Here's a great indicator of how slowly the wheels can occasionally turn. During Top Cow Productions' Comic-Con panel, head of the comic publisher, Marc Silvestri, was finally able to announce that a follow-up to The Darkness (based on the Top Cow IP) was in the works. We're not surprised if the news has a familiar ring to it: The company hinted at a sequel during the 2008 NYCC ... 15 months ago.
In more immediate news, the company announced that the original game would soon be added to the greatest hits value line-up on PS3 and Xbox for $29.99. If you haven't already checked it out, it's an interesting recommendation, if only to prepare yourself for the sequel that may finally be coming.
Update: According to comments made to VG247, original developer Starbreeze will not be returning for the sequel.

OUCH
At least it was interesting, that's more than you can say for most games these days.

I liked the first one not because it was an awesome game (not bad, not great), but because I really like the story and am still working my way through the comics. I'd like to hope they get a little more polish on some of the game mechanics for the second one, namely the usage of the powers. It became too tempting to always use the same powers in the same ways. Also fix the wall-climbing was ridiculously broken and slowed the action a bunch. Fix that. If they take the time and really polish it up, they could have a knockout.

This is cool news, I thought the first game was awesome, was a cool spin on the FPS genre, not just guns and swords but freakin snake spear things that you can skewer people with and throw them around... good fun :D

I don't understand why people complain about lack of an end boss. What, do you want every single video game to be exactly the same? I wonder if these are the same people that complained about the ending to No Country For Old Men.

This is awesome news. I never finished the first game, but what I played I thought was pretty great. So hopefully the sequel will be better.

Mental note: don't try to work and type comments at the same time. It wasn't an awesome game, but a good game. Carry on.

Why is this only in the Xbox section? The game was on the PS3 as well y'know

I was actually looking through some of my unlocked cheevos in various games the other night, and truly the Darkness is full of a bunch of really stupid cheevos.

Anything with Mike Patton in it is an instant win.

''original developer Starbreeze will not be returning for the sequel.'' Max Payne 3, look out- A CHALLENGER APPROACHES.
There is no way other developer can bring back the atmosphere and attitude the game had.

The Darkness was terrible: the story was awful, the powers were laughable, the level design was boring and repetitive and the voice acting was abysmal.
The gun porn load screens were corny and so cliched i muted the tv to avoid them. the game is completely linear and theres no replay value at all IMO..
Darkness isnt even a rent to me, i wouldnt borrow it for free. i cant recommend this game to anyone over 21 that doesnt already love the source material. its that bad..

I am soooo glad I never sell my old games. I'm gonna have to go back and play Darkness again. I loved the first one. I was one of a few good games to have come out for the PS3 at the time. I really enjoyed this game and am looking forward to the sequal. Lets hope it's as good as the first and maybe......just maybe it will be better. I'll get if for sure.

Great game, can't wait. The multiplayer had so much potential had it not been so laggy.

Really, I thought lag was the least of it's problems.

$29.99? Best Buy has had it on clearance for $9 in my area, I bought it for $5 after using my rewards zone coupon two weeks ago.

I rented this on a whim and became totally caught up in it. I never play games like this, but the voice-overs, the settings, the lighting, the realism of the subway... and the characters-- as people have said, the characters in here were really strong. I actually liked that surreal area where you're on that wasteland, in those ditches... it was so different than the rest of the game. I probably only got halfway through, always meant to go back and buy the thing... guess I have no excuse now!

People are aware that this was adapted from a comic book and that's why the story was so good, right?
Posted: Jul 27th 2009 9:51PM (Unverified) said
They changed a whole lot in the adaptation. A WHOLE lot.
