Well, I don't know a thing about it really, but isn't a patch supposed to coincide with the release of this?

No, no new patch this week, there was one a couple weeks ago.

There have been 4 patches now, most of which just make things worse by using all kinds of funky workarounds rather than actually addressing the issues.

(Please excuse my ignorance)

What's broken about Gears 2? I'm assuming the online is somehow nerfed?

(I haven't played it online yet, so - there's where my ignorance comes from. I just haven't heard much in the way of it being broken....that's why I'm asking.)

Gears 2 is and was broken quite a few ways actually. After launch there where tons of glitches that had to be patched. Then there is the whole "two-piece" thing that they patched. The game still gives a huge advantage to host even after 4 patches and then there is the smoke grenade issue where they basally nerfed smoke grenades. Not to mention the weapon balancing issues (out of all the weapons that need tweaking why would they nerf mortar?). So there you have it, all the ways gears 2 is and has been broken.

"Then there is the whole "two-piece" thing that they patched."

See, this is what I'm talking about though. They didn't "fix" two-piecing, they just broke a ton of other things to the point where two-piecing became less useful.

There were several easy ways to fix two-piecing, both of which worked in Gears 1. The easiest way would be to add back the stun when someone gets shot while trying to melee that they had in Gears 1. This way the two-piecer at least is at risk by flailing his arms around.

But instead, what do they do? Remove ALL actions after a roadie run??? WHAT. THE. FUCK. It's screwed up so many other things, and screwed up the pace of the game as well to the point where they just want you to sit back and camp now. I mean, you can't even roadie run up to someone who is down and EXECUTE them with the B button, so people can just charge in and grab the power weapons without having to worry if they get downed.

a simpler fix to 2piecing would be to take out the auto aim from the melee attacks. I don't know why they reward people who don't know how to aim. With every gun in this game, if you press the b button it lines you up with the person you're trying to hit. And if they move, the auto aim continues, and you stay lined up!

If you think it's bad with the shotgun, press b with your chainsaw and have someone run around and watch what happens.

Shame because this is truly one of the best games and not just on the 360. Still I won't be getting the DLC since I'm enjoying BF1943, WipeOut HD &Fury, with Fat Princess coming Thursday and MVC2 coming soon.

MicroShaft is flipping a big fat finger to everyone who already bought the other map packs(2000pts) with their 1200 price on the Dark Corners. They expect loyal customers to shell out 1600 points EXTRA over the folks that waited to buy all the map packs today.

I had been buying my video games up to this point. Maybe that should change and then I can just pay overinflated prices for DLC instead. Azzhats. I wish I had a crystal ball so I could see when MicroShaft was going to release content for a decent price in large packs later on and when they weren't. They are so random on how they treat DLC game content.

It's true there should be either a discount to those who already purchased the maps, or a stnadalone option to buy the most recent DLC. Packaging them all together and selling them at that price is only good for those buying all the maps at that one point. Microsoft or Epic should compromise wit the fanbase of Gears 2, because in the end the game needs its fans more than a quick buck.

Why 2000 pts? The flash back came with the game day one and was free. if you bought a used copy that's on you. so you expect MS to support you, it's loyal fan base when bought the game used?

@KingOfGods: I forgot about that. Thanks for pointing it out. That just means that it is 2800 points for loyal customers and 1600 points for everyone else. 1200 points is better than 1600, but I still think that isn't close to fair. 800 points over would be close to fair, 400 points would be fair, 200 points would be very nice of Microsoft. I don't expect them to be nice, but they should be fair.

@eat my face: Yeah, I got it sooner so that I could get annoyed by all the bugs and glitches in GoW2 and get sick of it sooner. I kept expecting an update to come out that fixed the problems. It was promised but never delivered. For getting it sooner, do you think it is fair to pay almost double the price of people who waited for a pack? If I had been fairly warned that a all-in-one pack was coming out then I would have been able to make an informed decision. Microsoft never let that happen.

@Trey, Dark Corners is stand alone.

Dark Corners = Only new maps + deleted campaign scenario for 1200pts

All Fronts = ALL previous map packs + new maps + deleted campaign scenario for 1600pts

The previous map packs had 3-5 maps for 800pts. Dark Corners has 7 maps and a new campaign scenario for only 400 more points. Do I want to pay 1200pts? No. But they are giving us more content than previous map packs. So it only stands to reason the price is higher.

I'll hook you up with a little info I've managed to gather:

The next IPod is going to be better than the ones currently available.
Cars released in the year 2020 will have more features and get far better gas milage than ones released today
The televisions you see on shelf today, will go down in price.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will probably come out with a GOTY edition months after its initial release that includes the downloadable content.

Hopefully this helps you make some better purchasing decisions

Newsflash for Tor: Stuff gets cheaper the longer it is available.

In case you didn't notice, the actual Gears 2 game itself was available for $29.99 the other day, so it would seem you paid double for the game too. That's the price you pay for getting something early.

In other news, Street Fighter IV, Madword, Fear 2, and more are $19.99 today at Gamestop. I guess you'd like to go give them all a middle finger as well?

Oh yeah, and let's not forget that PS3's used to cost $600 and 360's used to cost $400, I guess they get a big bird flip as well if you bought them at those prices.

And let's not forget about all those GoTY editions, like the upcoming Fallout 3 one that will include the game itself and $50 worth of DLC for just the regular retail price of the original game.

Seriously, do you not understand economics?

Road to Ruin isn't available on its own, it still comes with the Dark Corners pack. If it's a 50-50 price split your are still paying $7.50 for the maps. They should have released Dark Corners maps for 800 and Road to Ruin on its own for 400.
