PSA: Xbox 360 Dash Preview invites in the mail [Update]

Update: According to the comments in this story, the Xbox 360 Dashboard Preview has begun to roll out now.

If you were quick enough on the draw to sign up, you may notice an email from Microsoft in your inbox today inviting you into the new Xbox 360 Dashboard Preview. The public preview -- which opened up for selected press and MVPs earlier last week -- is not fully live just yet, but Microsoft is notifying users if they were accepted into the program. Unaware of what to expect when the new dashboard hits this August? Joystiq has a lengthy guide with a plethora of videos to show you the ropes for the "New New Xbox Experience." Those guys are swell.

After trying an installed game & full arcade game a few times with nothing, I tried a trial game.. that sorted it - if that helps anyone

i didnt get a Email or a update so i geuss i didnt get accepted *frown* dose it take a few days or something?

I'm in. Had to start up an arcade game before the update would actually appear and download though. Since it doesn't have games on demand in the preview (which I still don't understand why, what are they hiding?) it's a near-meaningless update to me. The dash is mildly faster but nothing to throw a parade over.

Also, is anyone else having trouble signing into xbox.com? Everytime I hit sign in it takes me to the sign up page. It's frustrating because they've set up a private forum section for the update but I guess you can only see it if you're logged on.

yea I dont see anything major....the "preview" is shit....and I keep getting knocked off of Live as well...

the update actually just rolled out, I had to boot up netflix for the download to start but its there!

i didn't get the e-mail but i just got the update when i turned on my xbox to have some fun in dark corners

Preview update is live for all the people that were invited.

Punked again. I didn't get into the NXE preview super early last year, just the 2 day bonus. And no love this time either. Maybe when the do an early fall update roll out MS will show me some love.

im all about avatar gear, if they got something sweet i gotta get the game just to unlock it..

Being in the UK, I can't use most of the new features... But the dashboard is a lot faster now, the lag seems to have been fixed. Marketplace and friends list loads instantly now.

The ability to rate games is really helpful, I never knew you could do it for DLC too. Spent a good 10 minutes rating all of the Oblivion DLC, etc.

And I know it's quite unpopular here, but I quite like the avatar marketplace. A lot of the items do seem rather expensive, I haven't bothered to buy anything, and it would need to be something really special for me to actually spend money on anything. But it's worth noting that there is quite a few new free items, and things like the ODST and Gears armour aren't available, so there's hope that those are unlockables.

Splosion Man rewards don't seem to be up yet though :(

Did the update download as soon as you signed in? I've had the email from MS but am stuck in work at the mo.

Some people have said they got the email immediatly, others had to try loading up a game. For me, it would't come up until I tried testing the Live connection, that prompted it.

Did anybody who's Silver get in? I don't think that they actually DO send invites to Silver people even though they say that they will.

Silver here too and I was able to score the preview.

Bah! First it said I had 14 mins remaining for the download and now it went back to "estimating time remaining" and just sitting there. Hope it doesn't last all night.

Can't wait to try out the Netflix stuff.

first to say this New New xbox experience is going to stop. When will those corporate will ever learn to stay? Like they try to make us use Vista instead of XP os. Today, Corporation= multiple retards

first stop: avatar marketplace.

omg omg omg omg. theres another avatar color change option; the power tee and the tight tee (ladies wear). theres a couple more tops, new bottoms, 3 new outfits: im in avatar heaven!

the guide is noticeably quicker already; its been dragging recently so its really obvious something is different..

friends list still takes a while to populate. guide hung twice for 20sec tryin to check messages just now..

i cant stay in a party for more than 30sec rightnow.. cant tell if its my internet of the 360, keeps tryin to reconnect tho.

My just auto updated while I was away for a minute. It's Halo T-shirt time.

Of course this would trigger right when I get to work. I got the email just before I walked out the door. I won't be able to check it out until about 1:30am CST.

I have the same issue when it first updated i had the browse but i went back in there and its gone wierd

My Netflix doesn't have the browse movies feature; it just has just the Movie parties. That's not what Joystiq's video showed. Anyone else having the same problem?

A manual eject button is on the dashboard and the clear cache option is a selectable option now. Hopefully we won't have as many people whining about their slow dashboards now.

Actually for those of you who missed it, there is still a sign up for july 31st though now...
So go out there, sign in, and lie your but off to make your system hook up sound unique... They want to make sure that it works with all hook ups, and if you have a unique one you are guaranteed to get in...

Pity the sign up only had room for about 2 routers. I have my internet connection going through about 3. each one acting as a splitter to give internet to the computers running through out the house...

The warthog is "rumored" as a reward for 1k in ODST. (No link possible)

But more power to you and your pixelated warthog that cost you $4...

Why so sad? They knew people wouldn't resist, go figure why they priced the warthog at 320lulpoints

Would anyone actually see the Warthog except me though? I like the tee though.. I doubt I'd get the full 1000pts on ODST, because of Multiplayer achievements.. I just don't have the commitment for those..

I don't think anyone but you will be able to see the Warthog - it's just a dashboard avatar accessory, judging from the vids i've seen.

About getting 1000G in ODST - let me introduce you into a little something called 'boosting' - Just head on over to forums on 360achievements.org & find people just like yourself ready to boost 'X' Game with you :D

I think i'll be getting the crossed swords t-shirt just to show off :D
