Toro Station, a semi-interactive newscast running on PlayStation 3s in Japan, is about to hit its landmark 1,000th episode, and Sony has decided to submit the milestone to the Guinness Book of World of Records for most consecutive days of game content distribution. The Japanese-only content is available as Mainichi Issyo (Everyday Together), an application that houses various content including minigames and the long-running news program.
Toro Station stars two cats who humorously deliver news and recommendations to viewers while appearing extremely adorable in the process. Having been available since the day of the PS3 launch in Japan, the content has seen more than 700,000 downloads across the PS3 and PSP, according to Sony. Fake cats and world records? Oh Japan, we love you.

That would be so awesome. I tried Mainichi Issho out for the trophies, but demoed some of the other features and I can see myself playing it every day, if only for the daily news.
Having said that, the chances of this ever coming statetside are zero. What would they give us? Localized Japanese news? Now I must say I'd LOVE having the same thing they get but translated in English, but we all know that won't happen. And I don't give enough of a shit to see these cats tell me about Western stuff I can just read about from my RSS feeds.

The best free thing you will ever download. This game is hilarious and always has features before anything else. In game messaging, in game XMB, custom soundtracks and even trophies were all here first. Everyone should have Mainichi Issyo not just because its funny and makes an awesome TV background at parties, but to taste the bleeding edge of PS3 firmware.

You cant do this anymore. Not long after trophies came out for the game, Sony deactivated the ability to gain the trophies from an non-Japanese account. Trust me, I was pissed when it happened, because I was playing with it for days to get just the third trophy, and when I was damn sure I would have got it, i didnt get the trophy, then i found out why.
Oh well. the games is still fun to mess around with. You can even go to Toro's backyard and decorate i with a racetrack and drive around little RC cars... even invite people to play against!
God i wish this would come to the US! it never will tho.

I'm surprised Sony bothers to get it added since most people don't know what it is because sony refuses to let it release anywhere else besides japan. Sure you can download it if you know how but 99% of people can't read it. I still don't see why sony won't release it somewhere else. I don't think sony would lose that much trying it in other regions, and if it doesn't take off just cancel it and quit updating in other regions. But at least try sony, you never know it mught attract those some casual people that like the style of Miis and stuff.

So they have released 1,000 episodes and only have 700,000 downloads? Is 700 viewers really something they should be proud of? Anywyas, how are newspapers going out of business but digital cat broadcasting is booming?

I wish I'd gotten more of the trophies before they disabled them outside of Japan. It's a cool game/show, very amusing, full of interesting tidbits about Japanese things, for the most part. I don't know if an American equivalent would be quite the same, America isn't as quirky as Japan, in my opinion.

It occurs to me that an English version of the Japanese one would do pretty well outside of Japan, too. I'd certainly watch a little show about Japanese culture every day, especially for trophies.

I guess SONY heard your complaints, because outside JPN trophy support has actually been reinstated for this game, so if you stopped playing it on your non JPN account thinking you couldn't get the rest of the trophies, fire it up again!
It's kind of a fun way to study Japanese, although more often than not most there are plenty of episodes that fly right over my head :P
