The possibilities are endless. For starters, your Avatar could play alongside Kurt Cobain and whisper the encouragement in his ear he so desperately needed, thereby keeping him from taking his own life and changing the very course of history. Or, if you want to keep it simple, an all LeChuck band. The mind boggles.

Here we go.
Now Craptivision is going to try to rake in more bucks by selling plastic peripherals for our avatars as well as clothing for our avatars to wear on stage.
It begins anew....

I'm in the preview for the NXE update and honestly, the avatar marketplace is okay by me. There's some cool stuff in there so far, and the prices aren't incredibly unfair. Plus, having your dude hole a guitar hero controller, if they offered it, would be kind of cool.
Plus, they could also offer one as an Avatar Award for beating GH5 or something. I know people like to hate on the microtransaction stuff, but this kind of thing isn't mandatory or anything like that. I dropped a dollar on a Halo tee for my dude, and I don't regret it. That's less than the coffee I'm drinking right now, you know?

But I didn't. Unlike you who decided to take my post completely out of context. Of course it's a choice, they can't force anyone to spend their money (duh). I just think they only reason they're implementing is to somehow fatten their pockets. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea and my wife will certainly get a kick out of it (she loves dressing up her avatar every other day), but you won't catch me wasting 3 bucks so my avatar can hold a guitar that serves no purpose or anything like that.

both Jerk Face and Hafkie are suckers... because not only do they think its a good idea to drop 2 dollars (or so) on a FAKE plastic guitar but they try to justify it by saying "its optional" in the most cliche sarcastic tone.
well listen up morons. A fake plastic guitar adds nothing to the gameplay.... hell, you dont even pay attention to it WHILE playing the game. So Activision already suckered at least one person which tells me there are million more out there.
sad really

Dear PR0F3T9erXtreme!,
It's optional. That isn't some lame justification, it's pure truthification. It's optional! People like you wouldn't even like it if it were free, and you'd still be bitching and moaning about the fact that you are given the OPTION to use this stuff. Please, stop. It's a pointless argument. Some people like it, so let them like it - You have the option to NEVER use is, so continue not using it.
I myself love my goggled newsboy cap.

The only reason a company that makes games exist is to "fatten the pockets" of the investors and staff. If you couldn't make money making games then all those talented programmers and designers would have to get jobs doing something else so they can feed thier families.
Capitalism works really well. Consumers drive what companies do and how individuals invest thier time. You vote by spending your money. Yes, activision over-indulges in guitar hero titles. But they only do so at the behest of the consumers "voting" for GH sequels by buying the games.

I totally agree with Jerk Face. I have a lot of friends that are against the increasing use of "micro-transactions", but I can't understand why. Some say it's a slippery slope, but to what? If you don't want to buy something, don't. Who's got a gun to your head? It gives everyone more choice, and therefore a better chance to dress your avatar exactly how you want, and to be unique. It's not like they made the avatars nude by default and you HAVE to buy them clothes, is it?
As for this use of avatars in GH5, I think this is great. The more they do this, the better, as long as it remains optional. I'd like to see a fun, arcadey football (soccer) game using avatars like this. I'm sure others would like that too for Tennis, American Football, Ice Hockey etc.

Meh. Steampunkifying my Avatar was worth the few bucks I paid for the virtual clothing. It's pretty much the same thing they already do with Gamer Pics, and like those, the clothing items serve to represent your personality on XBL. Some will find it worth a few bucks, some won't - and that's okay.

The real argument is would these same items be free if no one bought into it. Avatars are boring and I wouldn't mind sprucing him up with a nifty guitar to play or new clothes.. But that's not worth 2-3 dollars to me at all! Considering you can buy a full game for $5, and an avatar outfit can cost more then that... It's a shame really. Only people who get to enjoy this stuff are the ones that blow money.

I think whether or not it's wasted cash is in the eye of the beholder, so here's the way I see it: I could buy an Indie or cheap Arcade game for about the same price as the clothing offerings and I might play it for, at most, a couple of weeks. That's about right for the time I spent playing Clover, anyway. Months down the road after I've long lost interest in playing Clover, my steampunk outfit is still serving its purpose, which is to represent myself online and in the growing number of games that support avatars.

Ok I can buy that. So my question is altered:
do you think these clothes/props are modestly priced?
What erks me is how it's all different. Like they're testing the waters to see who will pay how much for what. A shirt is $1 but a shirt/jacket combo is $2. That's not right to me, it should all be 1 flat rate. Or at least depending on where it goes. Pants $1 hats $.50 outfits $2 ect.

Hey, buddy, I'm not that into Rockstar, okay?
And Activision is a horrible company that runs franchises into the ground, making basically the same game multiple times a year to make a quick buck, and the only time they actually do something new is when they're pretty much forced to by the competition.

I have guitar hero 3, and easy access to guitar hero 2 through my friend. That's all the guitar hero I need. At this point, I have nothing against the concept of the game; hell, I prefer playing guitar hero to Rockband. But I'm not dropping $150 or so for a band kit once for either of them, let alone multiple times in a course of five years.

The only reason Guitar Hero is "best-selling and most popular" is because of kids begging their parents for the most recognized brand name
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with how good of a game it is, to be honest...

It was news to me, as I'm sure it was for many others who don't scour the entire interwebs and subscribe to every mag...
If it ain't news to you, move along then, nothing to see here.

Hehe someone takes video game news a little too seriously.
Besides just because it's called the Official XBox Magazine doesn't mean it's printed by Microsoft or anything.

OXM is pretty much worthless now that you can get demos and videos through Xbox LIVE. It was a godsend on the OG Xbox though.
