Supposedly leaked footage of Avatars playing golf has hit YouTube this week (find it after the break) and some are wondering if it's video of an upcoming golf title featuring the Xbox 360 characters. At E3 2009, Microsoft revealed the casual racing title Joyride -- a free, upcoming XBLA game featuring Avatars -- so it isn't out of the question for Avatars to star in another casual game.
The footage showcases Avatars enjoying a rousing game of golf, but still looks very early in development (if it even is). Perhaps it is an actual upcoming game, but it could also be some an Avatar update to the XBLA title 3D Ultra Minigolf or even some XNA-based genius. Time will tell on this rumor.

If this is a real game, and with luck it is, I would hope they would use the engine (or at the very least, the game play mechanics) from Microsoft's awesome golf sim, Links 2004.
Links 2004 was quite possibly the best golf sim around for a very long time - better than anything EA Sports was putting out until EA made Tiger Woods 2009 last year.
Obviously for a casual game, stuff like the career modes will have to be ditched. However, the play mechanics of Links 2004 is what made it so ace - even well into the next generation. Gone is the traditional 3-tap method of golf games, replaced by the more skill based, not to mention, more fun "true swing" method of the right analog stick (kinda like the bowling mini-game in GTA IV). It's a lot more intuitive than the 3-tap method. Allowing for slices, and spin and everything in a very seamless manner.
The other thing I loved about Links 2004, was the ability to customize and upgrade many aspects of the look and performance of your player and your gear. Obviously, with something like Avatars, customization will be a key game play element.
Throw in some super bright colors, power-ups like Pangya and Hot Shots,16-player multiplay, DLC courses and the occasional online tournament, and I say you have a winner . . . especially if this turns out to be another ad supported, free game like JoyRide.

I'm down for avatar games, more of their integration is a good thing. I also dig simplified golf games like Hot Shots golf, but wow that gameplay, even if in an early alpha stage looks boring. I hope thats just an XNA game.

I have a feel that would be natal related. Just like the wii's golf, minus the controller obviously.

It doesn't look much like '3D Ultra Minigolf', nor 'Golf: Tee It Up' on XBLA. It could be 'Easy Golf' on the Indie Games section, or something completely new.
Either way, I'm looking forward to it.
If they take the whole Joyride approach with this one too, even better...

release this asap microsoft. More avatar games ftw - plus my wife thinks spending $1 on a avatar t-shirt is insane (which it probably is) but i feel i need to prove it has something of a use.

Any one that codes for XNA can use avatars, I would guess this is just a homebrew - don't get too excited :)

Ok..... First Microsoft copies the Mii's from Nintendo and calls them avatars, now they are deciding to copy Wii Sports? I mean i would understand if the golfing was a lot different and it looked different, but it looks just like Wii Sports except the power bar is on the bottom of the screen and the graphics are a tad better. Come on Microsoft, make up your own ideas.

That pic is clearly from Easy Golf, the indie game, with an avatar golfer.

This Can't Be From 3D Mini Golf, Because The Playstyle Is Completely Diff. and All the Levels From That Game Have a Kiddy Theme To It. It Either Has to Be Tiger Woods 10 w. Avatar Support, New XBLA Game or Indie Game.
