My ancestor William whined a lot. He whined so much they kicked him out and sent him to America. Something like that. True story.

People such as nvidiagtx should just save their comments on this issue. National pride and heritage is pretty damn important to some people - especially if it has involved centuries of warfare.

Ireland is a free state Thanks to the brave men and women of Ireland,
We are not part of the UK. The north has its own story and thank God There is (Almost) peace now.
I for one am proud of our Tricolour and the men and women who died so we can have freedom.
EA sort this out please.

This is why I hate the Internet sometimes. You have people like Alabama man over here and this little fuck nugget Silencio who take things way to fucking seriously.

Take a deep breath and relax kiddos.

I realize that when you spent your 15$ on the Xbox Live Arcade title Battlefield 1943, you may have felt ripped off. Instead of receiving a game based on total realism, advanced physics and historic accuracy, you received a watered down version of war. Rest assured my fellow compatriot, EA is taking full responsibility and will provide you with:
1. No new maps.
2. No redone voice acting.
And, 3. It's a fucking game.

Congratulations.

Anyone from Scotland or Wales complaining about all the times they are dropped under the Great Britain flag even though they are individual countries?

.. at least not according to the UN or recognized as such by other countries.

Scotland is not a country of its own either. The UK comprises England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, all of which are known as ’constituent countries’ or ’nations’. Technically, they are not a country.

Its not a rediculous thing to complain about at all. National pride is inside everyone. Being falsely identified is a big issue. Especially after 800 years of oppression and fighting for ones independance. Retarded comment.

If you were falsely identified youd be getting your back up yourself.

Yeh but like most educated scots I am proud to be British and British is my joint nationality with Scottish, nationalism is for unemplyed idiots who don't even know who Nick Clegg or Tavish Scott is, not that I am a Lib Dem supporter, simply I think you should know who these people are to be allowed to vote!

But it is very important that Irish Republicans can identify themselves as that.

ask someone from Wales or Scotland. They aren't states, they aren't counties, they aren't regions, they are countries. Just like England is.

They all existed long before they were bound together under the flag of Great Britain.

You guys are getting confused by the land mass and political autonomy issues being mixed. They are countries but they were annexed by the UK and what powers they have over their home rule (under the queen) could be dissolved by the UK parliament.

@ chowley

so does that mean from now on all games should have Scottish, Welsh and English flags too? If people in Northern Ireland think they're special enough to have the option, then everyone else should too, right?

After all it's exactly the same thing. The north part of Ireland is technically in the UK just like the Wales and Scotland are. Except you don't see the Welsh and Scottish complaining about it even though this happens in every single game.

@Duke: They are countries but they were annexed by the UK and what powers they have over their home rule (under the queen) could be dissolved by the UK parliament.

Umm, no. They weren't annexed by the UK. England (ruled by the Normans) conquered Wales. They also conquered Ireland. Ireland was a separate country, but ruled by the English monarch. Then the monarchies of England (and Wales and Ireland) and Scotland were united by a common heir. At that point they were still separate autonomous countries with a common ruler. Then The act of union combined Scotland, England and Wales into the United Kingdom Of Great Britain, with Ireland as a British territory like parts of the British Empire. Then Ireland was included in the acts of union to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Finally the majority of Ireland gained independence leaving the United Kingdom Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Currently, all of the parts of the UK are "Constituant Countries", which are essentially synonemous to US states, but with a specific national identity from their historical separation. Pollitically they aren't countries but as far as national identity goes they are separate. This is why generally they all have separate sporting teams in international competitions (except for the olympics). You never see a Team Texas or whatever but Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland a have said identity. Northern Ireland is complicated in this respect hense the artical

Well, sorry I didn't give the full history lesson in a quick post, but I really didn't think it was necessary as the end is still the same - they are countries.

@arkweld: Well, maybe they should be complaining.

This is a big deal to a lot of people and even though "it's just a game," it goes beyond that. It has to do with your identity. My parents were born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and came here to the U.S. in 1975. My brother and I were born in the U.S. All four of us consider ourselves Irish, not British, even before the Belfast Agreement.

Good God how many stupid people post on this.

Wikipedia is not a proper encyclopedia. Just because it says something doesn't mean it's true.

Which do you want to believe. Wikipedia or the Scottish Parliament
http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/vli/publicInfo/faq/category2.htm

"The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the full name of the country. Scotland is a kingdom within the United Kingdom (UK), and forms part of Britain (the largest island) and Great Britain (which includes the Scottish islands)."

Scotland, England & Wales are not countries.

Laugh your ass off all you want NitroMikeo. Are you laughing because you're stupid?
