Gears of War COG and Locust Armor coming to Xbox Live Avatars

During the Gearsiverse panel at Comic-Con, Epic's Cliff Bleszinski and Ron Fergusson revealed that there will be Gears of War-themed armor of both the COG and Locust variety coming to XBL Avatars soon. One rule that Microsoft imposes on Avatar clothing and models is that they "can't look inhuman," according to Bleszinski. So they pieced together a workaround set of Locust armor that you can check out beyond the break.

Look for these new Avatar upgrades to be available when the next Xbox Live dashboard update becomes available soon. Meanwhile, we're going to scurry out to our preview builds to see if they're already available. Be sure and peep the Locust image, just around the corner.

i'd like to petition for more realistic-looking avatars. Or at least anime-style/quality avatars. Or even Game Face-quality faces (maybe with similarly customizable/uploadable digital photos).

And put me down for the "XBox Live Avatars look way too girly" petition too. I'm not a pre-pubescent kid playing video games, I'm an overgrown kid playing video games, damnit!

It's about time Microsoft wake up and realize the potential of avatars. This should have happened already, but at least it's happening. Always thought accessories for Avatar during initial implementation seemed more like an afterthought than a feature.

Would love to see Team Fortress 2 outfits. How about pet pinatas.

Avatar clothing and models "can't look inhuman"??? Uh, half of all games have crap that looks inhuman...they should probably change that dumb policy.

the avatars have to look human regardless of what you put on them. im sure theyll relax those rules at some point but for now its a good idea. avatars = E for everyone

Costumes seem to be priced at 240, which is at least better value than premium themes, and a lot cheaper than other games/systems that do this type of thing.

I will never pay for virtual clothes. I hope everyone enjoys shelling out cash to play dress-up. Fucking Amazing. Make sure and buy your daughter that red igloo on Club Penguin since your burning money anyway.

However, these as an award for achievements/beating a game is community friendly and makes sense.

It's just not the same... Their fingers aren't the size of sausage or their arms the size of sausages.

Earth to you numbskulls on here complaining about how the clothes don't look like Unreal Engine 3 versions: YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT. In any case, don't buy them if you don't like them and if you are still hung up on the "gayness" of your avatar, seek therapy and a brain.

The only outfits I'd pay money for would be Metal Gear Solid 3's camouflage.

I would like the armor only please. Having the helmet makes me feel like a generic, expendable soldier.

"Home looks SOOOOO stupid, why would I want to dress a virtual version of myself up to look like my favorite game character"...... lol

Hopefully this means I'm one step closer to Darth Vader armor for my avatar. :-)

Gee, how many points with this be...800 or 1200! Christ why did they have to **** up a good idea by totally blowing the pricing to hell and back?

Cartoon/cutesy + the blood and gore of Gears makes me laugh.

OK so the costumes are "cutesy" slapped onto slightly effeminate avatars. That really evokes the essence of a game where your primary weapon HAS A CHAINSAW as a bayonet! Why don't they put a furry bunny or something on it too.

Regardless of whether you feel decorating your avatar for money is worth it, it certainly makes no sense to pay for something that doesn't evoke the feel of the game. Now if this was intended as satire or irony then this is well done, but it isn't, so it's a poor implementation.
