We see dead people: Mass Effect 2 cover revealed

Mass Effect 2 may not be ready to save the galaxy until next year, but its cover art is all set to sell some pre-orders. The box features what may be Wrex (but, all Krogans look alike. Racist!), what appears to be a sexy version of Ashley (or Miranda Lawson... or Dead Space Girl) and the same dude from the original Mass Effect cover. We have NO IDEA who this guy is! He never appears in the game, but EA and BioWare keep insisting on putting him on the box and in the commercials. Maybe his identity will be revealed in the third installment.

As we all know, Commander Shepard (not present on the cover) is a beautiful black woman with striking green eyes.

It's actually kinda crappy.... I'm surprised.

I'd have to agree with you. It's just....I'm not sure what.

Shephard's gun is smoking and he's running. "Ashley" looks like she's aiming at something, ready to fire. And "Wrex" is like "Whatever". There's no rhyme or reason to what the art is trying to communicate to the buyer. There's obvious a destroy settlement but are they heading into battle? Did they just fight a battle? Or they trying to escape? What is going on?

That is really crappy box art. Better box art would have been a close up of Asari cleavage with "Mass Effect 2" tattooed right above the crevice.

And they would get free publicity from Fox News!

Anything to do with Mass Effect being crappy should come at NO surprise.

This box art looks like the quality of a 3rd or 4th tier game. I'm really disappointed, because it doesn't at all convey what I'm excited about, which is the mature, epic story. Put simply, this box art sucks.

Yes, and all of them just look.... odd. Like the way shepard is running is just not natural looking.

It's far to cartoonish for the subject manner. I mean ME1 was a game with an actual story, with actual adult theme's, this conveys a colorful romping platformer almost (other than the scowl...)

Also, Everyone's Shepard looks different, so they plaster their generic shepard as big as they can on the front.... why not set the cover up in such a way that that he is hidden. For example off the top of my head: A shot of a ruined city, your crew looking toward the city distraught, and the silhouette of shepard emerging from the ruins.

Or go back to implying shepard is dead, like ruins with a human arm hanging out, or like an empty uniform.

Ok, really just anything but this.... thing.

My first thought when seeing this was that it looked like crap. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this.

I kinda like it. it's got a very old school classic kinda vibe to it.

I can't decide if the artwork is stupid or generic. Either way, it's really underwhelming.

Its so... generic. Mass Effect deserves better!

Box Art Fail.

Shepard (or the weird looking dude that looks nothing like my Shepard) is somewhat dis-proportionate I mean his right should looks gigantic.

Yeah, this looks like crap. Seriously. Shepherd looks SO bland and bored. Where's the dynamism? They should have gone for the classic "hero" pose(s) ala Mass Effect 1. Here's hoping the special edition will have a MUCH better cover....

I hope the PC version will also get the special edition as it didn't get the special edition of ME1.

I killed Wrex on that beach in the first game. His attitude was pissing me off something fierce. This makes me one go home and continue with my evil character now.

Here's a question to the masses, will ME2 allow you to choose which save it loads from if you have more than one ME1 save file?

Seriously that's what I want to know! I have 2 playthroughs to get LVL60 achievement for my good character and 1.5 playthroughs for my evil character. Which will it use? The most recent? The most complete? Whichever I choose?

According to the Bioware forums (where the developers regularly post), you will choose which game completed file you want to start your game with, yes.

Jeez, the Xbox 360's cover scheme really clashes with the cover art here. At least the PC and PS3 covers are more neutral.

And I also don't like this cover as much as the 1st game.

I meant that in my opinion, PC and PS3 game covers look better than the 360 covers because of their black neutral color scheme, not the bright green color scheme of 360 game covers. Its not a big deal anyways.

That woman is actually Miranda Lawson, a new squad member in ME2. She was one of the characters in Mass Effect Galaxy.

@ Wet Bandit: Wow, I was going to comment that the woman on the cover looked a lot like Yvonne Strahovski, rather than like Ashley. So I went to look up this Miranda person you were mentioning and find that she's voiced by Strahovski. Pretty much convinces me.

Also, the woman on the cover is significantly bustier than Ashley was ever portrayed.
