Prior to looking into it I wouldn't have figured this, but this explains why Wallace & Gromit as well as Sam & Max held no appeal to me after playing Strong Bad ep.1 on WiiWare. They were all made by Telltale, and are borderline the same boring game. Shame they needed a beloved and old IP to do well. Although I'm sure CSI and their Texas Hold 'em games are great. Yep, I'm being a hater, sorry folks.

I *might* be trying out the Wii one over the next week. I couldn't get into the DS one, as I just don't think I can do a HM on a handheld. So I'll be shacked up in a cabin in a mom & pop resort over the next week + and might try it out after I trade in a handful of games. My lil cousin brings her Wii every year, so I might go the Rune Factory route. I was so addicted to Magical Melody, I just want something that can compare.

The Wii version is really great, if not a little obtuse (who in the town would have an ax? Why, the nun of course!) and annoying (Did we really need the fixed camera? Really?)

The WiiWare version was released a 4 days ago, and the PC version was released since almost a month ago.

Plus, check the Nintendo Shop Channel... the game is at the top sellers.

The WiiWare version is a horribly compressed mess that makes me want my space bucks back.

It's the console, not the game.

It's kind of Nintendo's problem, and I think it's easy to fix.

Yes it's horribly compressed because of the 40MB limit. It's quite a feat to get all that in that limit, but just doubling the limit to 80MB would have improved the audio quality and load times, cause the more you compress something, the more power is needed to decompress it.

But I think NIntendo is stubborn. If I was them, I would limit WiiWare games to at least 100MB simply because I'm positive people who play WiiWare use SD cards.

The shitty thing about this news is that the Wii version is the only one that lets you download the episodic game in actual episodes. I fear that this means we won't be given the opportunity to by games piecemeal in the future, which is unfortunate. I got the Wii version just because I'm strapped for cash atm. I regret it... looks asstastic compared to the gorgeous PC demo I tried.

You have to be smarter than the ordering form. There's a version where you can buy it episode-by-episode, the full season, or the full season plus DVD.

Anybody else get the Wiiware version? I was waiting for it so I could play it my larger TV (as well as wanting to support cool games coming to wiiware). Does it look like crap on the Wii? Should I balk and just get the PC version?

The WiiWare version is compressed down to about 1/4 the size of the PC version. With that comes low-res textures and extremely compressed audio. Beyond that the game is buggy and the framerate is terrible in the beginning and then just horrible the rest of the time.

It should not have been released in this state. The file size being around 50mb is Nintendo's problem but Telltale should be fighting to raise the size cap instead of releasing such a sub-par product. (which costs more on the Wii said and done)

The PC version is just dandy however but then you lose the ability to purchase it episodically. This release is a bit of a cluster.

DO NOT BUY THE WII VERSION IF YOU HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE! I can barely read the text. I swear I spent the 1st 10 mins trying to adjust my TV to make the picture look half way decent - without success.

Apparantly it doesn't run very well at all on the Wii and is horribly compressed. Seems the developers are pretty annoyed about it and even claimed the iPhone is a more powerful system than the Wii.

I read that last night and laughed my ass off. It can't be true though...can it? All I know about the new Iphone, 3gs or w/e. is that it's stronger than psp which is about ps2 quality. So...gamecube quality then?

which is strange because the team that did SBCG4AP didn't really seem to have that much trouble.

Then again, I guess thats sorta like comparing Golden Delicious to Granny Smith

You know, the idea of blaming someone else to divert attention from your failures. But when you stupidly say that the iPhone is more powerful than the Wii, you just make people say, "Oh, I see now why the game compression sucks."

No, the Wii isn't a power console, but we're talking compression, which other games have done well enough with on the Wii.

I downloaded the first episode, and frankly, I think it's unimpressive. The controls can be frustrating at times, and a lot of the "funny" lines are flat. They can't blame that on anyone else, so they focus on the Wii's compression.

Yeah, I can't wait for the 280 comment shit-storm that such a piece of news will bring to Joystiq. Tmac might be on rare form that day (above average quality trolling).

now that ubi was complaining about piracy maybe they could learn something from this....A game that is another chapter of a 20 years old game doing well on the pirate infested p.c.....how is that possible? well, maybe the fact that telltale is worried about quality and ubi is more worried about copy protections has something to do with it....

How much of a God damned tragedy is it that this isn't coming to XBLA and PSN, right? The vast majority of the Wii audience has no appreciation for this. And if it's true about what you guys are saying about it running poorly on that system? Such a fucking waste.

Seriously, ha ha..

Let me also say further that I don't think it's a bad thing Wii owners get to enjoy this - I just wish that Telltale brought it to the other consoles as well.

To be honest, Im surprised they haven't been making a big XBLA push. Maybe its because of reports saying Sam & Max didnt do so great. Who knows, maybe when they get their engines running on PS3, they'll bring over their whole catalog

as for games I want on other platforms, hey LucasArts! I can haz Monkey Island DS?

I woulda been more into Sam & Max had they used the original voice talent from the PC game I loved ages ago.

I actually prefered the new voices for Sam & Max to the originals.

And yeah, I don't think Sam & Max has been doing too well on XBLA, but I think the main problem there is that the games have been available for a very long time on the other systems, the PC ones can be bought for far cheaper on a disc than they can on XBLA.

The fact Monkey Island has done so well on XBLA proves there's an audiance for point & clicks there, they just need to be brought over quicker.

Right, Snowblind. They've just been out so long that there was no buzz about them when they dropped on XBLA.

Now with 4.0+ and added the SDHC support for up to 32GB cards it makes no sense to have such a ridiculously low limit for WiiWare.

I love how Nintendo balances out their industry driving innovation with a stubborn need to be behind on everything else outside of the areas in which they are innovating.
