I'm starting to get tired of zombies everywhere.
Cheesus(Crust) @ Jul 30th 2009 2:36PM
Well these guys started it so..
Brucie B @ Jul 30th 2009 2:53PM
I'm tired of these Boring Comments, Yawn!
BTW: ZOMBIES ROCK!
MLS @ Jul 30th 2009 3:04PM
I can't decide what is more tiresome, zombies are talking about game sales.
I still like Left 4 Dead but don't care about Dark Void, so I'm gonna go with game sales discussion.
ScottG13 @ Jul 30th 2009 3:26PM
So... don't purchase it?
modified @ Jul 30th 2009 3:35PM
So tired you clicked on the story and made a comment.
Erluti @ Jul 30th 2009 2:36PM
I'm wishing there was a game about killing Nazi zombies. It seems like a much cooler setting than regular zombie killing.
shibathedog @ Jul 30th 2009 2:49PM
You mean kind of like Wolfenstein?
Storm Eagle @ Jul 30th 2009 2:58PM
That's what this game has become Shib.
Erluti @ Jul 30th 2009 4:19PM
I was thinking wolfenstein, but I haven't played it and was under the impression there were a variety of monsters and not just a horde of zombies.
Storm Eagle @ Jul 30th 2009 2:41PM
Music=Good
Game=Stupid
I don't understand, nor like COD5. it's nowhere near as good as, well, any other COD game. And the fact the this game mode even exists within the game makes no sense what-so-ever. It's like they're saying 'We know Left4Dead is a much better multiplayer experience than what our game offers so from now on, all DLC will be zombie-infested."
To the downvoters: I love you all and I just want to share it like they asked on the Podcast.
Mechanical @ Jul 30th 2009 2:47PM
Despite the fact that the similarities between the two games pretty much stop at 4-player co-op mode with zombies? Yes, this is logical. And it's a bonus mode, so quite frankly it doesn't need to make sense. I'd love to see proper campaign expansions delivered for this series, but you and I both know that won't happen. As for it being "nowhere near as good as other COD games", that is a completely subjective matter. Just pointing this stuff out.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 30th 2009 2:50PM
I swear people complain about this game for the most dumb reasons and Left 4 Dead didn't include something like this until this year with the survival patch.
[Insert obligatory if you don't like it why are you posting here comment in this space]
World at War is an excellent game and it included more content than COD:4 I don't understand the hate towards treyarch. What did they took L-cancel and wavedashing out of the game or something? lol
Storm Eagle @ Jul 30th 2009 2:51PM
It's all relative, Mechanical. But it's opinion only, and I'm just stating it. I've played every, and I do mean every, Call of Duty game. And when I think back to the experiences I've had with each, they were significantly more enjoyable than any of the time I've spent with WaW. I can't keep that game in my tray for more than 10 mins. And to be perfectly honest, I only bought it because a lot of my other friends were playing it at the time and nothing else out there interested me. Guess what? They quickly moved back to 4 also.
Or Is It Alton Brown? (Loyal MW2 Sweatshop Employee) @ Jul 30th 2009 2:52PM
You, sir, speak the unvarnished truth.
Storm Eagle @ Jul 30th 2009 2:56PM
Manly, the only reason this game has so much add-on support is because Treyarch has nothing else better to do. They ride on the coat-tails of IW and piggy-back off of whatever they do. The last game they did was QoS and they built that around the CoD4 engine. Before that, (big surprise here) was Spider-Man: WoS. How many times has that game engine been reused? So, as per routine, they have to wait until Modern Warfare 2 comes out so before they can stop supporting WaW and make...I dunno...the next Bond game I guess based on MW2's engine.
offday @ Jul 30th 2009 2:58PM
Wow. So, you're basically complaining about the developer adding new gametypes, and giving us more for our money?
...Yeah. Damn them.
bluetev @ Jul 30th 2009 3:00PM
Well, its got a single-player that you would want to playunlike L4D. And competitive multiplayer. And better graphics. Maybe you would have preferred that they added a few more zombie maps, priced it at a full $60 and and called it Call of Duty 6
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 30th 2009 3:00PM
Honestly I don't know what I could say here maybe you played COD until you literally got sick of it and it could happen.I got sick of chocolate covered raisins,I ate so many of those when I was a kid even looking at them now makes me sick.
As for COD:4 the campaign was great but I wouldn't say is the "best game evar",the campaign stopped showing you cool stuff after 1 shot,1 kill and yes I have all the veteran achievements then again it could be the frustration of playing in veteran that is talking.
(I played it online a bit but honestly I prefer Battlefield and TF2).
Storm Eagle @ Jul 30th 2009 3:02PM
I'm not complaining, I'm criticizing them. There's a difference. It'd be a complaint if I had actually paid for the content and hated what I got. I did win a code for the first zombie pack, and I did hate it. But I can't complain because it was free.
I just think that when you call your game Call of Duty World at War, it should center around soldiers with a sense of duty to their country and themselves fighting a real enemy. Not a group of guys stuck in a bad horror movie.
Mechanical @ Jul 30th 2009 3:05PM
They're already working on their next one, if memory serves. I'm glad to have both dev studios working on the series, they each bring great games to the table. So it uses the same engine, big deal. Lots of stuff uses the U3 engine, lots of games used id's engines, you guys act like it's theft. I just don't get it, really.
Mechanical @ Jul 30th 2009 3:06PM
And Storm, it's a bonus mode, for crying out loud. The main campaign is quite zombie-free. Please stop over-exaggerating.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ Jul 30th 2009 3:08PM
Oh I see you are saying they are a bunch of lazy people for creating an excellent game using an engine based on another engine (There is an Anticrawl post with all the information on it) in less than a year,I see.
Honestly that's stupid. Left 4 Dead uses the source engine should we hate them as well because they didn't created their own engine? What about all the games using Unreal 3? Should we hate them as well?
WTF?
You are hating on a good game for no good reason. If it was something about the MP game or the level desing okay but what you are saying is nonsense.
Storm Eagle @ Jul 30th 2009 3:18PM
All I did was state my open, honest opinion about a game I've spent a respectable amount of time with and the flood gates just opened and this whole thing gets blown way out of whack. Treyarch is a great developer. But when you haven't made an original game since Minority Report in 2002 (which was horrible) and every game since has been a rehashed version of the last, your image tends to become a bit tarnished.
Now I understand that the strings manipulating Treyarch art exactly the most forgiving and I'm sure they've been getting the sure end of the stick on a lot of deals. But they haven't shown me any sign that they can put out an awesome, stand on it's own game since Ultimate Spider-Man.
modified @ Jul 30th 2009 3:32PM
That song is fucking terrible.
Sean @ Jul 30th 2009 3:33PM
The mode was in there as an experiment. Some of their developers made the zombie mode on their free time and then showed it off. The other guys liked it so they added into the game.
To their surprise, it became hugely popular. So they continue to support it.
As for using the same engine that IE uses, I'm sure Activsion ordered them to use the same engine for cost reasons. I'm sure Activsion has IW doing all the engine work for their "realistic" 1st person shooters.
The single player game, I agree, is not as good as COD 4 but not many games rise to that level. My biggest complaints are the up and down difficultly level and not really getting an emotional connection with the main characters. The multiplayer is very good although I do detest the tanks.
JXCgunrunna @ Jul 30th 2009 3:41PM
@storm
Stop being so dumb. W@Ws zombie mode is just an extra. I did not hear you complaining about the cheats that IW added into CoD4 for ragtime.
@ESC
My problem is just as much with treyarch as it is Activision. Im not so naive to believe that Treyarch gets to make what ever they want and that Activision just wants as much money as they can so they push out a new game every year. They problem with Treyarch is that they failed to innovate in the same way that IW does. They cloned CoD4 and added some small details. Back in the day, this would have been called an expantion. look at what gery matter did with CoD1. they added some shit but they didnt make it a full blown game and charge full price. valve does that too(usually). they add shit in but they dont charge full price
Iroquois @ Jul 30th 2009 3:43PM
They did have it centered around soldiers with a sense of duty to their country and themselves fighting a real enemy. It's called campaign mode. You should try it.
Sly @ Jul 30th 2009 5:05PM
zombie mode in COD5 is great with friends. playing it single does suck... and the campaign had some memorable moments and people (like Sgt. Reznov). and the multiplayer is really fun because it's chock full of noobs. going 40-0 on seelow in war? that's great.
Cedric Bixler-Zavala @ Jul 31st 2009 12:26AM
song blows donkey chode btw
NightHawk @ Jul 30th 2009 2:46PM
That video would be true IFt the zombies didnt become juggernauts after a certain wave, then bullets do absolutely nothing
and your left to die...
offday @ Jul 30th 2009 3:42PM
Some might even call it being....Left 4 Dead?
Cody @ Jul 30th 2009 10:38PM
my friend got to 70 solo the other day on shi no numa.
said after 30 he had to just run trap to trap using electric gun occasionally for points.
but he got that fucking big baller trophy! :)
elvor0 @ Jul 30th 2009 2:47PM
Whos the artist please? I'm inclined to say Flyleaf, but Im not sure that's right, and It's not Lacuna Coil.
(if this gets asked before I say it, it's because I was typing it still.)
Mechanical @ Jul 30th 2009 2:55PM
Elena Siegman, same as last time, I believe...
elvor0 @ Jul 30th 2009 3:00PM
Ah hah, thank you, I shall go check out some of her other stuff forthwith. Didnt see the last trailer
NukeAssault @ Jul 30th 2009 3:03PM
Yeah she did the last two songs aswell.
greqo @ Jul 30th 2009 2:48PM
I"m about done with this blast from the past. I'll only sell it if they add some sort of zombies//survival mode in COD: MW2
greqo @ Jul 30th 2009 2:52PM
I forgot to mention that the trailer does look pretty sweet...
mikemaj82 @ Jul 30th 2009 2:56PM
can anyone tell me why all the guns in World at War sound like toys? Very bad sound effects department at Treyarch.
Mechanical @ Jul 30th 2009 2:58PM
Invest in better speakers/headphones? It sounds fine to me...the only weapons that have less bang to them are the subguns, and that makes sense.
offday @ Jul 30th 2009 3:43PM
And when is the last time you heard authentic WWII weapons to compare it too?
snowleopard233 @ Jul 30th 2009 2:56PM
Hey, remember how we put that joke level in our game? Well, it turns out it was the only memorable part of our title because it wasn’t the same boring WWII crap. So, we’re going to take the zombie thing and run with it until everyone’s just as tired of zombies as they are fed up with WWII.
Score!
TC81190 @ Jul 30th 2009 3:08PM
Yep. They've run it into the ground. It was kind of cheesy and fun when it was just a couple of the multiplayer maps broken up into segments, fighting off zombies.
Now they've developed all these lame ass characters, and these over-the-top huge maps and useless traps, it's just stupid now.
Hix @ Jul 30th 2009 3:01PM
Idiots they are not all Russian what is you about joystick and kotaku they don't review this content properly. You would think they would get it right or update there crud.
Lionbacker @ Aug 1st 2009 7:48PM
Wait, what?
TC81190 @ Jul 30th 2009 3:06PM
Activision has successfully ruined Nazi zombies now. The characters are just fucking lame, I cringe every time I'm forced to hear one of the American's awful one liners or the Russian's completely unfunny vodka references.
Couple that with the awful music they've put into the last 2 trailers, and the fact that it just seems like they are trying WAY too hard with this, I'm starting to not care any more.
Iroquois @ Jul 30th 2009 3:12PM
The Emperor has given us a BOUNTY OF AMMO!!!
gaddes @ Jul 30th 2009 3:27PM
ruined? You're making it sound like it was something incredibly sophisticated to begin with. These are ZOMBIES, come on already. There is a certain level of camp that should be expected from things associated with walking dead.
Personally, I like how each player has a personality.. it's a step up from Verruckt where everyone had the same voice and minimal personality.
I do agree about the music, but thankfully aside from it being in an easter egg, it's never really present in the game itself and can easily be avoided.
I have to wonder if you've actually played these new zombie maps, however, or are just simply basing your opinions on the videos. The traps are frankly anything but useless.
Sly @ Jul 30th 2009 5:59PM
did you just insult the russian? he's the best one! the japanese one gets on my nerves, but the rest are decent. i'm happy that they're all back in der riese.
