there is a Worms on PSN... and while it's fun, it's scaled down... I'm kinda pissed XBLA is like a full Worms game ahead of PSN. I was looking forward to single player challenges, and if the PSN version even had them, they were not the least bit creative. W2:A mixes it up in the challenges. Multiplayer is fun in Worms of course, but I love the single player too.

Nothing will ever beat the original Worms Armageddon though.

I am a big Worms fan, but I regret buying this one, the controls are cumbersome and even in full zoom the Worms are super tiny, good luck spotting those mines if they are only 3 pixels.

I was really disappointed in the port too, then again, Team 17 has been doing all the wrong things with Worms lately so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cortex Command pop up on iPhone though. Something with a little more focus in that style of gameplay could work great.

Why don't you guys start reviewing the good iPhone games? I'd love it if you guys could have an iPhone channel one day that actually has the man power to keep up with reviews and news regarding new (and good) games on the App Store.

Forget Worms, the iPhone needs a port of Scorched Earth!

Ben,

A few things you might want to add to the review - first of all, in terms of content, it is nowhere near comparable to the recent Worms 2 Armageddon on XBLA, with a huge difference in number of weapons, challenges, and customisability.

Also, Team17 have been listening very attentively to feedback about Worms, and have promised in the next update:

--- Improved control system, especially for jumping and panning

--- Multiplayer support for up to four people via bluetooth or wifi

--- Graphics customisability so that unwanted effects can be toned down a bit on slower iPhones to decrease lag

Maybe do a second review after this update goes live? I'm loving the game at the moment even without the update.

Obie, zoom levels are going to be increased in the next update, along with a bunch of other stuff - check out the list I made below :)

Though I imagine this isn't the last conversation I'll have about this subject, the idea of reviewing a game based on how it was released versus when patches have been added or expansions released is a long running argument. I reviewed the release copy on a perfectly good iPhone 3G. I definitely appreciate that Team 17 are staying vigilant and adding more stuff (as well as updating existing content), which is great, but that doesn't warrant a new review. I hope that makes sense!

Haha you're right, it is definitely a long running arguement, and I suppose it really concerns what counts as a fully finished game. This was clearly a rushed release as the devs had promised the additional features before it even came out, so would the finished, review-worthy game be one with all promised features delivered? (rhetorical)

It's a similar story with DLC - many DLC packs get reviewed independantly of their parent game, sometimes even achieving better reviews - I'm sure if TF2 was reviewed now after all the content packs it would garner much better reviews than its initial release...

I downloaded it for my ipod touch 2nd gen and it runs great! Yeah the controls are a little sketch but not terrible and it'll be addressed in the update. If you're a worms fan and you have a 2nd gen ipod touch I'd say go for it.

And what's with those absurdly accurate enemies in the challenges? Who can judge wind like that?

You review is horrible. The controls, though the take time to get use to, are fine with one or two exceptions. Also you only look at the negative of the game and that is just bad review form. Just because you can't figure out how to double tap doesn't mean you have to take it out on the game. Also, review the game using the 3g and 3gs. On my 3gs there Is no hiccups or slow points. On the 3gs everything runs fine. PC game reviewers don't use 1 year old PC hardware to review crysis. Review with the 3gs as well and give a FULL review and not a biased review leaning towards negativity.
