NBA 2K10 Draft Combine coming to PSN and XBLA in September

($5). Players will be able to customize a basketballer, then run them through a number of drills and scenarios in order to boost their stats, which can then be carried over to the core game when it drops in October. We're curious to know what you guys think of 2K's recently announced side-project -- do you think it's an interesting teaser for the main course? Or a minigame that was removed from 2K10 and shamelessly sold separately? We've embedded an easy-to-understand poll after the break to gauge your reaction.

NBA Live is better anyways
Or Is It Alton Brown? @ Jul 28th 2009 2:15PM
Actually, White Men Can't Jump for the Atari Jaguar is the ultimate basketball simulation, though I respect your horribly incorrect opinion.
GiggMan @ Jul 28th 2009 2:17PM
I'm wonder if you had a straight face when you made that statement.....
If so then you're good.
GiggMan @ Jul 28th 2009 2:18PM
That was @gunitsbst by the way
i.c. weiner @ Jul 28th 2009 2:17PM
It looks the same, and considering that nba 2k9 was basically the same thing as 2k8, i'm losing faith in 2k. they aren't introducing anything new, and haven't even made a trailer yet.
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jul 28th 2009 5:21PM
they never make a trailer or release anything this early, and of course draft combine looks the same its a stand alone program.
drdre74 @ Jul 28th 2009 2:20PM
Well this is worthless to me since I play 95% of the time in online mode and this character is only good in your season solo mode. I like to play with the real players and stats. Not some made up stuff.
The1stMJC @ Jul 28th 2009 2:23PM
I lost faith in the 2K franchise after the horrible start 2K9 had from the removal of the 2K cam online and the crap online experience the first 2 weeks.
Jim Halpert DM (XBL) @ Jul 28th 2009 3:12PM
You can use the 2Kcam online.
drdre74 @ Jul 28th 2009 4:12PM
2K cam is in the game. Thats the only way I play now
The1stMJC @ Jul 28th 2009 5:07PM
Yea it is in now but at first it wasn't and they kept saying it wasn't gonna be put in till they caved. They kept saying it was a cheap exploit camera angle. Than after people complained they put it back a month or so later.
Martin @ Jul 28th 2009 2:25PM
I don't play basketball games, so I'm probably not the best to judge, but I like the idea of it. So basically for $5 you can get in some off-season playtime to get ready for the release of the game.
I think fans will like it, but it won't bring new people to the game that weren't already there.
Matt Already Said That @ Jul 28th 2009 3:07PM
That's actually a cool idea - if I played this game. If it was NHL 10 I'd be geeking out about prepping my dude early. Hats off to 2K for thinking about new ways to a.) make money as well as b.) please the fans.
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Jul 28th 2009 2:33PM
Combine+NBA= win. I will play this in a heart beat.
CrashSpyro123 @ Jul 28th 2009 2:39PM
It's pointless.
D @ Jul 28th 2009 3:58PM
It's BS. They add so little every year, they could at least put this in the regular game. They used to have something like this where you could create your own player and then eventually draft him on a team, then they did away with that and still did nothing new.
dice (psn: dicea55) @ Jul 28th 2009 2:58PM
just another case of how companies milk poor saps by getting them to pay extra for features thats should already be included in the game
Bison @ Jul 28th 2009 3:01PM
I am all over this. Basketball is my favorite sport, and NBA 2K9 and the others are my most played games every year.
Plus live sucks
daniel @ Jul 28th 2009 3:20PM
I think it should be included with a preorder that way its still part of your purchase but you dont get it until you preorder the game.
Andy @ Jul 28th 2009 3:25PM
I agree, this should be part of the pre-order freebie. Something like build your own player used to be part of the full game and now they are charging $5 for it? 2K sports is doing it the wrong way and giving the company a bad name. Sure, economy is bad, but this is not a value added bonus that gamers are looking for!
TreyIM @ Jul 28th 2009 6:56PM
Great idea...but Take Two needs the dough after all their losses in recent financial quarters. I don't know if pre-orders count toward their bottomlines, and I really don't think that they do so this won't happen, unfortunately. Would be nice, though.
gunitsbst @ Jul 28th 2009 3:35PM
No seriously I can't stand the 2k series. Shooting sucks, moving sucks, music sucks, mini games suck, menus suck, the only good thing are the announcers. NBA Live all day baby.
HeXeN @ Jul 28th 2009 3:51PM
I pity you.
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Jul 28th 2009 5:22PM
mini-games? wtf are u talking about.
linx-ibarra @ Jul 28th 2009 4:16PM
if somebody does it for soccer ill buy it... by the way, VIVA MEXICO CABRONES mex 5 - 0 usa
JplusG @ Jul 28th 2009 4:33PM
Maybe it will be in the retail game, or you can basically pay $5 to get a taste of it a little bit earlier - kind of like what Lionhead did with the Fable 2 Pub Games?
Wilhelm @ Jul 28th 2009 4:53PM
That's exactly what it is. Good call. The difference is you got the Pub Games free if you pre-ordered Fable 2.
Covenant @ Jul 28th 2009 5:14PM
I smell cheap, easy achievements, much like the EA Fantasy draft games...
develintales667 @ Jul 28th 2009 8:09PM
Most stupid idea ever. So I can now create a player and train so long until he is superman. What is then the point of character creation at all? Just let me make a superman from start and be done with it. If players don't have strength and weaknesses they just mess up the game. Further, training players during the season (and thus having some realistic development) is part of the fun of these modes!
Well I should keep my mouth shut, as I really enjoy the Sony basketball game which got ripped apart in all reviews. If people could even be bothered to review it.
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Jul 28th 2009 9:14PM
It sounds interesting. Probably a must buy for fans of 2k.
