Dirt's OK. I prefer to mix it with water to make this thing called mud.

I really liked the demo of the first one but I never bought it since it didn't have support for split-screen. Not even for two players - and Motorstorm 2 is still the only racing game with support for 4 players, right?

Oh, I'm talking about the ps3. I don't know if any xbox360 exclusive racing game has 4-player split-screen, I hope you do, racing games without split-screen are like fighting games without combos.

You are right, not having any splitscreen at all on Burnout PS3 was such a dissapointment - even Grid had no splitscreen. I never realised Motorstorm 2 had 4-player, thats quite an achievement.
And this game should be good, apparently they absorbed the Sega Rally studio when they closed down and they were reportedly a talented bunch of developers, so should be a pretty good game
and dont forget GT5 has WRC (if and when it gets released)

From That preview
The outside of the car looks pretty realistic
but the inside, that driver has the wrists of a chicken!
How can someone so skinny drive a high power car like that on dirt/gravel so perfect?!?!?
I believe he would need atleast a inch of wrist not 0.1 cm

Yeah, I also don't like how unnaturally the driver turns the wheel,
On a side note, race cars don't have power steering.

The steering animation looks awkward and erratic because it's driven by the player's steering input on the control stick.

Oddly enough, the thing that stood out to me the most in those trailers was the sound design. The exhaust notes on the Subby and BMW were excellent, and the turbo spooling was nice as well. The ride noise on the dirt and the echoing in the canyons of the last video were great touches.
I loved the first game and I'm betting I'll love this one even more.

Actually the video reminds me of RallySport Challenge. I loved that game in my old Xbox. The PS3 still needs a good rally game and I hope this will be it. I hope they have improved the car handling compared to the first Dirt.

I think you mean Rallisport Challenge 2. It looked great, was a great game. Dirt isn't nearly as good as RC2. I'm actually playing Dirt right now and replayed RC2 (about the 4th time) 4 months ago.
Dirt just requires too many restarts because the computer cars smack you off the track, especially at the start. I'm playing the "drivers" view (not the following view), and you can't see that some car is about to smack you in the back or rear quarter panel and knock you off course.
Dirt is a slightly better sim, but that's not why I played RC2. It was the best non-sim rally racing game on a console and it still is today. In even looked really good, best of its generation (better than Forza 1 or GT4 for example).

Yes - they called it Rallisport for some reason, one of the games I picked up for the old XBOX. EA owns the company now, and seems like all they are interested in now is churning out Battlefield titles, so unfortunately Rallisport 3 seems unlikely.

Just wondering do you play with a steering wheel or a controller? While heaps superior for shooters, I find the keyboard sucks for racers because your wheels are either straight or at full lock.

If you're hitting a corner at 210mph or close to that what you'll need is a graveyard and a junkyard...

I think that the gameplay in Dirt 2 looks pretty close to the 2006 CGI of Motorstorm. Codemasters do a great job.

Looks good, but i won't be buying it...
I only buy the street racing games...
online play is impossible on closed courses, people play tracks for hours memorizing exactly when to turn and when to shift and stuff like that.
But with street racing, random cars completely throw out any sort of planning you may have had. All you have is speed and reflexes and it becomes a game of skill rather then perfecting a course.

And perfecting and executing a course isn't skill?

Well that shows an almost complete ingnorance of racing and the skill involved. Good job; now go play Burnout or NFS and leave the skill games to us.

How can you call no lifing one track just so you can't be beat every time you play it skill?
With street racing, a person just picking up a controller has a small chance of beating even the most hardcore gamer. Cars can mess you up real bad.
Burnout and NFS both suck...
There is still a course...
More like midnight club: LA, no course so everyone takes random roads to reach the destination.

I believe that's a Subaru Hatch. It has 4 doors. I wish they had a coupe offering.

Really looking forward to this. Dirt and Grid are two of the most underrated games this gen. And arguably two of the best looking.

I agree, they look better and are more fun that the GT series, the Forza series, PGR etc etc. I'm glad they're at least moderately successful, I know I keep buying them.

This game needs to have a really good Season-based gameplay mode to get a buy out of me. Nothing can substitute years of progression and statistics.
I liked the original DiRT, but the crazy pyramid and random championships left me feeling completely detached. Even if I laid it all out on the line and screwed it up there was basically no consequence. Rally racing should be about calculated survival, a balance between the fastest time you can achieve without hurtling off of a cliff.
I remember in my second season of Coin McRae 3.0, during one of my best races I messed up and lost a wheel because of it. Screwed the best part of my season, but the fact that I would return to conquer that run next season made it all worth it.

I played both this and GRiD, and liked GRiD a lot more. I felt like street racing just came more natural and DiRT just didn't hold my interest enough. I drained so many hours into GRiD and beat the very top tier and everything, but barely got past the 3rd race in DiRT before I took it out and played something else. I feel like I should give DiRT 2 a chance because it's lookin' pretty good right now.

I definitely will be buying DiRT 2, but did anyone else notice the sound was off from the actual driver doing the shifting movement in the vehicle? I know this was the same in DiRT 1. Not that big of a deal though.
