Listen, we're sure Halo 3: ODST is going to be a fine game, but Bungie's got to get a better pitchman than developer Lars Bakken. When asked by The Guardian about additions to the game, Bakken explained, "Obviously the things that have been brought over would be the weapons, the enemy types – those kinds of things haven't changed. Everything else is completely new: your character's health model, the fact that he doesn't have a motion tracker, he can't dual-wield, he takes damage when he falls off high surfaces, his health doesn't regenerate. All those things were not in Halo 3. That's very different."
... So. It's like the Halo everybody loves, except with the addition of taking things away. It's a shame Bungie's done with Halo after Reach -- we'd love to see them add things to Halo until it's basically just a guy in football pads with a potato gun going against the Covenant.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that Lars Bakken has his own tag? lol

Re: the Lars Bakken tag 'lars-bakken'
Looks more like they're coining a term:
lars-bakken - [lars' bak in] 1. adj - uninformative, even confusing, as in "That was the most lars-bakken comment I've heard today." 2. v - offering no new information, failing to answer the actual question, as in "At the press conference, the mayor spent most of the time lars-bakkin' before excusing himself to go play golf."

It's going to be a rude awakening when all the Halo freaks out there pop ODST in for the first time and they die in the first gunfight after failing to realize they're not a super-soldier anymore.
I can smell the frustration now....
Oh, and does this spell the end of the "Halo-Jump"?

I have to agree. Halo has always been a shooter that favored the "arcade" style rather than realism. If they're really CoD4ing it up (as it seems), there's going to be a huge "omg wtf did bungee doo too mah haloz?" backlash.
Thing is though, I don't think Bungie is that dumb. Yes, it will be more realistic, because of the fact that you're not a "super-soldier" in this game, but I don't think they're going to go with the hyper-realism of CoD4. I fully expect this to play like a tactical arcade game.
I guess I'm expecting a FPS Gears of War.
Also, I'm not sure what this rant was supposed to conclude with, so I'll end it like this: Red Faction Guerilla is amazing.

I love CoD but I will be the first to say its not hyper realistic. its a really good mix between arcade and realism. Kinda like Project Gotham Racing. It looks and feels real but when you compare CoD to games like Ghost Recon and SOCOM you can clearly see they are not as realistic as you thought.

"What has bungie dun to mah haloz!?" was what I said about Halo 2. This sounds like it's going to be more like Halo 1! All my practice at crouching as I landed a jump with be useful again! And the interplay between health and shields I thought was the most brilliant aspect of the original Halo!
This is going to be sweet.

At comic-con the line was around the booth just to try it, and those that got the chance to play it, enjoyed it. I'm not saying there won't be backlash, but I don' think it will be as big as you think.

"Hyper-realism of cod4"
...have you ever played cod4? Infinitely respawning enemies, helicopters that can see and shoot through five solid feet of concrete and will take a full clip from a SAW and keep going.
cod4 has a lot going for it, but I would never tout it as being 'hyper-realistic'

@ all of you people above picking out two words of what I said and tearing it up:
All I meant was that in the comparison of Halo 3 vs. CoD4, CoD for is significantly more realistic than Halo in terms of a headshot will fucking kill you, not lower your glorious Spartan armor for five seconds.
That's it. I chose the wrong words. Sorry to ruin your day.
And yes, anything with the name "Tom Clancy" at the beginning of it is significantly more realistic than CoD4. /obvious.

You have armor in Halo, you don't in CoD4, if you didn't have armor and the head shot didn't kill you then it would be unrealistic, but in the aspects of the game it is very realistic. Want to talk unrealistic look at the melee in Halo, That is unrealistic.

Well of course CoD4 isn't realistic, I know this for a fact because I totally suck at real life, but I make leotards out of peoples fear in CoD4. DUH

Hyper realism? Call of Duty 4? With its regenerating health, perks, radars and all?
The only hyper realistic FPS I've ever played is the Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. Don't get me wrong, Call of Duty is quite fun, it just doesn't approach actual realism by a long shot.

Haven't they just stripped it of what makes the game badass?

actually controlling a regular human might be more fun, strategic, realistic or what ever than controlling a genetically enhanced ten foot tall guy decked out in futuristic motocross gear

I come to this "news blog" for news not reiterated fact. I've been a joystiq reader since the site was created and these not news posts are becoming disgustingly prevalent.

Shhh... If you don't watch it they'll actually make that into paid DLC.

I have a feeling they are selling out for a "COD" style game...In which case I will not be very happy.

It's more of a tactical shooter. Think Rainbow Six meets Halo. Maybe I should be their new pitchman.

How do you "sell out" to another franchise in your genre in which you co-dominate. Looks to me like Halo is trying to simply cover its bases (read: appealing to as many markets as possible to maximize exposure/profit).
Considering this game is truly an expansion pack in nature (with a fancy price tag), I don't see how it represents a marketing or gameplay shift for the entire franchise at all.

no health-regen? really? I guess we're going back to stimpacks now.
and to storm-eagle, did you ever play on legendary? You were pretty much far from a super soldier on that setting.

I like to pretend that my comments traveled back in time and screwed something up, and are thus fading from existence. It brings me joy on those very rare occasions when a down voted comment comes back up again, and I know the little guy put right what once went wrong.

@Kevin
I didn't realize there was a proper English or grammatical way of spelling words with elongated sounds Does that mean I can "oooooooooooh my gooooooood!" and still have it mean "oh my god!"? Does it become "oh my good!"?
