, it will probably be awarded with an achievement and then paid to unlock.
Double Whammy!
oOWallaceOo @ Jul 25th 2009 9:30PM
Did they mention a lancer prop to go with it ?
Rhamsey @ Jul 25th 2009 9:46PM
in the xna terms and conditions for avatars i could have sworn no guns were allowed to be held by the avatars. perhaps thats only xna indie games rules, but yeah.
goboColossus (LIVE, PSN - gobopop) @ Jul 26th 2009 4:32AM
The XNA rules also say you have to use the entire avatar, can't just have floating heads or Rayman-limbed avatars running around. I think MadBalls did just that, making a character out of your Avatar's head. Definitely only applies to indie games.
goboColossus (LIVE, PSN - gobopop) @ Jul 26th 2009 3:59AM
To add... I'd still guess the No Guns rule applies. Maybe if the gun were strapped to the avatar rather than them holding it in their hands (put it on their back or their thigh). The RC Warthog has a gun on it after all.
[tre the unlucky schoolboy] [blogs at trespeak.tumblr.com] @ Jul 25th 2009 9:32PM
They can't look inhuman? That's a lie. As long as there are trolls on the Internet people will find ways to make Avatars, Home characters and Miis look inhuman.
WiredKnight @ Jul 25th 2009 10:46PM
I believe you on the second two, but show me an xbox avatar that looks inhuman.
Cj @ Jul 25th 2009 9:32PM
Imagine the price of this junk if a stupid remote controlled warthog is 320MP.
K1LLER HORNET @ Jul 25th 2009 9:43PM
That is what i fear.
If it's priced reasonably & sold as a set, then i'll buy them - if its all separate; boots = 80MSP, trousers = 80MSP, body armour = 80MSP, gloves = 50MSP, helmet = 120MSP - then i will not be buying this.
(unless its so incredibly awesome i must have it).
Oh sh*t, there goes my point i was trying to make
K1LLER HORNET @ Jul 25th 2009 9:46PM
Just looked at the hi-res version,
& the armour looks, for the lack of better words,..... far too gay.
Cj @ Jul 25th 2009 9:50PM
So the armor is homosexual?
Spartacus @ Jul 25th 2009 9:58PM
Killer,
Yeah, I agree. The armor communicates more "I'm a twinkle toes at a cosplay party" than "I'm a hard core gaming badass." But I think that's due to the artistic design of the avatars themselves than anything. My guess is MS has limits as to how much "bulk" costumes can add to the thin avatars.
K1LLER HORNET @ Jul 25th 2009 10:04PM
@ Cj
The armour itself isn't, but it makes the avatar look it.
