Capcom is anticipating monstrous sales of its Wii-exclusive Monster Hunter 3 in Japan, having shipped one million units of the game to retailers in advance of its launch there this Saturday. As pointed out in a blog post on the publisher's community site, this makes it the first third-party Wii game in Japan to have an initial run of 1M copies.
Saturday's also a big day for Wii in general, as it's also when Nintendo launches a version of the system with a gloss black finish -- including bundles which will have Monster Hunter 3 as a pack-in. Wow, it's almost as if Nintendo and Capcom planned it that way. The game is slated to hit the US and Europe before next April; Nintendo claims the black Wii won't be leaving Japan.

Games like these you cant just watch videos and "get it". I also didnt get it when the first game came out on PS2 all those years ago. But then I tried the PSP version... over 300 hours of gametime later, I can attest that the game is addicting, especially when you have friends to play with. And I'm not even a social gamer! But nothing beats goin up against a big-ass monster at 4am sittin around a table at IHop with your friends!
Course, this one is on Wii, which might be fun, i guess... Looks like capcom doesnt have to work hard to port it to PSP in the future (if it ever does come out, which it probably will, givin how popular the MH games are on PSP... in japan.)

For me, it's all about the badass armor and weapons.
...that and the crazy tactics you could use against monsters with friends.
...but for me: The badass armor and weapons makes the previous statement obsolete.

Jampirow. You should've added the words "in Japan" to your post.
In Japan, yes there is a monthly fee of 2000 points for 90 days. Thats only about 650-700 points per 30 day period.
As for the USA, nothing has been mentioned yet. However, we do have precedent with the first Monster Hunter for the PS2 when it comes to not having to pay while the Japanese do.

I have to wonder if the monthly fee will effect sales at all.

Worse still than people who correct grammar and usage on blog posts are those who do so incorrectly. Effect can be a verb, just as affect can be a noun. They are similar in definition, but not congruent noun/verb forms.

*facepalm* Are you an English teacher? It was a typo...
I have Monster Hunter for PSP and would be interested in playing a console version, but I wouldn't pay a monthly fee for it.

He meant in Japan. It'll sell more than a million in Japan, what's the point in only shipping a million copies?
And as for the earlier comments, chances are they will charge us. It's easy enough to pay, and Capcom are money grubbing whores, so whoever is getting their hopes up to not be paying a monthly fee, well it'll be interesting to hear what you have to say when it comes here.

Some people have already received their copies and videos are already hitting the internet. I've seen three of them so far. One was using the lance against the Dos Jagii in the arena while the other two were using the Slash Axe and Longsword against the Boruborosu in the arena.

I know this game was HUGE on PSP, but I don't think the Wii audience will be as into it as the head honchos seem to expect. I think this game has too big of a Playstation cult status to achieve that sorta sale figure on any other platform. At least, not right away.

You would be surprised. In Japan whoever doesn't have a Wii will probably buy one for this game alone. In the rest of the world there are millions of customers that would surely lap this up. It didn't even hit a million sales on the PS2 last I remember.
So it will in Japan, maybe not so much in the states and europe, we will have to see.
